------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagram A.1. The diagram shows the pattern from the right side. KNITTING TIP: When increasing on the back piece, work the new stitches into the pattern (i.e., 5-5-6-6-5-5-5 stocking stitches between each repeat of A.1). Do not work the lace pattern in A.1 before there is room for a whole repeat A.1. After joining the left and right front shoulders and casting on stitches for the neckline, work the increased stitches on the front piece into the established pattern but do not work the lace pattern in A.1 until you have worked at least 2 rows, so the neckline stays neat when knitting up stitches for the neck. INCREASE TIP-1: INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS LEFT – from RIGHT SIDE (new stitch twists to left): Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the row below, pick up the strand from the front and knit through the stitch-loop that lies on the back of the needle. INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE RIGHT- from RIGHT SIDE (new stitch twists to right): Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the row below, pick up the strand from the back and knit through the stitch-loop that lies on the front of the needle. INCREASE TIP-2: INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE RIGHT- from WRONG SIDE: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the row below, pick up the strand from the back and purl through the stitch-loop that lies on the front of the needle. INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS LEFT – from WRONG SIDE: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the row below, pick up the strand from the front and purl through the stitch-loop that lies on the back of the needle. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of diagram A.1 under the sleeve as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before A.1, knit 2 together, knit 1, work A.1, knit 1, slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE. The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. If there is a «0» in your chosen size, skip the information and go straight to the next instruction. Work according to points 1 – 5. 1. BACK PIECE: Cast on stitches for the back of the neck. Work the back piece back and forth, top down, increasing stitches on each side until the shoulder stitch-count has been achieved. The back piece has slightly diagonal shoulders. 2. FRONT PIECE: Worked in 2 sections (each side of neck). Start by knitting up stitches along one back shoulder, working downwards and increasing for the neckline. Repeat on the other shoulder. Then increase stitches for the neckline, joining the 2 front pieces and continuing back and forth to the correct length. 3. YOKE: Place all the stitches on the same circular needle, work first the front piece, knit up stitches for one sleeve along the side of the front piece, work the back piece, knit up stitches for the second sleeve along the other side of the front piece. The yoke is continued in the round. 4. INCREASE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: While continuing the yoke, stitches are increased, first for the sleeves and later for both the body and sleeves. 5. BODY AND SLEEVES: When the increases and the yoke are finished, the yoke is divided for the body and sleeves. The body is finished in the round while the sleeves wait. Then the sleeves are worked in the round, top down. Stitches are knitted up around the neckline and the neck is worked in the round to finish. BACK PIECE: The piece is worked back and forth. Cast on 28-28-32-32-36-36-36 stitches with circular needle size 5 mm and DROPS Air. ROW 1 (wrong side): Purl. ROW 2 (right side): Read INCREASE TIP-1. Knit 3, increase 1 stitch towards the left, knit 0-0-1-1-4-4-4, * work A.1 (4 stitches), knit 5-5-6-6-5-5-5 *, work from *-* a total of 2 times, work A.1, knit 0-0-1-1-4-4-4, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 3. ROW 3 (wrong side): Read INCREASE TIP-2. Purl 3, increase 1 stitch towards the right, purl 1-1-2-2-5-5-5, * work A.1, purl 5-5-6-6-6-5-5-5 *, work from *-* a total of 2 times, work A.1, purl 1-1-2-2-5-5-5, increase 1 stitch towards the left, purl 3. AFTER ROW 3 (Read KNITTING TIP in explanations above): Work ROWS 2 and 3 a total of 9-9-10-10-11-11-11 times (18-18-20-20-22-22-22 rows worked). After the last row there are 64-64-72-72-80-80-80 stitches. Work 2 more rows of pattern without increasing. Remember to maintain the knitting tension. The piece measures approx. 8-8-8-8-9-9-9 cm from the cast-on edge. Cut the strand and place the stitches on a stitch holder. LEFT SHOULDER: Use circular needle size 5 mm and DROPS Air. Find the left back shoulder as follows: Lay the back piece flat, right side up, with the stitch holder/thread towards you; left-hand side of piece = left shoulder. Start from the right side, by the neck on the left back shoulder and knit up 1 stitch in each row worked, inside the outermost stitch as far as the armhole, then finish by knitting up 1 stitch outermost on the shoulder = 21-21-23-23-25-25-25 shoulder-stitches. Insert 1 marker by the neck. All measurements on the front piece are taken from this marker, measured in the knitting direction. Purl 1 row from the wrong side. ROW 1 (right side): Knit 5-5-5-5-1-1-1, * work A.1, knit 5-5-6-6-5-5-5 *, work from *-* a total of 1-1-1-1-2-2-2 times, work A.1, knit 3-3-4-4-2-2-2. ROW 2 (wrong side): Purl 3-3-4-4-2-2-2, * work A.1, purl 5-5-6-6-5-5-5 *, work from *-* a total of 1-1-1-1-2-2-2 times, work A.1, purl 5-5-5-5-1-1-1. Work ROWS 1 and 2 until the piece measures approx. 7-7-9-9-10-11-12 cm. Now cast on stitches at the end of each row from the wrong side as follows – remember KNITTING TIP. Cast on 1 stitch 2 times, 2 stitches 1 time and 3 stitches 1 time, with the last row from the wrong side = 28-28-30-30-32-32-32 stitches. The piece measures approx. 11-11-13-13-14-15-16 cm from the marker. 1-1-2-2-2-2-3 cm of the neckline-depth will lie on the back piece. Cut the strand, place the stitches on a stitch holder and work the right front shoulder along the right back shoulder. RIGHT SHOULDER: Use circular needle size 5 mm and DROPS Air. Start from the right side by the armhole on the right back shoulder and knit up 1 stitch outermost on the shoulder, then knit up 1 stitch in each row worked, inside the outermost stitch as far as the neck = 21-21-23-23-25-25-25 shoulder-stitches. Insert 1 marker by the neck. All measurements on the front piece are taken from this marker, measured in the knitting direction. Purl 1 row from the wrong side. ROW 1 (right side): Knit 3-3-4-4-2-2-2, * work A.1, knit 5-5-6-6-5-5-5 *, work from *-* a total of 1-1-1-1-2-2-2 times, work A.1, knit 5-5-5-5-1-1-1. ROW 2 (wrong side): Purl 5-5-5-5-1-1-1, * work A.1, purl 5-5-6-6-5-5-5 *, work from *-* a total of 1-1-1-1-2-2-2 times, work A.1, purl 3-3-4-4-2-2-2. Work ROWS 1 and 2 until the piece measures approx. 7-7-9-9-10-11-12 cm. Now cast on stitches at the end of each row from the right side as follows – remember KNITTING TIP. Cast on 1 stitch 2 times, 2 stitches 1 time and 3 stitches 1 time = 28-28-30-30-32-32-32 stitches. Purl back from the wrong side. The piece measures approx. 11-11-13-13-14-15-16 cm from the marker. The front pieces are now joined and stitches are cast on for the neckline mid-front. FRONT PIECE: Start from the right side on the right shoulder. Continue the pattern across the right shoulder, cast on 8-8-12-12-16-16-16 stitches for the neckline and continue the pattern across the left shoulder = 64-64-72-72-80-80-80 stitches. Work the pattern back from the wrong side, across all stitches. NOTE: If necessary, work a few more rows of pattern so the pattern finishes on the same row as the back piece. The front and back pieces are now joined and stitches are knitted up for the sleeves as follows. YOKE: ROUND 1 (starting from the right side): Knit 2 together, continue the pattern until there are 2 stitches left, slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (1 decreased stitch), insert 1 marker, knit up 18-18-22-22-24-26-26 stitches along the left front piece (= sleeve-stitches, knitted up inside 1 stitch), insert 1 marker, knit together the first 2 stitches on the back piece (1 decreased stitch), continue the pattern until there are 2 stitches left on the back piece, slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (1 decreased stitch), insert 1 marker, knit up 18-18-22-22-24-26-26 stitches along the right front piece (= sleeve-stitches, knitted up inside 1 stitch), insert 1 marker = 160-160-184-184-204-208-208 stitches. The yoke is continued in the round. ROUND 2: Continue the pattern to the first marker, move the marker onto the right needle, increase 1 stitch towards the left, knit 7-7-9-9-10-11-11, work A.1, knit 7-7-9-9-10-11-11 (= sleeve), increase 1 stitch towards the right, move the marker onto the right needle, continue the pattern across the back piece, move the marker onto the right needle, increase 1 stitch towards the left, knit 7-7-9-9-10-11-11, work A.1, knit 7-7-9-9-10-11-11 (= sleeve), increase 1 stitch towards the right (= sleeve), move the marker onto the right needle. 4 increased stitches = 164-164-188-188-208-212-212 stitches. Repeat this round 0-0-0-0-1-1-1 more time. A.1 is worked in the middle of each sleeve, while the other sleeve-stitches are knitted = 164-164-188-188-212-216-216 stitches. Continue as follows ROUND 1: Continue the pattern to the first marker (= front piece), move the marker onto the right needle, increase 1 stitch towards the left, continue stocking stitch and A.1 to the next marker (= sleeve), increase 1 stitch towards the right, move the marker onto the right needle, continue the pattern to the next marker (= back piece), move the marker onto the right needle, increase 1 stitch towards the left, continue stocking stitch and A.1 to the next marker, increase 1 stitch towards the right (= sleeve), move the marker onto the right needle. 4 increased stitches (2 on each sleeve) = 168-168-192-192-216-220-220 stitches. ROUND 2: Continue the pattern and stocking stitch without increasing. Work ROUNDS 1 and 2 a total of 7-6-7-7-7-2-1 times = 192-188-216-216-240-224-220 stitches. Now increase on both the body and sleeves, increasing inside 2 stitches on the body so there are 2 stitches between the increases on the sleeves and body: ROUND 1: Knit 2, increase 1 stitch towards the left, continue the pattern until there are 2 stitches left before the first marker, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 2, move the marker onto the right needle, increase 1 stitch towards the left, continue the pattern to the next marker (= sleeve), increase 1 stitch towards the right, move the marker onto the right needle, knit 2, increase 1 stitch towards the left, continue the pattern until there are 2 stitches left before the next marker, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 2, move the marker onto the right needle, increase 1 stitch towards the left, continue the pattern to the next marker (= sleeve), increase 1 stitch towards the right, move the marker onto the right needle (8 increased stitches: 1 increased stitch on each side of 2 stitches in each transition between the body and sleeves). The new stitches are continued in stocking stitch. ROUND 2: Continue the pattern without increasing. Work ROUNDS 1 and 2 a total of 5-8-7-10-10-15-18 times (10-16-14-20-20-30-36 rounds worked). 5-8-7-10-10-15-18 increases in height on both the body and sleeves: 44-48-52-58-62-64-68 stitches on each sleeve and 72-78-84-90-98-108-114 stitches on the front and back pieces = 232-252-272-296-320-344-364 stitches. The sleeve measures approx. 11-13-13-16-16-16-18 cm. When the jumper is folded double at the shoulder, the piece measures approx. 16-18-19-22-23-24-26 cm from outermost on the shoulder and down the armhole. Continue the pattern without increasing until the piece measures 18-19-20-22-24-25-26 cm, from outermost on the shoulder and down the armhole. Now divide for the body and sleeves. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES Work the first 72-78-84-90-98-108-114 stitches as before (= front piece), place the next 44-48-52-58-62-64-68 stitches on a stitch holder for the sleeve, cast on 6-6-8-8-10-10-12 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), work the next 72-78-84-90-98-108-114 stitches as before (= back piece), place the next 44-48-52-58-62-64-68 stitches on a stitch holder for the sleeve, cast on 6-6-8-8-10-10-12 stitches (mid-under the sleeve). The body and sleeves are finished separately. BODY: = 156-168-184-196-216-236-252 stitches. Continue stocking stitch and pattern in the round (the new stitches under each sleeve are knitted), until the piece measures 45-48-48-50-51-53-54 cm from the cast-on edge mid-back. Knit 2 rounds. Change to circular needle size 4 mm. Work rib (knit 2, purl 2), AT THE SAME TIME increase 20-20-24-24-28-28-32 stitches evenly on the first round = 176-188-208-220-244-264-284 stitches. When the rib measures 4-4-5-5-6-6-6 cm, cast off slightly loosely with rib. The jumper measures approx. 50-53-54-56-58-60-61 cm from mid-back and 51-54-56-58-60-62-64 cm from the shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 44-48-52-58-62-64-68 sleeve-stitches from one stitch holder onto circular needle size 5 mm and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 6-6-8-8-10-10-12 cast-on stitches under the sleeve – read SLEEVE TIP = 50-54-60-66-72-74-80 stitches. Insert a marker-thread on each side of the 4 middle stitches under the sleeve. Pattern is worked here. Work stocking stitch and A.1 on top of the sleeve. In addition, work A.1 across the 4 stitches under the sleeve, matching the row to the pattern on top of the sleeve. AT THE SAME TIME, after 1 round, begin decreasing mid-under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP as follows: Decrease 2 stitches every 4-4-4-4-3-4-3 cm a total of 3-3-5-6-7-6-7 times = 44-48-50-54-58-62-66 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 38-38-37-35-31-32-31 cm from the division. Knit 2 rounds. Change to double pointed needles size 4 mm. Work rib (knit 1, purl 1), AT THE SAME TIME increase 6-6-6-6-6-8-8 stitches evenly on the first round = 50-54-56-60-64-70-74 stitches. When the rib measures 4-4-5-5-6-6-6 cm, cast off slightly loosely with rib. The sleeve measures approx. 43-43-42-40-37-38-38 cm from the division and 54-56-55-56-54-55-56 cm from the shoulder. NECK: Use circular needle size 4 mm and DROPS Air. Start from the right side, on one shoulder-line and knit up 76 to 104 stitches around the neckline, knitting up inside 1 stitch. The stitch count must be divisible by 4. Work rib (knit 2, purl 2) for 3-3-3-3-4-4-4 cm. Cast off slightly loosely with rib. |
