EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN:
-------------------------------------------------------
PATTERN:
See diagrams A.1 and A.2. The pattern is worked in stocking stitch.
KNITTING TIP-1:
To avoid the garment losing its elasticity when working pattern it is important that the strands at the back are not tight. Use a size larger needle when working pattern if the piece becomes tight.
KNITTING TIP-2 (heel):
To strengthen the heel you can work with 2 strands as follows: Use the strand both from the inside and the outside of the ball and work alternately with first one strand then the other. This gives a slightly thicker heel without working with double strand.
DECREASE TIP (evenly spaced):
To work out how to decrease evenly, count the total number of stitches on needle (e.g. 68 stitches), and divide by number of decreases to be made (e.g. 8) = 8,5. In this example, decrease by knitting together alternately each 7th and 8th stitch and 8th and 9th stitch.
HEEL DECREASES:
ROW 1 (= right side): Knit until there are 8-9-9 stitches left, slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch, turn.
ROW 2 (= wrong side): Purl until there are 8-9-9 stitches left, slip 1 stitch as if to purl, purl 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the purled stitch, turn.
ROW 3 (= right side): Knit until there are 7-8-8 stitches left, slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch, turn.
ROW 4 (= wrong side): Purl until there are 7-8-8 stitches left, slip 1 stitch as if to purl, purl 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the purled stitch, turn.
Continue to decrease like this, working until there is 1 stitch less each time before slipping a stitch and until there are 13-13-15 stitches left on the needle.

SOCKS – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE:
The piece is worked in the round, with double pointed needles, top down.
SOCK:
Cast on 68-72-76 stitches with double pointed needles size 2.5 mm and DROPS Fabel, colour red. Knit 1 round. Then work rib in the round (knit 2, purl 2) for 4 cm. Change to colour light grey and work stocking stitch; on the first round decrease 8-2-6 stitches evenly spaced – read DECREASE TIP = 60-70-70 stitches. When the piece measures 5 cm work A.1 in the round (6-7-7 repeats of 10 stitches). Read KNITTING TIP-1. When A.1 has been completed in height, continue with colour light grey.
REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION!
When the piece measures 11-12-13 cm decrease 6-12-8 stitches evenly spaced = 54-58-62 stitches. Work until the piece measures 13-14-15 cm.
Now work the heel as follows:
Keep the first 13-14-15 stitches on the needle, place the next 27-29-31 stitches on 1 thread (without working them) and keep the last 14-15-16 stitches on the needle = 27-29-31 heel stitches.
Read KNITTING TIP-2 and work stocking stitch back and forth over the heel stitches for 5-5½-6 cm. Insert 1 marker in the middle of the last row; the marker is used to measure the foot-length.
Work HEEL DECREASES – read description above. After the heel decreases, work as follows: Knit the 13-13-15 heel stitches, knit up 13-14-16 stitches along the side of the heel, knit the 27-29-31 stitches from the thread (top of foot) and knit up 13-14-16 stitches along the other side of the heel = 66-70-78 stitches.
Continue to the middle of the heel. The round now starts here.
Insert 1 marker on each side of the 27-29-31 stitches on top of the foot.
Work stocking stitch in the round – AT THE SAME TIME decrease on each side of the 27-29-31 stitches on top of the foot as follows: Knit together the last 2 stitches before the 27-29-31 stitches and knit twisted together the first 2 stitches after the 27-29-31 stitches (= 2 stitches decreased). Decrease like this every 2nd round a total of 8-5-9 times = 50-60-60 stitches.
Continue working until the foot measures 13-14-16 cm from the heel marker - measured under the foot.
Now work A.2 over all stitches, (start at the arrow for sizes 38/40 and 41/43 to get a heart on top of the foot). Change to colour red and work until the foot measures 18-19-21 cm (approx. 4-5-6 cm left; try the sock on and work to desired length).
Insert 1 marker on each side with 25-30-30 stitches both on top of and underneath the foot. Work stocking stitch and decrease for the toe on each side of both markers as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker sits between these 2 stitches), knit 2 twisted together. Repeat the decrease at the other marker (= 4 stitches decreased on the round).
Decrease like this every 2nd round a total of 5-6-9 times, then every round 5-6-3 times = 10-12-12 stitches.
On the next round knit all stitches together 2 and 2 = 5-6-6 stitches. Cut the strand, pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well. The foot measures approx. 22-24-27 cm from the heel marker.
Work the other sock in the same way.
