---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- ELEVATION: To make the jumper higher in the back of neck when working in the round for round yoke, knit an elevation. Skip this paragraph if you do not want an elevation. Begin from right side and knit until 12-12-13-13-14-14-15 stitches remain before marker mid front, turn piece – read KNITTING TIP-1 and purl until 12-12-13-13-14-14-15 stitches remain before marker mid front in the other side. * Turn piece and knit until 10-10-11-11-12-12-13 stitches remain before previous turn, turn piece and purl until 10-10-11-11-12-12-13 stitches remain before previous turn in the other side *, work from *-* 2 more times. Turn piece and knit back until beginning of round at right should at the back. Then work yoke in the round as explained in pattern. KNITTING TIP-1: When working short rows there will be a small hole when turning the piece - the hole can be closed by tightening the yarn or using the technique German Short Rows as follows: Slip first stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece. Place strand over right needle and tighten well at the back (should lead to two loops on needle). Work these loops together on next row. KNITTING TIP-2: To avoid the knitting tension to tighten when working pattern, it is important not to tighten the strands on back side of piece. Use a larger needle size when working pattern try needed. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 and A.2. Work the entire pattern in stocking stitch. Choose diagram for desired size (applies to A.2). INCREASE TIP: To calculate how to increase evenly, use the total number of stitches on row (e.g. 108 stitches) and divide stitches by number of increases to be done (e.g. 14) = 7.7. In this example increase in approx. every 8th stitch - increase as follows: This symmetrical increase gives 1 new stitch. Follow point 1 - 4 below: 1. Hold the yarn behind the piece. Pass the first stitch on left needle loosely on to right needle purlwise. 2. Insert left needle behind the slipped stitch and in between the slipped stitch and the next stitch on right needle. 3. Make a yarn over with yarn around right needle and pull yarn over through stitch to get 1 new stitch on right needle. 4. Drop front loop of stitch off left needle and then knit 1 in front part of the other loop of stitch. 1 stitch has been increased. SLEEVE TIP: When picking up stitches mid under sleeve, there will be a small hole in the transition between stitches on body and sleeves. The holes can be closed by picking up the strand between two stitches - work this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve to close the hole. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of marker thread as follows: Work until 4 stitches remain before marker thread and knit 2 together, knit 4 (marker thread is in the middle of these 4 stitches), slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked (= 2 stitches decreased). ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: In this pattern needles of different length have been used, begin with fitting length for number of stitches and switch as needed. Work neck edge and yoke in the round on circular needle from right shoulder at the back, work top down with increases for round yoke. When yoke is done, divide piece for body and sleeves. Work body downwards in the round on circular needle while putting the sleeves aside. Then work sleeves downwards in the round on needle. NECK EDGE: Cast on 108-112-116-120-126-130-134 stitches with circular needle size 2.5 mm with colour Light Beige in DROPS Merino Extra Fine or colour Light Oak in DROPS Karisma, you can use Italian cast-on. Then work rib in the round (= knit 1 and purl 1) for 3-3-3½-3½-4-4-4½ cm. Beginning of round is at right shoulder at the back. Insert 1 marker at the beginning of round and insert 1 marker after the first 36-37-38-40-42-43-45 stitches on round (= approx. mid front), measure piece from the marker mid front. YOKE: Switch to circular needle size 3.5 mm, work 1 round in stocking stitch while increasing 14-18-20-22-24-28-32 stitches evenly - read INCREASE TIP = 122-130-136-142-150-158-166 stitches (marker mid front should now be after the first 41-43-45-47-50-53-55 stitches on round). Now work an ELEVATION at the back of neck - read explanation above. When elevation has been worked, continue the yoke as explained below. If you do not want an elevation, continue as explained below. Work in stocking stitch in the round. Remember to follow the knitting tension! When yoke measures 2½-2½-2½-3-3-4-4 cm from marker, increase 32-36-38-40-42-44-46 stitches evenly – remember INCREASE TIP= 154-166-174-182-192-202-212 stitches. When yoke measures 5-5-5-6-6-7-7 cm from marker, increase 34-34-38-38-40-42-44 stitches evenly = 188-200-212-220-232-244-256 stitches. Continue in stocking stitch until piece measures 6-6-6-7-7-8-8 cm from marker. Now work PATTERN – see explanation above, read KNITTING TIP-2 and work as follows: Work A.1 47-50-53-55-58-61-64 times in total in the round on yoke. Continue pattern like this and increase stitches as shown in diagram - increase in addition stitches evenly on every round marked with arrow in A.1 - remember INCREASE TIP: Arrow-1: Increase 29-31-33-39-41-43-45 stitches evenly = 217-231-245-259-273-287-301 stitches. Then work A.1 31-33-35-37-39-41-43 times in total in the round on yoke. Continue pattern and increase as shown in A.1. After last increase (before arrow-2) there are 279-297-315-333-351-369-387 stitches on needle. Arrow-2: Increase 21-23-25-27-29-31-33 stitches evenly = 300-320-340-360-380-400-420 stitches. Then work A.2 in the round on yoke. Continue pattern like this and increase stitches evenly on every round marked with arrow in A.2: Arrow-3: Increase 12-20-20-20-24-24-24 stitches evenly = 312-340-360-380-404-424-444 stitches. Arrow-4: Increase 8-12-8-4-12-8-4 stitches evenly = 320-352-368-384-416-432-448 stitches. Continue with A.2 - repeat the diagram vertically without increases. When yoke measures 21-22-24-25-25-27-29 cm from marker mid front, , divide piece for body and sleeves. Continue A.2 on body and sleeves but make sure that the increase in A.2 is done before dividing the piece. DIVIDING FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: AT THE SAME TIME as next round is worked divide yoke for body and sleeves as follows: Slip the first 64-68-72-76-80-80-80 stitches on a thread for sleeve, cast on 8-8-12-16-16-20-24 new stitches on needle (= in the side mid under sleeve), work 96-108-112-116-128-136-144 stitches as before (= front piece), slip the next 64-68-72-76-80-80-80 stitches on a thread for sleeve, cast on 8-8-12-16-16-20-24 new stitches on needle (= in the side mid under sleeve) and work the last 96-108-112-116-128-136-144 stitches as before (= back piece). Finish body and sleeves separately. Cut the yarn. BODY: = 208-232-248-264-288-312-336 stitches. Insert 1 marker in one side of piece (= in the middle of the 8-8-12-16-16-20-24 stitches that were cast on under sleeve). Begin the round at the marker and continue pattern from yoke, i.e. work A.2 in the round. Work until piece measures approx. 50-52-54-56-56-58-60 cm from marker mid front - adjust to finish after 3rd, 13th or 23rd round in A.2. Work in stocking stitch with colour Light Beige / Light Oak. Work until piece measures 53-55-57-59-59-61-63 cm from marker mid front. Switch to circular needles size 2.5 mm, work rib (= knit 1 and purl 1) while AT THE SAME TIME increasing 40-48-48-52-56-62-66 stitches evenly on 1st round = 248-280-296-316-344-374-402 stitches. When rib measures 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 cm, cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl or use Italian cast-off. Jumper measures 57-59-61-63-64-66-68 cm from marker mid front and approx. 62-64-66-68-70-72-74 cm from the top of shoulder. SLEEVES: Slip 64-68-72-76-80-80-80 sleeve stitches from one thread on to circular needle size 3.5 mm and pick in addition up 1 stitch in each of the 8-8-12-16-16-20-24 stitches cast on under sleeve - read SLEEVE TIP = 72-76-84-92-96-100-104 stitches. Insert 1 marker thread in the middle of the 8-8-12-16-16-20-24 new stitches under sleeve - the round begins at the marker thread and is worked in the round. Continue pattern from yoke over stitches on sleeve. AT THE SAME TIME when 1 round has been worked after division, decrease mid under sleeve – read DECREASE TIP and decrease as follows: Decrease 2 stitches every other round 2-2-2-2-3-3-3 times, then decrease 2 stitches every 3-3-7-4½-4½-3½-3½ cm 2-4-6-10-9-11-11 times = 64-64-68-68-72-72-76 stitches on needle. Work pattern until sleeve measures approx. 43-43-42-41-41-40-39 cm from division, adjust to finish after 3rd, 13th or 23rd round in A.2. Then work in stocking stitch with colour Light Beige / Light Oak until sleeve measures 46-46-45-44-44-43-42 cm from division. Switch to double pointed needles size 2.5 mm and work rib (= knit 1 and purl 1) while AT THE SAME TIME increasing 8-8-8-8-10-10-10 stitches evenly on 1st round = 72-72-76-76-82-82-86 stitches. When rib measures 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 cm, cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl or use Italian cast-off. Sleeve measures approx. 50-50-49-48-48-48-47 cm from division. |
