With a yarn over you can create a decorative hole.
In the video we show 2 times how you increase 1 stitch by making a yarn over (yo)
Halfway through the video we have turned the work and show you how to work the yo in front or back loop depending if you prefer a larger or smaller hole. When working the back loop the stitch becomes twisted and this way the hole becomes a bit smaller.

Bonjour Nathalie, quand vous faites un jeté après 1 m end et avant 1 m env, tricotez la m end, passez le fil 1 x autour de l'aiguille et tricotez la m suivante à l'envers. Pour faire un jeté après une m env et avant une m endroit, tricotez la m env, laissez le fil devant l'ouvrage et tricotez la m suivante à l'end, le fil va se mettre automatiquement autour de l'aiguille et former le jeté. Bonjour Patricia, si vous tenez le fil dans la main droite, après 1 m end, le fil est derrière l'ouvrage, ramenez-le devant, puis entourez-le autour de l'aiguille droite pour qu'il soit de nouveau devant et prêt pour tricoter la m envers = le fil doit être enroulé 1 seule fois autour de l'aiguille droite. Dear Mrs Henesy, work previous st as shownn in diagram, make a YO and work next st as shown in diagram, you will have then worked 1 YO between 2 sts worked. Happy knitting!

Bonjour Mme Tavernier, Dans le diagramme M.1B du 129-37 on doit faire un double jeté (aux rangs 1 et 5), aux rangs suivants (=2 et 6), tricotez les 2 jetés comme dans la vidéo ci-dessous. Bon tricot!

Dear Michele, there are no errors in diagram M.1: M.1 is worked over 17 sts, 3xk2tog (= 3 sts), 6 YOs over 5 sts (= 11 sts), 3xk2 tog (= 3 sts)= 17 sts in total. Happy knitting!

Dear Nancy, if you are doing a YO to inc 1 st, you will get 1 more st for every YO - if you are doing a hole pattern without dec, the YO should compensate the dec. Happy knitting!

When you are told to make a yarn over (yo) on the purl side of your work, you make the yo exactly as when done on the right side. In this DROPS Video we show how to do so. On the next row you can create a hole by working into the front loop of the yarn over. Then we show again how to make the yarn over on purl side, and then on next row we work into the back loop to show how the yo (increase) that way can become invisible, and not create a hole.

Here is a great almost invisible method to increase by knitting a new stitch in the loop from the stitch on previous row. You can do it after or before a stitch just as we show in the video. Right side: put your left needle through stitch 2 rows below the stitch on the right needle. Lift it up on your left needle and knit it in the back loop. Left side: put your right needle into the stitch under the first stitch on your left needle. Pick up the loop and put it on your left needle. Knit this new stitch in the front loop, and also knit following stitch separate as usual. This is also a great method when you need to inc two stitches right next to each other, without having to work a stitch between them. You can knit 1, make a inc in the st below, then make an inc in the st below next st, then knit that st.

A common and very easy method to increase 1 stitch – there will be a little hole. In our video we show twice how you make a loop on right needle with the working thread away from you. You can make the increased stitch lean in different directions. If you want the inc stitch to lean to the left you make a loop on right needle with the working thread towards you.
