Cast on new sts at side of work

The video is showing two techniques of casting on new sts at the side of your work e.g. when we are knitting a front piece and sleeves in one, and cast on new sts each side for the sleeves. First we cast on with loops, which is the easiest. It creates a loose edge which is ok if it will be seamed afterward like a sleeve seam. The next method is cable cast on also called knitted cast on, which is a great way when you want a firm nice edge.

Når det gjelder strikket opplegg, er det min erfaring at det er bedre å bruke en tynn heklekrok enn en strikkepinne. Det er mye lettere å fange opp garnet og trekke det gjennom maskene på den måten.

In this DROPS video, we show you how to work each front piece with diagonal shoulders and short rows, the piece is worked bottom up. Then we show how to increase stitches for the neckline and join the shoulders for the back piece, then continue working top down. An I-cord band is worked on each side. We have already worked one section of the front piece and decreased stitches for the neckline. The video shows how we work 6 short rows (German short rows) on the right front piece, creating a diagonal shoulder. Then we show how to increase 1 stitch 3 times towards the neckline, which is now the back piece. Then we show the same for the left shoulder and finally cast on 12 stitches between the shoulders before the shoulders are knitted together. We use the yarn DROPS Snow in the video. This technique is used among other things in pattern DROPS 255-9, Driftwood Vest, with a different stitch count, number of short rows and cast-on stitches. In this DROPS video we show how you can cast on with two circular needles. We sometimes recommend this in our patterns to prevent the cast on edge being too tight. When you have cast on the required number of stitches, you pull out one circular needle and start to knit. In this video, we cast on with needle 7 and 8 = US 10,75 and US 11, and it is needle 8 = US 10,75 that we pull out. We use the yarn DROPS Snow in the video.
