Bonjour.

Bon tricot!

It says to cast on 80 stitches for the 3-4 year old size. Is that going to fit over the head?

Hi Cindy, As long as you don't cast on too tightly, the neck will fit over the child's head. Or you can cast on more stitches for a wider neck-edge if you wish. Regards, Drops Team.

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- INCREASE TIP (evenly spaced): To work out how to increase evenly, count the total number of stitches on the needle (e.g., 84 stitches) and divide by the number of increases to be made (e.g., 20) = 4.2. In this example, increase by making 1 yarn over after approx. each 4th stitch. On the next round work the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. SLEEVE TIP: When knitting up stitches under the sleeve, you can get a small hole in the transition between stitches on the body and sleeve. This hole can be closed by picking up the strand between 2 stitches and working this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The neck and yoke are worked in the round with circular needle, top down and from the right back shoulder. When the yoke is finished, it is divided for the body and sleeves and the body continued in the round, while the sleeves wait. The sleeves are worked top down, in the round. If there is a «0» in your chosen size, skip the information and go straight to the next instruction. NECK: Cast on 80-80-84-88-88-92-96 stitches with circular or double pointed needles size 3 mm and DROPS Karisma. Knit 1 round. Work rib in the round (knit 2, purl 2) for 3-3-3-3-4-4-4 cm. The round begins on the right back shoulder. Insert 1 marker after the first 27-27-28-29-29-31-32 stitches (approx. mid-front), the piece is now measured from here. YOKE: Change to circular needle size 4 mm. Knit 1 round and increase 16-20-20-20-24-24-24 stitches evenly spaced – read INCREASE TIP = 96-100-104-108-112-116-120 stitches. Work stocking stitch in the round, increasing as follows (remember to maintain the knitting tension): When the yoke measures 2-2-3-3-3-3-3 cm from the marker, increase 24-25-26-27-28-29-30 stitches evenly spaced (i.e., make 1 yarn over after every 4th stitch on the round) = 120-125-130-135-140-145-150 stitches. When the yoke measures 4-4-5-5-5-5½-5½ cm, increase 24-25-26-27-28-29-30 stitches evenly spaced (i.e., make 1 yarn over after every 5th stitch) = 144-150-156-162-168-174-180 stitches. When the yoke measures 6-6-7-7-7-8-8 cm, increase 24-25-26-27-28-29-30 stitches evenly spaced (i.e., make 1 yarn over after every 6th stitch) = 168-175-182-189-196-203-210 stitches. When the yoke measures 8-8-9-9-9-10½-10½ cm increase 24-25-26-27-28-29-30 stitches evenly spaced (i.e., make 1 yarn over after every 7th stitch) = 192-200-208-216-224-232-240 stitches. When the yoke measures 10-10-11-11-11-13-13 cm increase 24-25-26-27-28-29-30 stitches evenly spaced (i.e., make 1 yarn over after every 8th stitch) = 216-225-234-243-252-261-270 stitches. On the next round increase 0-1-0-1-0-1-0 stitches = 216-226-234-244-252-262-270 stitches. Work stocking stitch until the yoke measures 13-14-15-16-17-18-18 cm from the marker. Now divide for the body and sleeves. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: Place the first 46-48-48-50-51-52-53 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 6-6-8-8-8-10-10 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), knit 62-65-69-72-75-79-82 (= front piece), place the next 46-48-48-50-51-52-53 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 6-6-8-8-8-10-10 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), knit the last 62-65-69-72-75-79-82 stitches (= back piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. BODY: = 136-142-154-160-166-178-184 stitches. Insert 1 marker in the middle of the 6-6-8-8-8-10-10 cast-on stitches under one sleeve. Work to this marker; the round now begins here. Continue with stocking stitch in the round until the piece measures 26-29-33-37-40-42-43 cm from the marker mid-front. Change to circular needle size 3 mm. Work rib (knit 2, purl 2), AT THE SAME TIME increase 24-30-30-32-34-34-36 stitches evenly on the first round – remember INCREASE TIP = 160-172-184-192-200-212-220 stitches. When the rib measures 3-3-3-3-4-4-4 cm cast off with rib. The jumper measures approx. 29-32-36-40-44-46-47 cm from the marker mid-front and 33-36-40-44-48-50-52 cm from the shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 46-48-48-50-51-52-53 sleeve-stitches from one thread on circular needle size 4 mm and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 6-6-8-8-8-10-10 stitches cast on under the sleeve – read SLEEVE TIP = 52-54-56-58-59-62-63 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the 6-6-8-8-8-10-10 new stitches under the sleeve. Start at the marker-thread and work stocking stitch in the round. When the sleeve measures 2 cm, decrease 2 stitches under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 3-4-5-5½-7½-7-10 cm a total of 6-6-6-6-5-6-5 times = 40-42-44-46-49-50-53 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 20-25-29-32-35-39-44 cm from the division. Change to double pointed needles size 3 mm. Work rib (knit 2, purl 2), AT THE SAME TIME increase 8-6-8-6-7-10-7 stitches evenly on the first round – remember INCREASE TIP = 48-48-52-52-56-60-60 stitches. When the rib measures 3-3-3-3-4-4-4 cm, cast off with rib. The sleeve measures approx. 23-28-32-35-39-43-48 cm from the division. |
