Drops Loves You 7).

Merci d'avance. Bon tricot!

Hi, I am planning on using needle size 9 to this sweater and also take a thin thread of melody. My daughters size is normally 134/140. Should be ok to make the smaller size then, 122/128? What is your best guess?
17.07.2024 - 15:31DROPS Design answered:
Dear Anna, the size will depend on your gauge and the necessary final measurements. Please check your gauge with the chosen thread and needle size and adjust the pattern as necessary, as indicated in the following lesson: https://www.garnstudio.com/lesson.php?id=25&cid=19. Take into account that Air is a group C yarn and Melody a group D yarn, so you would also need to calculate the yardage necessary here: https://www.garnstudio.com/lesson.php?id=14&cid=19. Happy knitting!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- RAGLAN: Increase 1 stitch on each side of 2 knitted stitches in each transition between body and sleeves (= 8 stitches increased on round). Increase by making 1 yarn over, which is knitted twisted on the next round to avoid a hole. INCREASE TIP (for sleeves): Start 1 stitch before the marker-thread, make 1 yarn over, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), 1 yarn over. On the next round knit the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes (2 increased stitches). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The neck and yoke are worked in the round, with short circular needle/double pointed needles, top down. The yoke is divided for body and sleeves and the body continued in the round with circular needle. The sleeves are worked in the round with short circular needle/double pointed needles. NECK: Cast on 54-54-58-62-64-68 stitches with short circular needle/double pointed needles size 5.5 mm and DROPS Air. Change to short circular needle/double pointed needles size 4.5 mm. Knit 1 round, then work rib in the round (knit 1, purl 1) for 3 cm. Knit 1 round and increase 6-6-6-6-8-16 stitches evenly spaced = 60-60-64-68-72-84 stitches. YOKE: Insert 1 marker; the yoke is measured from here. Insert 4 marker-threads (without working the stitches) as follows: Insert 1 marker-thread at the beginning of the round (between sleeve and back piece), 1 marker-thread after 21-21-23-25-25-31 stitches (back piece), 1 marker-thread after 9-9-9-9-11-11 more stitches (sleeve), 1 marker-thread after 21-21-23-25-25-31 more stitches (front piece), there are 9-9-9-9-11-11 stitches left on the round (sleeve). Change to short circular needle/double pointed needles size 5.5 mm. Start by the first marker-thread and work as follows: Knit 1, make 1 yarn over, knit 19-19-21-23-23-29 (back piece), 1 yarn over, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), 1 yarn over, knit 7-7-7-7-9-9 (sleeve), 1 yarn over, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), 1 yarn over, knit 19-19-21-23-23-29 (front piece), 1 yarn over, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), 1 yarn over, knit 7-7-7-7-9-9 (sleeve), 1 yarn over, knit 1. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! The first increase for RAGLAN – read description above, is finished (= 8 increased stitches on the round). Continue with stocking stitch and increase for raglan every 2nd round a total of 13-14-15-16-17-17 times (including the first increase described above). After the final increase there are 164-172-184-196-208-220 stitches. Continue working without further increases until the yoke measures 14-15-16-17-18-19 cm from the marker. Now divide for the body and sleeves: Start 1 stitch before the first marker-thread: Knit 49-51-55-59-61-67 (back piece), place the next 33-35-37-39-43-43 stitches on a thread (sleeve), cast on 4-4-4-6-6-6 stitches (in side under sleeve), knit 49-51-55-59-61-67 (front piece), place the next 33-35-37-39-43-43 stitches on a thread (sleeve), cast on 4-4-4-6-6-6 stitches (in side under sleeve). The body and sleeves are finished separately. The piece is now measured from here. BODY: = 106-110-118-130-134-146 stitches. Continue in the round with stocking stitch for a further 12-14-17-20-23-26 cm. Knit 1 round and increase 8-10-10-10-10-10 stitches evenly spaced = 114-120-128-140-144-156 stitches. Change to short circular needle/double pointed needles size 4.5 mm. Work rib (knit 1, purl 1) for 4 cm. Loosely cast off in rib – to avoid the edge being tight, you can cast off with the needle size 5.5 mm. The jumper measures approx. 33-36-40-44-48-52 cm from the shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 33-35-37-39-43-43 stitches from the thread on one side of the piece on short circular needle/double pointed needles size 5.5 mm and knit up 1 stitch in each of the stitches cast on under the sleeve = 37-39-41-45-49-49 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the new stitches under the sleeve. Start at the marker-thread and continue stocking stitch in the round. When the sleeve measures 2 cm, increase 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread – read INCREASE TIP. Increase like this every 2-2½-3-4-5-6 cm a total of 8-8-8-7-6-6 times = 53-55-57-59-61-61 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 18-22-26-30-34-38 cm from the division. Knit 1 round and decrease 1-3-1-3-1-1 stitch = 52-52-56-56-60-60 stitches. Work 1 round where you knit all stitches together 2 and 2 = 26-26-28-28-30-30 stitches. Change to double pointed needles size 4.5 mm and work rib (knit 1, purl 1) for 3 cm. Loosely cast off with rib – to avoid the edge being tight, you can cast off with the needle size 5.5 mm. The sleeve measures approx. 21-25-29-33-37-41 cm from the division. Work the other sleeve in the same way. |
