I'm interested in making the Raspberry Sunset 89-1 sweater in the colours shown. I see the Vivaldi yarn is discontinued but I can probably find a suitable colour substitution in Kids Silk. The trouble I'm having is none of the Muskat colours they recommend are shown so I'm not exactly sure what the colours look like. Can you recommend a yarn/colour I can susbstitute for each colour?
11.02.2025 - 14:22DROPS Design answered:
Dear Kelly, firstly, DROPS Vivaldi was a group C yarn, so you can replace it with 1 thread of DROPS Brushed Alpaca Silk. For example, you can use 15 cerise instead of Vivaldi cerise, red as raspberry and yellow or curry for yellow-green. These Muskat colours have been discontinued- For Muskat you could use bordeaux, pomegranate, pink panther and lilac, for example. We recommend, if you can, that you visit your local DROPS Store, to see all the colours together and see if they match or if you would prefer a different combination. Happy knitting!

Knitting tension: Remember needle size is only a guide. 13 stitches x 17 rows with 1 strand of each quality, needle size 7 mm and stocking stitch = 10 x 10 cm. Rib-1: * K3, P3 *, repeat from *-*. Rib-2: * K4, P4 *, repeat from *-*. Stripe pattern (body): M = Muskat, V = Vivaldi 6-6-7-7-7 cm (incl. rib) with 1 strand pink M + 1 strand cerise V, 8-9-9-9-10 cm with 1 strand old pink M + 1 strand cerise V, 7-7-7-7-7 cm with 1 strand old pink M + 1 strand raspberry V, then work with 1 strand apricot M + 1 strand raspberry V until the decreases to raglan are finished on both body and sleeves. Stripe pattern (sleeves): 12 cm (incl. rib) with 1 strand pink M + 1 strand cerise V, 13 cm with 1 strand old pink M + 1 strand cerise V, 14 cm with 1 strand old pink M + 1 strand raspberry V, then work with1 strand apricot M + 1 strand raspberry V until the sleeve is worked together with the body, continue this stripe until decreases to raglan are finished. Decrease tip (for raglan): Decrease as follows in all transitions between body and sleeves - all decreases are worked from the right side: (start 3 stitches before the marker thread): K2 together, K2 (marker thread sits in middle of these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch as if to knit, K1, pass slipped stitch over. ------------------------------------------------------------ Body: Cast on 102-114-126-138-156 stitches with circular needle size 6 mm and 1 strand pink Muskat + 1 strand cerise Vivaldi (= 2 strands). Work Stripe pattern (body) - see description above - NOTE: Start with 1 round stocking stitch, then work the next 4 cm in Rib-1. Change to circular needle size 7 mm and continue with stocking stitch to finished length at the same time as you adjust the number of stitches to 104-114-124-138-154 stitches on round 1 after the rib. Insert 1 marker thread in each side. Remember the knitting tension. At the same time, when piece measures 12 and 24 cm increase 1 stitch on each side of both marker threads = 112-122-132-146-162 stitches. When piece measures 32-33-34-35-36 cm cast off 8 stitches in each side for armholes (i.e. 4 stitches on each side of marker threads) = 48-53-58-65-73 stitches left on front and back pieces. Lay piece to one side and work sleeves. Sleeve: Cast on 40-40-48-48-48 stitches with double pointed needles size 6 mm and 1 strand pink Muskat + 1 strand cerise Vivaldi (= 2 strands). Work Stripe pattern (sleeves) - see description above - NOTE: Start with 1 round stocking stitch, then 2 rounds of Rib-2. Then decrease all K4 to K3 = 35-35-42-42-42 stitches. Work 1 round with K3 / P4, then decrease all P4 to P3 = 30-30-36-36-36 stitches. Continue rib with K3 / P3 until piece measures 5 cm. Change to double pointed needles size 7 mm and continue with stocking stitch to finished length. At the same time, when piece measures 10 cm increase 2 stitches mid under sleeve every 5.5-5-5.5-4.5-3.5. cm a total of 7-8-7-8-10 times = 44-46-50-52-56 stitches. When sleeve measures 47-47-46-46-46 cm cast off 8 stitches mid under sleeve = 36-38-42-44-48 stitches. Lay piece to one side and work 1 more sleeve. Yoke: Place sleeves on same circular needle as body where you have cast off stitches for armholes = 168-182-200-218-242 stitches. Insert 1 marker thread in all transitions between body and sleeves (= 4 marker threads). Work 2-0-0-1-1 rounds before starting to decrease. Raglan: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of all marker threads = 8 decreases per round. Decrease as follows - see Decrease tip: Every 4th round: 4-5-4-3-2 times and every 2nd round: 0-0-3-5-8 times. After the last decrease there are 136-142-144-154-162 stitches left on needle. Neck: Change to 1 strand coral Muskat + 1 strand raspberry Vivaldi and place all stitches on circular needle size 6 mm. Knit 1 round at the same time as you adjust the number of stitches to 126-140-144-144-152 stitches by decreasing 0-0-4-4-4 stitches evenly over each sleeve and 5-1-0-1-1 stitches evenly over the front and back pieces (In Size L you need to increase 4 stitches evenly on front and back pieces). Purl 1 round and knit 1 round. Then work rib with K4 / P3 in Sizes S + M, and K4 / P4 in Sizes L + XL + XXL - make sure the K4 in each raglan are continued up into neck. When rib measures 4 cm, decrease all P3 to P2 and all P4 to P3 = 108-120-126-126-133 stitches. When rib measures 6 cm decrease all K4 to K3 = 90-100-108-108-114 stitches. When rib measures 8-8-9-9-9 cm cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl. Crochet edge: Work 1 round with chain-spaces around neck and around bottom of sleeves with hook size 4.5 mm and yellow green Vivaldi as follows: 1 double crochet in first stitch, * 5 chain stitches, skip approx. 2 stitches, 1 double crochet in next stitch *, repeat from *-* and finish with 5 chain stitches and 1 slip stitch in first double crochet at beginning of round. Assembly: Sew opening under sleeves. |
