Tips & Help

Thank you for choosing DROPS Design!

We do our best to make our patterns easy to follow.

For that purpose, each of our patterns has specific tutorial videos to help you, which you will find at the bottom of the page.

We have also step-by-step lessons to help you understand some of the techniques we use in our patterns. You'll find them here!

Knitting Tension: 11 sts x 24 rows on needles size 7 mm in garter sts = 10 x 10 cm. 11 x 13 rows on needles size 8 mm in stocking sts = 10 x 10 cm.
Garter sts: K on all rows
Knitting info: See diagram. Cast on at A, knit up to B. Cast on sts from C to A and pick up the A sts. Cast on sts from A to C (the second C). Continue to knit round.

Shrug: Cast on 33-35-37-40-42 sts on needle size 7mm with Vienna or Melody. Knit in Garter sts until the piece measures 19-20-21-22-23 cm. The casting on edge for the back piece = A, the top edge of the back piece = B – see measurement drawing. –Read Knitting info. Knit 1 row changing to needle size 8 mm. Cast on 25-26-27-28-29 sts at the end of row, pick up 33-35-37-40-42 sts along the casting on edge (=A) and cast on 25-26-27-28-29 sts = 116-122-128-136-142 sts in total. Insert 3 marking threads (MT) in each part of the new sts at each side as follows: 1 MT in the beginning of the new sts, 1 MT after 12-13-13-14-14 sts and 1 MT in the end of the new sts = 6 MT in total. Knit round in stocking sts. On the first round dec. 4 sts evenly distributed over B = 112-118-124-132-138 sts. At the same time inc. 1 st each side of each marking thread on every 4th round a total of 5 times. At the same time when the piece knitted in stocking sts measures 7-7-8-9-9 cm inc. 4 sts evenly distributed over B. When all inc. are completed the number of sts = 176-182-188-196-202 sts on round. Cast off when the edge measures 15-15-16-17-17 cm.

Sleeve: Knit the sleeve forth and back. Cast on 26-27-28-30-31 sts on double pointed needles size 7mm with Vienna or Melody. Knit in Garter sts, at the same time on the 2nd row adjust the number of sts to 23-24-25-27-29. When the piece measures 5-5-5-6-6 cm cast off 1 st each side on every other row a total of 7 times = 9-10-11-13-15 sts. Cast off when the piece measures approx. 11-11-11-12-12 cm. Knit one more sleeve.

Assembly: Sew in the sleeves – NB: The armhole is not symmetrical – so make sure the sleeve is distributed evenly on the front and back piece. Begin as follows: Sew the sleeve cap at the top of the armhole (=C – see measurement drawing), then sew the edge of the sleeve to the armhole leaving approx. 15-16-17-18-19 cm for underneath the sleeve.

Crochet edge: Crochet around the edge of the shrug with hook size 10 mm with Vienna or Melody. Crochet as follows: 1 dc, *3 ch, skip approx. 3 cm, 1 dc*, repeat from *-* and finish with 1 ch in the first dc.
