Hello, I am planning to make these. They look lovely. Only problem is that my foot is more like a size 40/41. How big should my squares be? Also, could I finish with an extra edge (contrasting colour) on top once they are assembled? Thank you!
24.08.2024 - 16:17DROPS Design answered:
Dear Veronique, for size 40/41 you could try a 18x18 cm square, as long as you use the same yarn as stated. If after felting it's too big, you could try felting it again. And yes, you could work an edge after assembling the piece but before felting the slippers. Happy crocheting!

Hi, I don't know if it makes a difference, but which side is the right side please? Am asking because we have to turn work every round. Also, do we need to make knots to secure the yarn or it is enough to weave them in - since the work will be shrunk during felting. Thank you :D
21.11.2021 - 11:03DROPS Design answered:
Dear Tina, since you are turning the piece after each row, both sides will be simolar, so it does not really matter which one is the RS. Also, since you are weaving in the ends, it is not necessary to knot the yarn, just weve them in carefully. Happy Stitching!

I've made four pairs of these in different colours and they have proved very popular with my friends. I also struggled with the sewing together of the first pair but then made little paper labels with the letter as per the diagram and pinned them onto the correct edge. Then it was simple! I love felting them in the washing machine - like magic

Turn piece. ROUND 3 (tan): 3 ch, 2 tr in first ch-loop, * 3 tr in next ch-loop, 3 ch, 3 tr in the same ch-loop, 3 tr in next ch-loop, *, repeat from *-* a total of 3 times, 3 tr in next ch-loop, 3 ch, 3 tr in the same ch-loop, finish with 1 sl st in 3rd ch from beg of round. SIZE 35/37: square measures approx 12 x 12 cm. SIZE 38/40: square measures approx 15 x 15 cm. ASSEMBLY: Crochet 8 squares for each slipper and sew them tog, edge to edge as shown in fig-1. Fig-2 shows the slipper after it has been sewn tog – NOTE: by arrows in fig-2 (i.e. in corner mid upper foot and in corner mid back on heel) do not sew tog the ch-loops, i.e. leave a small opening, otherwise it will be difficult to put the slipper on. FELTING: Wash slippers in the washing machine with a detergent free of enzymes and optical bleach. Wash at 40 degrees with normal spin, but without pre-wash. After wash form the slipper to the right size whilst still wet and leave to dry. At subsequent washes wash slippers at a wool programme. NOTE: If the slippers haven’t felted enough, wash them again. If they have felted too much, soak them until thoroughly wet and pull them to desired length. AFTER FELTING: If the piece is not felted enough and is too big: Wash the piece one more time in the washing machine while it is still wet add a terry towel that measures approx. 50 x 70 cm - NOTE: Do not use a short program. If the piece has been felted too much and is too small: While the piece is still wet stretch it to the correct measurements, if the piece is dry, make sure to soak it first. Remember: All subsequent washes are as a normal wool garment. |
