For the front piece, after binding off 20 sts for neck, each shoulder should have 41 sts remaining, right? If this is true, how do I end up with 36 sts to bind off when finishing each shoulder? Once each shoulder is finished, shouldn’t there be 32 sts left to bind off instead? Please tell me what to do correctly if the error is with me. Thank you.
17.12.2023 - 01:22DROPS Design answered:
Dear April, in the front piece, you bind off the 20 central stitches before finishing the increases at the sides (you should have approx. 2 increases left after the central stitches are bound off). So you continue increasing as in the back piece and at the same time cast off for the shoulders as in the back piece. Since you increase as many stitches as in the back piece, you could say that you would have a total of 110 stitches - 20 stitches for the neck - 9 stitches cast off on each side so you have 72 stitches left, or 36 stitches for each shoulder. Happy knitting!

GARTER ST (back and forth on needle): K all rows. INCREASE TIP: Inc 1 st by making 1 YO. On next row K YO twisted (i.e. work in the back loop of st instead of front) to avoid holes. -------------------------------------------------------- BODY: Worked in the round on circular needle. Cast on 160-172-184-204-224-244 sts with Paris on circular needle size 4 mm. Work rib as follows: * K 2, P 2 *, repeat from *-*. When piece measures 6-6-6-8-8-8 cm, switch to circular needle size 5 mm and continue in stocking st, while AT THE SAME TIME on 1st round dec 12-12-12-16-16-16 sts evenly = 148-160-172-188-208-228 sts. Insert a marker at beg of round and a marker after 74-80-86-94-104-114 sts (these marks the sides). REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When piece measures 14-14-14-15-15-15 cm, inc 1 st on each side of each marker (= 4 new sts per inc) - READ INCREASE TIP. Repeat inc every 8-8-8-7-7-7 cm a total of 4-4-4-5-5-5 times = 164-176-188-208-228-248 sts. Continue to work until piece measures 44-45-46-47-48-49 cm. Now divide the piece at the markers and finish each part separately. BACK PIECE: = 82-88-94-104-114-124 sts. Cast on 5 new sts at the end of the next two rows = 92-98-104-114-124-134 sts. Continue in stocking st but work the outermost 5 sts in each side (= edge st on each sleeve) in Garter st until finished measurements - See explanation above - at the same time inc for sleeves as follows: Size S, M, L: Inc 1 st inside the outermost 5 sts in garter st in each side after 1½ cm, repeat inc every 1½ cm a total of 9-8-7 times. Size XL, XXL, XXXL: Inc 1 st inside the outermost 5 sts in garter st in each side after 2½ cm, repeat inc every 2½ cm a total of 5-4-3 times. All sizes = 110-114-118-124-132-140 sts. When piece measures 59-61-63-65-67-69 cm, cast off the middle 28-30-32-34-36-36 sts for neck and finish each shoulder separately. Cast off at the beg of every row from neck as follows: 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 1 time = 36-37-38-40-43-47 sts remain on shoulder. Cast off when piece measures 62-64-66-68-70-72 cm. FRONT PIECE: = 82-88-94-104-114-124 sts. Work as on back piece until piece measures 54-56-58-60-62-64 cm. Now cast off the middle 20-22-24-26-28-28 sts for neck and finish each shoulder separately. Cast off at the beg of every row from neck as follows: 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 1 time, 1 st 3 times, then 1 st after 4 rows = 36-37-38-40-43-47 sts remain for shoulder. Cast off when piece measures 62-64-66-68-70-72 cm. ASSEMBLY: Sew underarm seams inside 1 edge st. Sew the shoulder seams tog. ROLL NECK: Knit up approx. 100 to 120 sts around the neck with Paris on double pointed needles size 4 mm. Work stocking st in the round for approx. 4 cm, loosely cast off all sts. CROCHET 8 LEAF FLOWER IN 3 LAYERS: Start with 1st layer in the middle of the flower. Then work 2nd and 3rd layer on the back of 1st layer. Work with Paris on hook size 4 mm as follows: Work 6 ch and form a ring with 1 sl st in first ch. 1ST LAYER: Round 1: 4 ch, * 1 tr in ch-ring, 1 ch *, repeat from *-* a total of 7 times. Finish with 1 sl st in third ch from beg of round = 8 loops. Round 2: Work as follows in every loop: 1 dc, 5 ch. Finish with 1 sl st in first dc from beg of round = 8 ch-loops (= 8 leaves). 2ND LAYER: Round 3: 1 ch, fold the first ch-loop from 2nd round towards you, work 1 dc in 1st tr from 1st round, 4 ch. * Fold next ch-loop from 2nd round towards you, work 1 dc in next tr from 1st round, 4 ch *, repeat from *-* a total of 7 times. Finish with 1 sl st in first dc from beg of round = 8 ch-loops. Round 4: Work every ch-loop from 3rd round as follows: 1 dc, 3 tr, 1 dc. Finish with 1 sl st in first dc from beg of round = 8 leaves. Turn piece, work next round on the back of the flower. 3RD LAYER: Round 5: 1 ch, work 1 dc at the bottom of the 2nd tr on the first leaf from 4th round (i.e. in the middle of leaf's underside), 4 ch. * Work 1 dc at the bottom of 2nd tr on next leaf from 4th round, 4 ch *, repeat from *-* a total of 7 times. Finish with 1 sl st in first dc from beg of round = 8 ch-loops. Turn piece, work next round on the front of the flower. Round 6: Work every ch-loop from 5th round as follows: 1 dc, 2 tr, 1 dtr, 2 tr, 1 dc. Finish with 1 sl st in first dc from beg of round = 8 leaves. Cut and fasten the thread. CROCHET 8 LEAF FLOWER IN 2 LAYERS: Work as flower in 3 layers but only 1st-4th round. Work a total of 2 flowers like this. ASSEMBLY: Sew the flowers along the neck on one side of the shoulder. |
