START THE PIECE HERE:

-------------------------------------------------------

FLAMINGO - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE:
The piece is worked in the round, from the beak to head and down the body.

BEAK-HEAD-BODY:
Work 2 chain stitches with hook size 3 mm and black.
ROUND 1:
In the 2nd stitch from the hook work 6 half treble crochets and finish the round with 1 slip stitch in the first half treble crochet.
ROUND 2:
1 chain stitch, work 1 double crochet in each half treble crochet = 6 double crochets, work 1 slip stitch with off-white in the first double crochet on the round (= colour change). Cut the black strand.
ROUND 3:
1 chain stitch, * 1 double crochet in the next double crochet, 2 double crochets in the next double crochet*, repeat from *-* to end of round = 9 double crochets; finish the round with 1 slip stitch in the first double crochet.
ROUND 4:
1 chain stitch, 1 double crochet in each double crochet = 9 double crochets; finish the round with 1 slip stitch in the first double crochet.
ROUND 5:
1 chain stitch, * 1 double crochet in each of the next 2 double crochets, 2 double crochets in the next double crochet *, repeat from *-* to end of round = 12 double crochets; finish the round with 1 slip stitch in the first double crochet.
ROUNDS 6 and 7:
1 chain stitch, 1 double crochet in each double crochet; finish the round with 1 slip stitch in the first double crochet.
ROUND 8:
1 chain stitch, 1 double crochet in each double crochet, work 1 slip stitch with cerise in the first double crochet on the round (= colour change). Cut the off-white strand.
ROUND 9:
1 chain stitch, * 1 double crochet in each of the next 3 double crochets, 2 double crochets in the next stitch *, repeat from *-* to end of round = 15 double crochets; finish the round with 1 slip stitch in the first double crochet.
ROUNDS 10 - 15:
1 chain stitch, 1 double crochet in each of the next 3 double crochets, work 2 together-crocheted treble crochets in each of the next 2 treble crochets – see CROCHETING TOGETHER-1 in explanations above. In each of the next 5 double crochets work 2 together-crocheted double treble crochets – see CROCHETING TOGETHER-2 in explanations above. In each of the next 2 double crochets work 2 together-crocheted treble crochets, 1 double crochet in each of the next 3 double crochets and finish with 1 slip stitch in the first double crochet on the round. REMEMBER THE CROCHET TENSION!

Before the next round sew 2 eyes onto the head with left-over black yarn.
ROUND 16 and onwards:
Work 1 chain stitch, 1 double crochet in each of the next 8 stitches – insert a small marker, in the 8th stitch = mid back. Continue with 1 double crochet in each stitch to end of round (= 15 double crochets). When you have worked the last double crochet on the round continue with double crochets without a finish to each round (i.e. do not start/finish the round with the chain stitch/slip stitch). Start the 17th round with 1 double crochet in the first double crochet on the previous round. Then work 1 double crochet in each double crochet until the neck measures 3 cm (measured from the marker mid back). Work as far as the double crochet mid back and then work 2 treble crochets in each double crochet for 1 round = 30 treble crochets. Continue with 1 treble crochet in each treble crochet (without a finish to each round) until the body of treble crochets measures approx. 5 cm. Then work 1 round of double crochets, but work the tail in the last treble crochet as follows: 1 slip stitch, 3 chain stitches, 4 double treble crochets, 3 chain stitches and 1 slip stitch.
Cut and fasten strand. Fill the beak and head with a little wadding.

LEGS:
The legs are worked over 3 stitches each, with 3 stitches between each leg. Work one leg on each side of the 3 stitches mid front. The legs are worked with 1 strand mustard.

FIRST LEG:
Crochet up 1 loop in each of the 3 stitches for the leg. Make 1 yarn over and pull it through all 3 loops – this is like working 3 stitches together.
* Make 1 yarn over, insert the hook into the first of the 3 stitches below. Pick up the strand at the front of the piece (i.e. work in the front loop of stitch) and pull the strand through = 3 loops on hook, make 1 yarn over and pull through all loops on hook *, repeat from *-* a total of 4 times.
Now work the knee as follows: * 1 yarn over, insert the hook in the first of the 3 stitches below. Pick up the strand at the front of the piece (i.e. work in the front loop of stitch) and pull the strand through = 3 loops on hook, make 1 yarn over and pull through the loops on the hook *, repeat from *-* a total of 3 times, but repeat in the same stitch so you get a small knee. Continue in the same way as before the knee 4 times and then work the foot in the same way as the knee. Cut and fasten the strand
Work 1 more leg the same way.
