INFORMATION FOR PATTERN:

GARTER STITCH (back and forth):
Knit all rows. 1 ridge = knit 2 rows.

GARTER STITCH (in the round - applies to slippers):
1 ridge = 2 rounds. Knit 1 round and purl 1 round.

KNITTING TIP (applies to body):
KNIT 4 STITCHES TWISTED TOGETHER AS FOLLOWS: Knit 4, pass next to last stitch worked over the last so that this stitch is around the last stitch, repeat until all 3 stitches have been passed over (= 3 stitches decreased).
KNIT 4 STITCHES TOGETHER AS FOLLOWS: Knit 4, pass them back on left needle, pass the next to last stitch over the last so that this stitch is around the last stitch, repeat until all 3 stitches have been passed over (= 3 stitches decreased), pass the last stitch worked back on right needle.
KNIT 5 STITCHES TWISTED TOGETHER AS FOLLOWS: Knit 5, pass next to last stitch worked over the last so that this stitch is around the last stitch, repeat until all 4 stitches have been passed over (= 4 stitches decreased).
KNIT 5 STITCHES TOGETHER AS FOLLOWS: Knit 5, pass them back on left needle, pass the next to last stitch over the last so that this stitch is around the last stitch, repeat until all 4 stitches have been passed over (= 4 stitches decreased), pass the last stitch worked back on right needle.

PATTERN:
Body: See diagram A.1. See diagram for correct size.
Slippers: See diagram A.2.
Diagrams show all rows in pattern seen from the right side.

INCREASE TIP (applies to body):
All increases are done from right side. Increase inside 3 stitches in garter stitch in each side of piece.
Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over between 2 stitches, on next round knit yarn over twisted to avoid holes.

DECREASE TIP (applies to body):
All decreases are done from the right side.
Decrease as follows before 3 stitches in garter stitch: Slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over (= 1 stitch decreased).
Decrease as follows after 3 stitches in garter stitch: Knit 2 together (= 1 stitch decreased).

BUTTONHOLES (applies to body):
Decrease for buttonholes on front piece. 1 BUTTONHOLE = knit together third and fourth stitch from edge and make 1 yarn over. Decrease for buttonhole in both sides of piece. On next row knit yarn over = hole.
Decrease for buttonholes when piece measures in total:
<0: 3, 9 and 15 cm
0/1 MONTH: 3, 8, 13 and 19 cm
1/3 MONTHS: 4, 10, 16 and 23 cm
6/9 MONTHS: 4, 9, 14, 19 and 25 cm.
12/18 MONTHS: 5, 10, 15, 21 and 27 cm.
2 YEARS: 6, 12, 18, 24 and 30 cm.
3/4 YEARS: 4, 10, 16, 22, 28 and 34 cm.
----------------------------------------------------------

BODY:
Worked back and forth. First work front piece from the top and down to crotch, then work back piece from the bottom and up and the work the straps. Work every thing in 1 piece.

FRONT PIECE:
Cast on (28) 34-38-44-48 (52-58) stitches on needles size 3 mm with BabyMerino. Work 2 ridges in GARTER STITCH - see explanation above. On last row increase 1 stitch = (29) 35-39-45-49 (53-59) stitches. Then work next row from right side as follows: Work (6) 9-11-12-14 (16-19) stitches in garter stitch, A.1 over the next (17) 17-17-21-21 (21-21) stitches, finish with (6) 9-11-12-14 (16-19) stitches in garter stitch. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When piece measures 1 cm, decrease for 2 buttonholes evenly over the (6) 9-11-12-14 (16-19) stitches in each side of piece (= 4 buttonholes in total). 1 buttonhole = knit 2 together and make 1 yarn over. Button the straps here later.
Repeat A.1 and garter stitch vertically.
When piece measures (3) 3-4-4-5 (6-4) cm, decrease for buttonholes in each side of piece – read BUTTONHOLES!
When piece measures (17) 21-25-27-29 (32-36) cm, decrease for crotch as follows – read DECREASE TIP: (NOTE: Continue with A.1 until number of stitches no longer fit pattern, then work purl over purl and knit over knit over stitches in A.1). Decrease 1 stitch inside 3 stitches in garter stitch in each side of piece (= 2 stitches decreased) every 4th row (5) 4-5-4-6 (6-5) times in total, then every other row (2) 6-7-11-10 (12-16) times in total AT THE SAME TIME on last row decrease 1 stitch = (14) 14-14-14-16 (16-16) stitches. Piece now measures approx. (22) 27-32-35-38 (42-47) cm. Insert 1 marker in the piece. Front piece is finished. NOW MEASURE PIECE FROM HERE!

BACK PIECE:
Now work piece in garter stitch over all stitches until finished measurements.
Now increase as follows - read INCREASE TIP: Increase 1 stitch inside 3 stitches in garter stitch in each side of piece (= 2 stitches increased) every other row (12) 15-17-20-21 (23-26) times in total = (38) 44-48-54-58 (62-68) stitches. Piece now measures (5) 6-7-8-9 (10-11) cm from marker. Then cast on 11 new stitches in each side of piece at the end of the next 2 rows = (60) 66-70-76-80 (84-90) stitches. When piece measures (19) 24-28-30-33 (37-41) cm, cast off 16 stitches for armholes at the beginning of the next 2 rows (i.e. in each side of piece) = (28) 34-38-44-48 (52-58) stitches.
When piece measures (23) 28-33-36-40 (44-49) cm from marker, knit the first (6) 9-11-12-14 (16-19) stitches (= 1 strap), then slip them on a stitch holder, cast off the next (16) 16-16-20-20 (20-20) stitches for neck, knit the last (6) 9-11-12-14 (16-19) stitches (= 1 strap). Continue in garter stitch over the (6) 9-11-12-14 (16-19) stitches until piece measures (29) 34-39-42-47 (51-56) cm from marker (strap measures approx. (6) 6-6-6-7 (7-7) cm). Cast off. Work the other strap the same way.

ASSEMBLY:
Sew buttons on straps. Sew buttons in the middle of the 6 outermost stitches in each side of back piece (= band).
----------------------------------------------------------

SLIPPERS:
Worked in the round on double pointed needles.
Cast on 51-51-51 (51-68) stitches on double pointed needles size 2.5 mm with BabyMerino. Work 2 ridges in GARTER STITCH - see explanation above. Then work A.2 (= 17 stitches) over all stitches (= 3-3-3 (3-4) times in width). REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When A.2 has been worked 3-4-4 (5-5) times vertically piece measures approx. 4-5-5 (6-6) cm. Work 1 round in stocking stitch while adjusting number of stitches to 40-44-48 (52-56). Work rib = knit 1/purl 1 for 2 cm. Then work next round as follows: * Knit 2 together, 1 yarn over *, work from *-*.
On next round slip the first 15-17-18 (20-21) stitches on 1 stitch holder, keep the next 10-10-12 (12-14) stitches on needle and slip the last 15-17-18 (20-21) stitches on 1 stitch holder. Now work back and forth. Work in GARTER STITCH – see explanation above - over stitches on needle for 3½-4-5 (6-7) cm (= over piece).
Pick up 9-11-13 (15-18) stitches on each side of upper foot and slip stitches from stitch holders back on needles = 58-66-74 (82-92) stitches. Insert a marker after 29-33-37 (41-46) stitches (= middle of piece).
Work in garter stitch back and forth from mid back - AT THE SAME TIME after 2-2½-3 (3½-4) cm decrease as follows: Knit 2 together at the beginning and at the end of row and on each side of the middle 2 stitches, repeat this decrease every other row until the section in garter stitch measures 3-4-5 (5-6) cm. Cast off and sew slipper together mid under foot and continue up to eyelet holes mid back – sew in front loops of stitches to avoid a chunky seam. Knit another slipper the same way. Make 2 ties to thread in eyelet row on each slipper if desired as follows:

TIES:
Cut 3 lengths of approx. 1 meter, twine them tightly together, fold them double and they will twine again, tie a knot in each end. Thread the tie in and out through the eyelet holes on slippers.
