Dear Jan, you decrease those stitches in that first knit round. So you are decreasing as you knit. Remember that you are working in the round, so you work always on the right side. Happy knitting!

How can I make this top a little longer?
17.03.2025 - 15:22DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Deoca, as there are some waist shaping on this top you might find inspiration from a similar pattern, same tension, with the requested length. See some singlet patterns with the same tension here. Happy knitting!

Hi! I am confused about the neckline section. I'm knitting size S and starting the neckline with 58 stitches. Should I knit 24, place 10 on a marker, then knit 24? When do I decrease? Thanks for helping!
14.07.2024 - 03:04DROPS Design answered:
Dear Emma, if you have 58 stitches, then yes, knit 24, put 10 on a stitch-holder, and knit 24. Do this for the front when the piece is 35 cm (for size S). Happy Knitting!

Dear Maria, yes, you can, and HERE is a tutorial that might help you do that. Happy Knitting!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- DECREASE TIP (for sides): Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 4 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 4 (marker-thread sits between these 4 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch. INCREASE TIP (for sides): Start 2 stitches before marker-thread, make 1 yarn over, knit 4 (marker-thread sits between these 4 stitches), make 1 yarn over. On the next round work the yarn overs as follows: BEFORE MARKER: Slip yarn over from right needle, replace it on left needle the other way around (insert left needle through the back when replacing it). Knit the front loop. No hole. AFTER MARKER: Knit the back loop. No hole Work the new stitches in stocking stitch. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- TOP - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The pattern uses both long and short circular needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The piece is worked in the round with circular needle, bottom up as far as the armholes, divided and the back and front pieces finished separately back and forth. The shoulder seams are joined and stitches knitted up around each armhole for sleeve-edges. The neck is worked in the round to finish. BODY: Cast on 212-232-252-278-314-344 stitches with circular needle size 3 mm and DROPS Belle. Work rib in the round (knit 1, purl 1) for 4 cm. Change to circular needle size 4 mm. Knit 1 round and decrease 36-40-40-46-54-60 stitches evenly spaced = 176-192-212-232-260-284 stitches. Insert 1 marker-thread at the beginning of the round and 1 marker-thread after 88-96-106-116-130-142 stitches (= sides). You should have equal numbers of stitches on the front and back pieces. Allow the marker-threads to follow your work onwards, they are used when decreasing and increasing each side. Work stocking stitch. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When the body measures 8 cm, begin decreasing in each side - read DECREASE TIP. Decrease a total of 2-2-2-2-3-3 times every 4-4-4½-4½-3½-3½ cm = 168-184-204-224-248-272 stitches. 4-4-4½-4½-3½-3½ cm after the last decrease, begin to increase in each side - read INCREASE TIP. Increase a total of 2-2-2-2-3-3 times every 4-4-4½-4½-3½-3½ cm = 176-192-212-232-260-284 stitches. Continue with stocking stitch until the body measures 25-26-27-28-29-30 cm. On the next round cast off for the armholes as follows: Start 4-5-6-7-8-9 stitches before the first marker-thread, cast off 8-10-12-14-16-18 stitches, knit 80-86-94-102-114-124 (= back piece), cast off 8-10-12-14-16-18 stitches, knit 80-86-94-102-114-124 (= front piece). The front and back pieces are finished separately. FRONT PIECE: = 80-86-94-102-114-124 stitches. Continue stocking stitch back and forth, purling the first row from the wrong side. Then cast off 2 stitches for the armholes at the beginning of each row on each side 1-1-1-1-2-3 times = 76-82-90-98-106-112 stitches. You now continue decreasing for the armholes while casting off for the neck – read the next section before continuing! ARMHOLES: On the next row from the right side decrease 1 stitch inside 3 stitches on each side as follows: Knit 3, slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1, pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch, knit until there are 5 stitches left, knit 2 together, knit 3. Decrease like this every row from the right side (i.e. every 2nd row) a total of 7-7-9-11-12-13 times. Then decrease 1 stitch on each side every other row from the right side (every 4th row) 2-2-2-2-3-3 times. NECKLINE: When the piece measures 35-36-37-38-39-40 cm from the cast-on edge, place the middle 10-10-12-12-14-14 stitches on a thread for the neckline and finish each shoulder separately. Cast off at the beginning of each row from the neck: 3 stitches 1 time, 2 stitches 4-3-3-3-2-2 times and 1 stitch 4-7-7-5-6-6 times, then 1 stitch every 2nd row (every 4th row) 0-0-0-2-3-3 times. When all the decreases for armholes and neckline are finished there are 9-11-12-14-15-17 shoulder-stitches. Work stocking stitch until the piece measures 46-48-50-52-54-56 cm. Cast off. Work the other shoulder in the same way. BACK PIECE: = 80-86-94-102-114-124 stitches. Work back piece with stocking stitch back and forth, purling the first row from the wrong side. Then cast off 2 stitches for the armholes at the beginning of each row on each side 1-1-1-1-2-3 times = 76-82-90-98-106-112 stitches. On the next row from the right side decrease 1 stitch inside 3 stitches on each side as follows: Knit 3, slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1, pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch, knit until there are 5 stitches left, knit 2 together, knit 3. Decrease like this every row from the right side (i.e. every 2nd row) a total of 7-7-9-11-12-13 times. Then decrease 1 stitch on each side every other row from the right side (every 4th row) 2-2-2-2-3-3 times = 58-64-68-72-76-80 stitches. When the piece measures 42-44-46-48-50-52 cm from the cast-on edge, cast off the middle 30-32-34-34-36-36 stitches for the neckline and finish each shoulder separately. At the beginning of each row from the neck cast off for the neckline as follows: 2 stitches 2 times and 1 stitch 1 time = 9-11-12-14-15-17 shoulder-stitches. Work stocking stitch until the piece measures 46-48-50-52-54-56 cm. Cast off. Work the other shoulder in the same way. ASSEMBLY: Sew the shoulder seams. SLEEVE EDGES: Knit up 106 to 132 stitches with circular needle size 3 mm inside 1 stitch around the armhole – stitch number must be divisible by 2. Work rib in the round (knit 1, purl 1) for 2 cm. Cast off. NECK: Knit up 128 to 156 stitches (including the stitches from the thread) with circular needle size 3 mm inside 1 stitch around the neckline – stitch number must be divisible by 2. Work rib in the round (knit 1, purl 1) for 2 cm. Cast off. |
