How to work a rib with knit twisted and purl stitches – back and forth

In this DROPS video we show a rib worked back and forth with 1 knit twisted stitch and 2 purl stitches. By knitting stitches twisted these stitches will "pop out" a bit and you will get a more distinctive rib, also gives a firmer and more stable rib. At the end of the video, we show 2 examples on ribs worked: 1 knit twisted stitch and 1 purl stitch and 2 knit twisted stitches and 2 purl stitch. We use the yarn DROPS Snow in the video. You must read a pattern and look at the chart to be able to follow this video properly. You’ll find patterns where this technique is used by clicking on the pictures below.

In this DROPS video we show how you can work a rib. Working a rib gives an elastic piece that is great for cuffs and edges. Often worked with Knit 1 / Purl 1 or Knit 2 / Purl 2. It’s important that all knitted stitches comes above knitted stitches, and all purled stitches come above the purled stitches. First, we show a rib with Knit 2 / Purl 2, then a rib with Knit 2 twisted / Purl 2. To get the twisted stitch, knit the stitch in the back loop. We show both techniques on the same piece so that you can more easily see the difference. We use the yarn DROPS Snow in the video. Work like this: From RS: Work 3 edge stitches in garter stitch, * 2 stitches in stockinette stitch , 2 stitches in garter stitch *, work from *-* until there are 5 stitches left, 2 stitches in stockinette stitch and finish with 3 edge stitches in garter stitch. Continue like this until end of row, turn. Repeat 1st and 2nd row until rib has desired measure in height.
