---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- BUTTONHOLES: Decrease for buttonholes on left shoulder on front piece (when garment is worn), this is done as follows: Knit 2 together, make 1 yarn over (= 1 buttonhole). KNITTING TIP: When working short row there will be a small hole when turning the piece - the hole can be closed by tightening the yarn or using the technique German Short Rows as follows: Slip first stitch purlwise. Place strand over right needle and tighten well at the back (should lead to two loops on needle). Work these loops together on next row. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of marker thread as follows: Work until 3 stitches remain before marker thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker thread is in the middle of these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked (= 2 stitches decreased). ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: In this pattern needles of different length have been used, begin with fitting length for number of stitches and switch as needed. Piece is worked in the round on circular needle, from the bottom and up to armholes. Divide the piece for front piece and back piece and finish each part separately back and forth. Sew the shoulder seams. Pick up stitches for sleeves around the armholes. Then work sleeves downwards in the round on needle. Finish by picking up stitches along the neck and work a neck edge back and forth. BODY: Cast on 138-148-158-166-174-186 stitches on circular needle size 3 mm with DROPS Cotton Merino. Work rib (= knit 1/purl 1) for 1-1-1-2-2-2 cm. Insert 1 marker thread at beginning of round. Switch to circular needle size 4 mm, and work in stocking stitch while AT THE SAME TIME decreasing 12-14-16-16-16-16 stitches evenly on first round = 126-134-142-150-158-170 stitches. Work until piece measures 16-18-20-22-24-25 cm from cast-on edge. Remember to follow the knitting tension! Now divide the piece for front piece and back piece. DIVIDING FOR ARMHOLES: On next round divide piece for front piece and back piece, and work round as follows: Cast off the first 4-4-4-4-4-6 stitches on round for armhole, work 59-63-67-71-75-79 stitches (= front piece), cast off the next 4-4-4-4-4-6 stitches for armhole, work 59-63-67-71-75-79 stitches (= back piece). Now work front piece and back piece back and forth on needle until finished measurements. BACK PIECE: = 59-63-67-71-75-79 stitches. Work in stocking stitch back and forth and while AT THE SAME TIME casting off 1 stitch at the beginning of every row 4 times in total in each side = 51-55-59-63-67-71 stitches. When piece measures 26-29-32-35-38-40 cm from cast-on edge, cast off the middle 23-25-27-29-29-31 stitches for neck and finish each shoulder separately. SHOULDER: Now cast off 1 stitch for neck on next row = 13-14-15-16-18-19 stitches remain on each shoulder. Cast off when piece measures 28-31-34-37-40-42 cm - on right shoulder cast off by knitting, on left shoulder cast off by working every other stitch knit and purl. FRONT PIECE: = 59-63-67-71-75-79 stitches. Work as back piece until piece measures 24-26-29-31-34-35 cm = 51-55-59-63-67-71 stitches. Now slip the middle 15-15-17-19-19-19 stitches on a thread for neck, and finish each shoulder separately. RIGHT SHOULDER: Now cast off stitches for neck on every other row as follows: Cast off 2 stitches 1 time, then cast off 1 stitch 3-4-4-4-4-5 times = 13-14-15-16-18-19 stitches remain on shoulder. Cast off when piece measures 28-31-34-37-40-42 cm. LEFT SHOULDER: Work as right shoulder until piece measures 28-31-34-37-40-42 cm but instead of casting off work a band with buttonholes, begin from right side as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Work rib (= purl 1/knit 1) the entire row. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Knit over knit and purl over purl. ROW 3 (= right side): Work rib as before while AT THE SAME TIME making 2 BUTTONHOLES in total - read explanation above, make first buttonhole after 3 stitches, then make next buttonhole when 6-6-7-7-8-9 stitches remain on row. ROW 4 (= wrong side): Work rib as before. Continue with rib until piece measures 2-2-2-3-3-3 cm, piece measures 30-33-36-40-43-45 cm from cast-on edge. Cast off stitches with knit over knit and purl over purl. ASSEMBLY-1: Sew shoulder seams on right shoulder. Place left shoulder on front piece over left shoulder on back piece so that the front piece overlaps 2-2-2-3-3-3 cm over the shoulder - the rib is later buttoned over the shoulder on back piece. Sew together only in outermost stitch along armhole to pick up stitches for sleeve through both front piece and back piece at the top of sleeve. SLEEVES: Sleeve is worked from the armhole and down. Place piece flat and insert 1 marker at the top of armhole = mid on top shoulder (NOTE! Mid on top of left shoulder is in the transition between stocking stitch and rib). Pick up stitches around armhole, use circular needle size 3 mm, begin in the middle of the stitches cast off under sleeve - pick up 46-50-54-58-62-66 stitches - adjust to pick up same number of stitches on each side of marker along armhole. Switch to circular needle size 4 mm. Now work in stocking stitch back and forth with short rows over sleeve cap to get a better shape on sleeve, begin round mid under sleeve as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Work 4 stitches past marker on top of shoulder, turn piece – read KNITTING TIP. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Work 4 stitches past marker, turn piece. ROW 3 (= right side): Work 2-2-2-3-3-3 stitches past where the previous turn was, turn piece. ROW 4 (= wrong side): Work 2-2-2-3-3-3 stitches past where the previous turn was, turn piece. Repeat ROWS 3 and 4. Work until 16 turns have been done in total (= 8 times in each side and last row is worked from wrong side). AFTER LAST TURN: The last time 4th row is worked finish row by turning piece, then work from right side until beginning of round (mid under sleeve). Insert 1 marker thread mid under sleeve, this is used when decreasing stitches under sleeve. Move marker thread upwards when working. Now work in the round in stocking stitch over all stitches while AT THE SAME TIME decreasing under sleeve, read DECREASE TIP and decrease like this: When sleeve measures 1 cm mid under sleeve, decrease 2 stitches 1-2-2-3-3-3 times on every other round, then decrease 2 stitches every 2-2-1-1-1-1 cm 1-1-2-2-3-4 times in total = 42-44-46-48-50-52 stitches on row. Work until sleeve measures 11-12-13-13-14-15 cm from mid on top shoulder. Switch to double pointed needles size 3 mm and work rib (= knit 1/purl 1). When rib measures 1-1-1-2-2-2 cm cast off. Sleeve measures approx. 12-13-14-15-16-17 cm from mid on top of shoulder. NECK EDGE: Use circular needle size 3 mm and pick up stitches along the neck from right side as follows: Begin at the edge towards the neck on button band on left front piece, pick up approx. 75-83-89-99-99-107 stitches - number of stitches must be divisible by 2 + 1. Work rib (= purl 1/knit 1) back and forth for 1 cm, on next row from right side make 1 buttonhole as follows: Work 2 stitches, knit 2 together, make 1 yarn over, work the rest of row as before. Continue rib as before until piece measures 2-2-2-3-3-3 cm. Cast off. ASSEMBLY-2: Sew on 3 buttons, 2 button on left shoulder approx. 1 cm down on back piece so that left shoulder from front piece can be buttoned over shoulder as well as 1 button in the neck edge. |
