Hello Diane, If I want to shorten this scarf, do I just reduce the number of times I repeat rows 3 and 4, and decrease two stitches rather than one stitch each time? Or would it be better to cast on fewer stitches to begin with? Thank you for your creativity and helpfulness.
18.06.2021 - 22:06DROPS Design answered:
Dear Elanie, please understand that we cannot modify our patterns for each individual request. However, decreasing 2 stitches instead of one would make the angle much stronger, distorting the shape of the shawl. So if you must make it differently, try casting ott fewer stitches. Happy Stitching!

Thank you - I think I'm not clear about how to do a yarn over which doesn't increase the number of stitches. How do you knit it? If I take the yarn over every other stitch, then knit each yarn over on the next row, that doubles the number of stitches. So I'm not understanding something about the yarn overs? Thanks.
17.08.2020 - 09:54DROPS Design answered:
Dear Maxine, on row 1 you increase 2 sts (= 1 yarn over on each side of the marker) and decrease 1 stitch at the end of same row = you increase only 1 stitch (= 164 + 2 st - 1 st = 165 sts). On row 2, you dec 1 st = 165-1= 164 sts. Then on row 3 you increase 2 sts (= 1 yarn onver on each side of the marker) and decrease 1 st at the end of the row =1 st increased (= 164 + 2 sts - 1 = 165 sts), on next row you decrease 1 stitch = 165-1= 164 sts. You have again the same number of sts. Repeat row 3 and 4 = number of sts remain the same after every time you worked row 4. Happy knitting!

I think I'm being very slow! After Row 1, I've got double the number of stitches to knit for row 2. That's 328. So as I go through row 3 and 4 again, I'm doubling again? Do I knit each yarn over on row 4, or drop it? That might make more sense...I've not understood...
15.08.2020 - 23:16DROPS Design answered:
Dear Maxine, you increaes only 2 sts on row 1 = 1 stitch on each side of the marker - on row 2 you decrease 1 stitch at the beg of the row, on row 3 you increase 2 sts = 1 stitch on each side of the marker + decrease 1 stitch at the end of the row - on row 4 you decrease 1 stitch at the beg of the row. All yarn overs are knitted into front of loop to male holes. You repeat then row 3 (= 2 yarn overs + 1 dec = 1 stitch increased) and 4 (= 1 stitch decreased). Happy knitting!
