How to knit with 2 threads to get a stronger heel - knitting tip

In this DROPS video we show how to get a stronger heel on a sock by knitting with 2 threads. Use strand inside and outside of ball (or use 2 balls) and work 1 stitch alternately with one and the other strand. This way you get a thicker heel without working with double strand. In the video, we already have knitted the rib and put the stitches mid on top of foot on a stitch holder and we show 2 rows where we knit with 2 strands. These socks are knitted in DROPS Karisma, but in video we use a thicker yarn; DROPS Snow. You must read the pattern to be able to follow this video properly. Bonjour Mme Hubac, regardez bien la vidéo, vous allez tricoter alternativement avec le fil de l'intérieur de la pelote et celui de l'extérieur (comme un jacquard, 1 maille sur deux avec les fils), et sur l'envers, de la même façon, tout simplement. Bon tricot!

In this DROPS video, we show you how to knit a sock with a gusset heel - arguably the most common method for working a heel. To begin, the stitches on top of the foot are placed on a thread, while the stitches at the back are kept on the needles and the heel is worked as follows: 1) The heel is first worked in height, back and forth across the heel-stitches. 2) Next, the bottom of the heel is worked to the required width and length by working short rows and decreasing stitches. 3) Once this step is completed, continue knitting in the round across all stitches, knitting up stitches on both sides of the heel (along the length). 4) The width and shape of the foot is worked by decreasing stitches on both sides, forming a small gusset heel – that is why this type of heel is known as a gusset heel.

In this DROPS video we show you how to work a heel with a diagonal line from the heel towards the top of the foot This is achieved by working short rows. 1. First you work short rows across the top of the heel, then across the bottom of the heel, finishing by working in the round across all stitches and working towards the toe. 2. The stitches on the top of the foot are placed on a thread/stitch holder and you only work the heel-stitches. Work until there is 1 stitch left on the row. Turn, slip the first stitch on the left needle onto the right needle, tighten the strand and work back. Work like this back and forth, working 1 less stitch on each row and working to the stated stitch-count. 3. Continue back and forth but now working 1 more stitch on each row across the heel stitches. To avoid holes each time you turn, pick up the horisontal strand before the next stitch and place it twisted on the left needle, then work this together with the next stitch on the left needle. Turn, slip the first stitch on the left needle onto the right needle, tighten the strand and work back. Work like this back and forth until you have worked all the heel-stitches. 4. Place the stitches from the thread/stitch holder back onto the needles. 5. Continue in the round to the given length.
