Knitting tension: 24 sts x 32 rows stocking sts = 10 x 10 cm Pattern: * K3 rounds, P3 rounds *, repeat from *-*. Stripes: 1 stripe = 6 rounds (i.e. K3 rounds and P 3 rounds). Change colour as follows: * 2 stripes dark red mix, 1 stripe orange mix, 1 stripe dark red mix, 1 stripe red, 2 stripes orange mix, 1 stripe dark red mix, 2 stripes red *, Repeat from *-* until complete measurement. NOTE: Do not cut thread at each strip, pull it up along and ensure it is not too tight when piece is stretched out. Hat: Knit in the round on circular needles. Cast on 110 sts loosely on small circular needle size 3 mm with dark red mix. P1 round, K1 round and P1 round. Then continue with pattern and strips as explained above. When piece measures approx 14 cm (measure when piece is lying flat) start dec. Dec on 2nd K round in each strip, i.e. every 6th round. Dec 11 sts evenly on every 6th rounds 8 times in total – change to double pointed needles, when there are too few sts for circular needle. After last dec K1 round (= 3rd K round in this stripe) and then K1 round where all sts are knit tog 2 by 2 (i.e. do not P any rounds in this stripe) = 11 sts left on needle. Cut yarn, pull through remaining sts, pull tog and sew away well. Left mitten: Knit in the round on double pointed needles. Cast on 48 sts with dark red mix on double pointed needles size 3 mm. P1 round, K1 round and P1 round. Continue with pattern and stripes as explained above. When piece measures approx 13 cm (adjust after 1 whole stripe) complete mitten with dark red mix as follows: K1 round at the same time dec 4 sts evenly = 44 sts. Then knit 2 cm Rib = K1 / P1. Continue in stocking sts until completed measurement – measure completed piece from here! After 2 rounds stocking sts start inc for thumb wedge. Inc 1 sts on each side of second last sts on round – to inc: yo, to avoid holes at inc ensure to knit into back of sts on next round. Inc on every 4th round 5 times in total = 11 thumb sts and 54sts in total. When piece measures 6 cm slip 11 thumb sts onto 1 thread or stitch holder. Cast on 3 new sts behind thumb sts = 46 sts. Continue in stocking sts until piece measures 9.5 cm. Now slip first and last 18 sts on round onto 1 thread or stitch holder = 10 sts left on row. Little finger: Distribute 10 sts on 3 double pointed needles and cast on 2 new sts towards hand = 12 sts. Knit approx 5.5 cm stocking sts, then knit all sts tog 2 by 2. Cut yarn and pull through remaining sts, pull tog. Hand: Slip 36 sts on thread or stitch holder back on needle, gather up 3 sts towards little finger = 39 sts. Knit 3 rounds stocking sts. Keep 3 sts that were cast on for little finger + 5 sts on each side of these needles. Slip remaining 13 from top of hand onto thread and 13 sts from bottom of hand onto another thread or stitch holder. Ring finger: Cast on 1 additional sts to sts already on needle towards sts on thread or stitch holder = 14 sts. Knit approx 7 cm stocking sts, then knit all sts tog 2 by 2. Cut yarn and pull through remaining sts, pull tog. Middle finger: Slip 6-7 sts from each thread back on needle, pick up another 2 sts up towards ring finger and cast on 1 new sts towards sts on threads or stitch holders = 15 sts. Knit approx 8 cm stocking sts, then knit all sts tog 2 by 2. Cut yarn and pull through remaining sts, pull tog. Index finger: Slip remaining 7 sts from each thread or stitch holder back on needle, pick up a further 2 sts towards middle finger = 16 sts. Knit stocking sts approx 7 cm, then knit all sts tog 2 by 2. Cut thread and pull through the remaining sts, pull tog. Thumb: Slip sts from thread onto needle and pick up 5 additional sts on WS edge of thumb sts = 16 sts. Knit approx 5.5 cm stocking sts then knit all sts tog 2 by 2. Cut yarn and pull through remaining sts, pull tog. Right mitten: Knit like left, but reversed, i.e. inc for thumb on each side of 2nd sts of round in stead of second last sts. |
