Dear Drops Team I am new to drops designs and they are very inspiring to knit. I am confused with the size and how to choose right size. My measurements are chest - 100 , waist - 91 and hip 108. which size should I choose in general and is it after blocking or before blocking? Is the jumper size will change after few usages? appreciate help. Best Regards
10.04.2024 - 02:39DROPS Design answered:
Dear Shri, All the necessary measurements are on the schematic drawing at the bottom of the instructions, The measurements are of the finished garment, after blocking. Since the measurements are after blocking, they should not change considerably after wearing, if the piece is handled well. We suggest that you take a sweater that fits the intended wearer well, and compare the measurements. Happy Knitting!

Knitted jumper in DROPS Air. Piece is knitted top down with double neck edge, round yoke and lace pattern. Size: S - XXXL
DROPS 250-35 |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 and A.2. Choose diagram for your size (applies to A.1). INCREASE TIP (applies to round yoke): To calculate how to increase evenly, use the total number of stitches on row (e.g. 92 stitches) and divide stitches by number of increases to be done (e.g. 18) = 5.1. In this example increase by making 1 yarn over after approx. every 5th stitch. On next round work yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. DECREASE TIP (applies to mid under sleeves): Begin 3 stitches before marker thread and knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker thread is between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked. ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: In this pattern long and short needles have been used, begin with fitting length and switch as needed. Work neck edge and yoke in the round on circular needle from mid back, work top down. When yoke is done, divide stitches for body and sleeves. Work body down wards in the round on circular needle while putting the sleeves aside. Then work sleeves downwards in the round on needle. Fold the neck edge double against the wrong side and fasten. NECK EDGE: Cast on 92-96-104-104-108-112 stitches on circular needle size 5 mm with DROPS Air. Switch to circular needle size 3.5 mm (cast on on a larger needle to get an elastic cast-on edge). Knit 1 round. Then work rib in the round (knit 2/purl 2) for 9 cm. The neck edge is later folded double and assembled so that the neck edge is approx. 4 cm. Insert 1 marker at beginning of round = mid back. Measure yoke from this marker. YOKE: Switch to circular needle size 5 mm. Knit 1 round while increasing 18-20-20-24-26-28 stitches evenly - read INCREASE TIP = 110-116-124-128-134-140 stitches. Then work in stocking stitch in the round. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When yoke measures 2-3-4-5-4-6 cm from marker, increase 18-20-20-32-34-36 stitches evenly – remember INCREASE TIP = 128-136-144-160-168-176 stitches. Continue in stocking stitch until piece measures 3-4-5-6-5-7 cm from marker. Now work PATTERN - read explanation above, i.e. work A.1 16-17-18-20-21-22 times in total in the round on yoke. Continue pattern like this. AT THE SAME TIME on every round marked with arrow in A.1 increase stitches evenly as explained below - remember INCREASE TIP. Arrow-1: Increase 24-24-24-32-32-32 stitches evenly = 152-160-168-192-200-208 stitches. Arrow-2: Increase 24-24-24-24-32-32 stitches evenly = 176-184-192-216-232-240 stitches. Arrow-3: Increase 20-26-32-36-34-40 stitches evenly = 196-210-224-252-266-280 stitches. Arrow-4: On this round there are 252-270-288-324-342-360 stitches on needle, decrease 8-2-4-4-6-8 stitches evenly on round (decrease 1 stitch by knitting 2 together) = 244-268-284-320-336-352 stitches. When A.1 has been worked, yoke measures approx. 20-21-22-23-25-27 cm from marker. Now divide yoke for body and sleeves as follows: Work first round in A.2 over the first 38-42-44-49-53-56 stitches (half back piece), slip the next 46-50-54-62-62-64 stitches on a thread for sleeve, cast on 8-8-10-10-12-14 new stitches on needle (in the side under sleeve), work first round in A.2 over the next 76-84-88-98-106-112 stitches (front piece), slip the next 46-50-54-62-62-64 stitches on a thread for sleeve, cast on 8-8-10-10-12-14 new stitches on needle (in the side under sleeve), and work as before over the last 38-42-44-49-53-56 stitches. Fasten off. Finish body and sleeves separately. Now measure piece from here. BODY: = 168-184-196-216-236-252 stitches. Insert 1 marker in one side of piece, in the middle of the 8-8-10-10-12-14 stitches that were cast on under sleeve. Begin round at the marker and work A.2 in the round (begin on 2nd round in A.2). AT THE SAME TIME while working first round adjust number of stitches to 168-183-195-216-234-252. On round marked with arrow-5 in A.2 adjust number of stitches to 170-185-195-215-235-250 stitches. Continue pattern. When A.2 has been worked vertically, work in stocking stitch until piece measures 23-24-24-25-25-25 cm from division. Knit 1 round while increasing 30-31-33-37-41-46 stitches evenly = 200-216-228-252-276-296 stitches. Switch to circular needle size 3.5 mm. Work rib in the round = knit 2/purl 2 for 6 cm. Cast off. Jumper measures approx. 54-56-58-60-62-64 cm from shoulder. SLEEVES: Slip the 46-50-54-62-62-64 stitches from thread in one side of piece on double pointed needles/a circular needle size 5 mm and pick in addition up 1 stitch in each of the 8-8-10-10-12-14 new stitches cast on under sleeve = 54-58-64-72-74-78 stitches. Insert 1 marker thread in the middle of the 8-8-10-10-12-14 stitches under sleeve, insert also 1 marker mid on top of sleeve (between the 2 middle stitches on sleeve). Now work pattern while at the same time decreasing mid under sleeve, so read both sections before continuing. PATTERN: Begin round at marker thread mid under sleeve and work A.2 around the sleeve (begin on 1st round in diagram). When working 15th round in diagram, count out from the middle of sleeve where pattern should start mid under sleeve - marker mid on top of sleeve should fit arrow in A.2. When A.2 has been worked, continue in stocking stitch. DECREASE: When sleeve measures 4-4-3-2-2-2 cm from division, decrease 2 stitches mid under sleeve - read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 4-4-2-1½-1½-1½ cm 3-4-7-10-10-11 times in total = 48-50-50-52-54-56 stitches. Work until sleeve measures 39-38-38-38-37-35 cm from division. 6 cm remain until finished measurements. Try the jumper and work to desired length before rib. Knit 1 round while increasing 8-10-10-8-10-8 stitches evenly = 56-60-60-60-64-64 stitches. Switch to double pointed needles size 3.5 mm. Work rib in the round = knit 2/purl 2 for 6 cm. Cast off. Sleeve measures approx. 45-44-44-44-43-41 cm from division. ASSEMBLY: Fold rib at the top of neck down on inside of garment. Fasten rib to get a double neck edge. To avoid a tight neck edge that sticks out it is important to keep the seam elastic. |
