Gauge: 20 sts x 26 rows on larger needles in pattern = 10 x 10 cm .

Rib: * K 1, P 1 *

Pattern: See charts (1 chart = 1 repeat). The pattern is seen from the right side and is knit entirely in stockinette st. Arrows indicate the starting row for different sizes on the chart for Pattern 1.

Body: The sweater is knit in the round with steeks for armholes. Cast on 130-138 (144-152-160) sts with blue on smaller circular needles; join and place a marker at the join. Knit 5 cm rib. Change to larger circular needles and stockinette st, increasing 30-38 (48-48-48) evenly distributed on the 1st row = 160-176 (192-200-208) sts. When the work measures 7-8 (7-7-7) cm , knit Pattern 1 to finished dimensions - start at the appropriate arrow. When the work measures 21-23 (25-27-27) cm , cast on 4 sts at each side for the armhole steeks (these sts are for cutting up in and are not knitted into the pattern). Front and back each = 65-69 (72-76-80) sts + 4 steek sts at each side. When the work measures 36-39 (43-45-47) cm , bind off the center 28-28 (30-32-32) sts at the front for the neck and knit the work back and forth on the needles. Bind off at each neck edge every other row: 2 sts 1 time, 1 st 2 times. At the same time, when the work measures 39-42 (46-48-50) cm , bind off the center 34-34 (36-38-38) sts at the back for the neck. On the next row dec 1 st at each back neck edge. Bind off when the work measures 40-43 (47-49-51) cm .

Sleeves: Cast on 30-32 (34-36-38) sts on smaller double pointed needles with blue; join and place a marker at the join. Knit 4 cm rib. Change to larger double pointed needles and knit Pattern 3 from the top down - center the pattern on the sleeve, increasing 11-9 (11-13-13) sts evenly distributed on the 1st row = 41-41 (45-49-51) sts. Inc 1 st each side of marker 18-20 (22-20-23) times:
Size 3/4: alternately every other and every 3rd row
Sizes 5/6 + 7/8: every 3rd row
Sizes 9/10 + 11/12: alternately every 3rd and 4th row
= 77-81 (89-89-97) sts. After Pattern 3 continue with blue until the work measures 14.5-17 (15 -17.5-20) cm . Knit Pattern 2 and then continue with blue. When the work measures 21-24 (22-26-30) cm , knit as follows:
Size 3/4 + 5/6: Pattern 3 and then the rest with blue
Sizes 7/8 + 9/10 + 11/12: Pattern 4 and then the rest with blue.
When the work measures 26-29 (32-36-40) cm knit 2 cm reverse stockinette st for a seam allowance over the cut edge on the body. Bind off.

Assembly: Sew a marker thread down into the center of the steek sts at each side. Sew two machine seams around the marker thread, 1st seam = 1/2 st from the marker thread, 2nd seam = 1/2 st from first seam. Cut up for armholes. Sew shoulder seams. Pick up approx. 76-90 sts on smaller double pointed needles with blue around the neck; join and knit 2 cm stockinette st, knit next row as follows: * K 2 tog, yarn over *, 2 cm stockinette st. Bind off and fold the edge over double against the wrong side and sew. Sew the sleeves to the body from the right side as follows: Sew alternately a stitch in the last row of knitting on the sleeve before the seam allowance and a stitch on the body after the machine seam. Turn the sweater inside out and sew the seam allowance from the sleeve over the cut edge on the body by hand.

Sonja Patz 12.12.2014 - 16:13:
