Gauge: 15 sts x 27 rows = 10 x 10 cm [4" x 4"] in garter st.

Garter st, when knitting flat: Knit all sts, all rows.

Knitting tip: All decs take place on right side rows.
Dec 1 st for armhole inside 1 edge st by K 2 tog.

Knitting tip: Ribbon has a tendency to twist when knit. For best results, untwist the yarn as you go along.

Front: Cast on 54-60-66 sts. Knit 2 rows stockinette st, keeping 1 st at each side in garter st throughout, then knit garter st over all sts. When the piece measures 6 cm [2 3/8"] cast on 1 new st at each side (edge st for seam allowance) = 56-62-68 sts. When the piece measures 8 cm [3 1/8"] inc 1 st at each side a total of 4-4-4 times, every 4 cm [1.5"] = 64-70-76 sts. When the piece measures 25-26-27 cm [9 7/8" - 10.25" - 10 5/8"] bind off 2 sts at each side for armhole. Then dec 1 st at each side - see knitting tips: 8-10-13 times every other row and then 6-6-5 times every 4 rows. At the same time when the piece measures 36-38-40 cm [14 1/8" - 14 7/8" - 15.75"] put the center 16 sts on a st holder for the neck. Then dec 1 st at each neck edge every other row 3 times = 5-6-7 sts remain on each shoulder. Bind off when the piece measures 42-44-46 cm [16.5" - 17.25" - 18 1/8"].

Back: Cast on and knit the same as the front. Bind off for armhole as on front and knit until the piece measures 36-38-40 cm [14 1/8" - 14 7/8" - 15.75"]. Divide the piece at center back (for neck opening) and knit each side separately. When the piece measures 40-42-44 cm [15.75" - 16.5" - 17.25"] put 10 sts at each edge of neck opening on a st holder. Then dec 1 st at each neck edge on the next row = 5-6-7 sts remain on each shoulder. Bind off when the piece measures 42-44-46 cm [16.5" - 17.25" - 18 1/8"].

Assembly: Sew shoulder seams. Sew side seams, leaving 6 cm [2 3/8"] open at bottom edge for side slit. Pick up approx. 52 to 58 sts (incl. sts from st holders) around the neck. Knit stockinette st for 3 cm [1.25"] - keeping 1 st at each neck opening edge in garter st. Bind off on a wrong side row with K sts.

Button loop: Make a loop on the right edge of back neck opening as follows: 1 sc at neckband, ch 3, then 1 sc 2 cm [0.75"] lower on edge of neck opening. Sew button on left side.
