In this DROPS video we show how to knit a gusset heel on a sock following a basic method.

Knit the heel sts in the back in stockinette st back and forth on needles for 5-6 cm/2-2½ inches.
Start dec on next row from RS. Knit row until in pattern mentioned numbers of sts remain, K2 tog into back of loop, turn piece.
Knit WS row until in pattern mentioned numbers of sts remain, P2 tog, turn piece.
Continue back and forth dec like this with 1 less st remaining each time before working 2 sts tog.
After heel dec pick up in pattern mentioned numbers of sts on each side of heel and continue in stockinette st in the round on all needles again.

For this type of heel, the length reaches midway under the heel. 2) Next, the heel is knitted together beneath the foot. 3) The sock is then continued in the round, with stitches picked up along both sides of the heel length, working towards the toe. 4) This heel creates a square shape, which is why this type of heel is known as a square heel.

To begin, the stitches on top of the foot are placed on a thread, while the stitches at the back are kept on the needles and the heel is worked as follows: 1) The heel is first worked in height, back and forth across the heel-stitches. 2) Next, the bottom of the heel is worked to the required width and length by working short rows and decreasing stitches. 3) Once this step is completed, continue knitting in the round across all stitches, knitting up stitches on both sides of the heel (along the length). 4) The width and shape of the foot is worked by decreasing stitches on both sides, forming a small gusset heel – that is why this type of heel is known as a gusset heel.

In this DROPS video we show you how to knit an old-fashioned hell on the socks in DROPS 189-36. We have already knitted the leg and putted the 20 top of foot stitches on a stitch holder (we knit size 35/37). Continue by working stocking stitch back and forth over the heel stitches; on the first row from the right side increase stitches for a better fit as follows: Knit 9 stitches, increase 1 stitch, * knit 2 stitches, increase 1 stitch *, work from *-* a total of 3 times and then knit to end of row = 28 stitches on needle. Continue back and forth with stocking stitch to the measurement written in the pattern and insert 1 marker in middle of row. On the next row from the right side work as follows: Knit 10 stitches, knit together the next 8 stitches 2 and 2, knit the last 10 stitches. Turn and purl back. Knit 1 row from the right side. Now work back and forth from the wrong side to work the heel stitches together. All rows are worked from the wrong side. Turn and purl the first 12 stitches from the wrong side. Make sure that the strand is at the back of the piece and work as follows: LEFT NEEDLE: Knit 2 stitches twisted together, move the knitted-together stitches back onto the left needle and tighten the strand. Do not turn the piece. RIGHT NEEDLE: Insert the left needle into the 2 next stitches on the right needle and pick up the strand and take it around the left needle, then pull the strand through these 2 stitches and drop the 2 stitches from the right needle. Then move the knitted-together stitches back onto the right needle and tighten the strand. Do not turn the piece. Repeat LEFT and RIGHT NEEDLE like this until there are 2 stitches left. Now the heel stitches have been worked together. Place the 2 remaining stitches on the right needle and turn the piece to the right side. These socks are knitted in DROPS Karisma, but in the video we work with a thicker yarn; DROPS Snow. You must read the pattern be able to follow this video properly. How to knit with 2 threads to get a stronger heel - knitting tip

In this DROPS video we show how to get a stronger heel on a sock by knitting with 2 threads. Use strand inside and outside of ball (or use 2 balls) and work 1 stitch alternately with one and the other strand. This way you get a thicker heel without working with double strand. In the video, we already have knitted the rib and put the stitches mid on top of foot on a stitch holder and we show 2 rows where we knit with 2 strands.
