------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows, from both the right and wrong side. 1 ridge in height = knit 2 rows. BANDS WITH I-CORD: BEGINNING OF ROW: Work the band as follows (6 stitches): Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with yarn in front, knit 1, work 4 garter stitches. END OF ROW: Work the band as follows (6 stitches): Work until there are 6 stitches left on the row, work 4 garter stitches, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with yarn in front, knit 1. Work like this from both the right and wrong side. RAGLAN: All increases are worked from the right side. Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over, which is worked as follows on the next row: BEFORE RAGLAN-STITCH (yarn over twists to the left): Purl through the stitch loop that lies on the back of the needle (avoids a hole). Continue the new stitches in stocking stitch. AFTER RAGLAN-STITCH (yarn over twists to the right): Slip the yarn over from the left needle to the right needle purl-wise, then replace it by inserting the left needle through the back (the yarn over is the other way round). Purl through the stitch loop that lies on the front of the needle (avoids a hole). Continue the new stitches in stocking stitch. BUTTONHOLES: Work the buttonholes on the right band (when the garment is worn) from the right side, when there are 5 stitches left on the row as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Make 1 yarn over, knit 2 together, knit 1, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, knit 1. ROW 2 (wrong side): Work the band as before, knitting the yarn over to leave a hole. The first buttonhole is worked on the first row from the right side after the neck is finished. Then work the other 5-5-6-6-6-6-6 buttonholes with 9-9½-8-8½-8½-9-9½ cm between each one. The bottom buttonhole is worked in the transition between the stocking stitch and rib. SLEEVE TIP: When knitting up stitches under the sleeve, you can get a small hole in the transition between stitches on the body and sleeve. This hole can be closed by picking up the strand between 2 stitches and working this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JACKET – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE. The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The neck and yoke are worked back and forth with circular needle, from mid front and top down while increasing for raglan. When the yoke is finished, it is divided for body and sleeves and the body is continued back and forth, while the sleeves wait. The sleeves are worked in the round, top down. NECK: Cast on 69-69-71-77-79-85-85 stitches with circular needle size 6 mm and DROPS Snow or DROPS Andes. Work the first row as follows from the right side: 6 stitches according to BANDS WITH I-CORD – read explanation above, work rib (knit 1 and purl 1) until there are 7 stitches left, knit 1 and work 6 stitches according to bands with I-cord. Continue this rib back and forth for 6-6-6-6-7-7-7 cm. Insert 1 marker inside one band (mid-front), the piece is now measured from here. YOKE: Change to circular needle size 8 mm. Insert 4 markers as follows, without working the stitches and inserting each marker in a stitch (raglan-stitches). You increase for raglan on each side of the raglan-stitches. Count 14-14-14-16-16-18-18 stitches (= left front piece), insert marker-1 in the next stitch, count 11-11-11-11-11-11-11 stitches (= sleeve), insert marker-2 in the next stitch, count 15-15-17-19-21-23-23 stitches (= back piece), insert marker-3 in the next stitch, count 11-11-11-11-11-11-11 stitches (= sleeve), insert marker-4 in the next stitch. There are 14-14-14-16-16-18-18 stitches left (= right front piece). Work stocking stitch back and forth with the band-stitches as before and increase for RAGLAN on each side of the raglan-stitches – read explanation above for how to increase, working as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Knit, working the bands as before and increase for raglan on each side of the raglan-stitches (8 increased stitches) – remember to work the first BUTTONHOLE – read explanation above. ROW 2 (wrong side): Purl, working the bands as before (remember to work the yarn overs as described under RAGLAN). Work ROWS 1 and 2 a total of 3-4-7-6-8-8-7 times (6-8-14-12-16-16-14 rows worked) = 93-101-127-125-143-149-141 stitches. Remember to maintain the knitting tension. Continue increasing for raglan as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Knit, working the bands as before and increase for raglan on each side of the raglan-stitches (8 increased stitches). ROW 2 (wrong side): Purl, working the bands as before (remember to work the yarn overs as described under RAGLAN). ROW 3 (right side): Knit, working the bands as before and increase for raglan only on the front and back pieces, i.e., before markers 1 and 3 and after markers 2 and 4; do not increase on the sleeves (4 increased stitches). ROW 4 (wrong side): Purl, working the bands as before. Work ROWS 1 to 4 a total of 7-7-6-7-6-7-8 times (28-28-24-28-24-28-32 rows worked): 7-7-6-7-6-7-8 increases in height on the sleeves and 14-14-12-14-12-14-16 increases in height on the front and back pieces = 177-185-199-209-215-233-237 stitches. All increases for raglan are finished: A total of 17-18-19-20-20-22-23 increases in height on the front and back pieces and 10-11-13-13-14-15-15 increases in height on the sleeves. Continue stocking stitch and the bands as before without further increases, until the yoke measures 24-26-27-28-28-31-33 cm from the marker mid-front. Now divide for the body and sleeves. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES Work the first 32-33-34-37-37-41-42 stitches as before (= front piece) place the next 31-33-37-37-39-41-41 stitches on a stitch holder/thread for the sleeve, cast on 4-6-6-8-10-12-14 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), work 51-53-57-61-63-69-71 stocking stitches (back piece), place the next 31-33-37-37-39-41-41 stitches on a stitch holder/thread for the sleeve, cast on 4-6-6-8-10-12-14 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), work the last 32-33-34-37-37-41-42 stitches (front piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. BODY: = 123-131-137-151-157-175-183 stitches. Continue stocking stitch and the bands as before until the piece measures 45-47-49-51-52-54-56 cm from the marker mid-front. On the next row from the right side begin the rib, AT THE SAME TIME increase 12-12-14-14-16-18-20 stitches evenly on the first row (do not increase across the bands) = 135-143-151-165-173-193-203 stitches, working as follows: Change to circular needle size 6 mm. Work the band as before, rib (knit 1 and purl 1 – remember to increase) until there are 7 stitches left, knit 1 and work the band as before. When the rib measures 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 cm, cast off slightly loosely with knit above knit and purl above purl. The jacket measures approx. 49-51-53-55-57-59-61 cm from the marker mid-front and 54-56-58-60-62-64-66 cm from the shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 31-33-37-37-39-41-41 sleeve-stitches from one thread/stitch holder onto circular needle size 8 mm and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 4-6-6-8-10-12-14 cast-on stitches under the sleeve – read SLEEVE TIP = 35-39-43-45-49-53-55 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the new stitches under the sleeve. Work stocking stitch in the round. AT THE SAME TIME, after 1 cm, decrease mid-under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP as follows: Decrease 2 stitches 2-3-4-4-6-6-6 times every 4-4-3½-3½-3½-3½-3½ cm = 31-33-35-37-37-41-43 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 38-37-36-35-35-32-31 cm from the division. Change to double pointed needles size 6 mm. Work rib (knit 1 and purl 1), AT THE SAME TIME increase 3-3-3-3-3-5-7 stitches evenly on the first round = 34-36-38-40-40-46-50 stitches. When the rib measures 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 cm, cast off slightly loosely with rib. The sleeve measures approx. 42-41-40-39-40-37-36 cm from the division. ASSEMBLY: Sew the buttons onto the left band. |
