What does "p the mid 17 stitches" mean? Purl?

Dear Sharon, that's correct, purl the middle 17 sts from RS and work the other sts as before. Happy knitting!

Can you explain how you cast on 51 stitches (back) and increase 1 stitch on each side and get 55 stitches? Shouldn't this be 53 stitches?
04.11.2014 - 16:40DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Ford, you inc 1 st each side when piece measures 10 and inc again 1 st each side when piece measures 15 cm, so that you inc a total of 4 sts. 51 + 4 = 55 sts. Happy knitting!

Knitting Tension: 10 sts in stocking sts = 10 cm in the width Decreasing tips ( apply to armhole and neck): Dec. inside the 2 edge sts in garter sts. All decreases are done from the RS. Dec. as follows after 2 sts in garter sts: Slip a st as if to knit, K1, psso. Dec. as follows before 2 sts in garter sts: K2 tog. Increasing tips: Inc inside 2 sts in garter sts as follows: Make a yo. On the returning row twist and knit the yo to avoid a hole. New sts are knitted in stocking sts. Garter sts: Knit on all rows. Back piece: Cast on 38-42-46-51-57 sts on needles size 8 mm in Highlander. Knit 2 rows of garter sts and continue in stocking sts. When the piece measures 10 and 15 cm inc 1 st each side = 42-46-50-55-61 sts. When the piece measures 19-21-22-24-25 cm knit 2 rows of garter sts over the outermost 4-5-6-7-8 sts each side (continue to knit the other sts in stocking sts). On the next row cast off the outermost 2-3-4-5-6 sts each side for the armhole. Continue to dec 1 st each side for the armhole on every other row – read decreasing tips: a total of 1-2-2-3-4 times: 36-36-38-39-41 sts. Continue with 2 sts in garter sts each side. When the piece measures 35 and 42 cm inc 1 st each side for a wide shoulder – see increasing tips. At the same time when the piece measures 40-42-44-46-48 cm P the centre 14-14-16-17-17 sts from the RS and on the following row cast off the centre 10-10-12-13-13 sts for neck. Then dec 1 more st each side towards the neck – see decreasing tips = 14-14-14-14-15 sts left on each shoulder. Continue in stocking sts and 2 sts of garter sts towards each neck side and cast off remaining sts when the piece measures 44-46-48-50-52 cm. Right front: Cast on 17-19-20-23-26 sts on needles size 8 mm in Highlander. Knit 2 rows of garter sts and continue in stocking sts with 2 front edge sts towards mid front in garter sts. When piece measures 10 and 15 cm inc 1 st each side as done for the back = 19-21-22-25-28 sts. When piece measures 19-21-22-24-25 cm knit 2 rows of garter sts over the outermost 4-5-6-7-8 sts at the side (continue to knit the other sts in stocking sts). On the next row cast off the outer most 2-3-4-5-6 sts at the side for the armhole. Continue to dec as done for the back piece = 16-16-16-17-18 sts. At the same time when the piece measures 28-29-30-31-32 cm dec 1 st for the neck at the centre front on every other row – see decreasing tips: a total of 4-4-4-5-5 times. At the same time when the piece measures 32 and 42 cm inc at the side for the wide shoulder as done for the back piece. When all dec and inc are completed = 14-14-14-14-15 sts left on row. Continue in stocking sts with 2 sts of garter sts each side until piece measures 44-46-48-50-52 cm and cast off. Left front: Cast on and knit as right front but reverse. Assembly: Sew the shoulder seams. Sew the side seams in the outer part of the outermost st to avoid a chunky seam. Crochet edge: Crochet with hook size 10 in Puddel round the opening of the sleeveless cardigan as well as round the armholes as follows: 1st round: from the WS: 1 dc in the first st, *4 ch, skip 2 cm, 1 dc*, repeat from *-* and finish with a sl st in the 1st dc from beginning of round. 2nd round: from the RS: Crochet this round into the sleeveless cardigan too, and not into the 1st round. 1 dc in between the 2 dc from previous round, *3 ch, skip 2 cm, 1 dc in between the following 2 dc from previous round*, repeat from *-* and finish with a sl st in the 1st dc on round. |
