------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.6. Choose diagram for your size (applies to A.4 and A.5). The diagrams show all rows in the pattern seen from the right side. DECREASE TIP (for mid under sleeve): Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch. CASTING-OFF TIP: To avoid the cast-off edge being tight you can cast off with a larger size needle. If the edge is still tight, make 1 yarn over after approx. each 4th stitch at the same time as casting off and the yarn overs are cast off as normal stitches. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JACKET – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked back and forth with circular needle from mid front to mid back in 2 parts, which are sewn together mid back. The sleeves are worked top down. First the sleeve cap is worked back and forth with circular needle then the sleeve is continued in the round with double pointed needles/short circular needle. The sleeves are sewn into the body to finish. LEFT FRONT AND BACK PIECE: Cast on 157-157-173-173-187-187 stitches with circular needle size 4.5 mm and Cotton Merino. The first row is worked as follows from the right side: Work A.1 (= 9 stitches), A.2A until there are 10 stitches left on the row, A.2B (= 1 stitch) and finish with A.3 (= 9 stitches). Continue this pattern. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When A.2 has been completed, work the next row from the right side as follows: Continue A.1 as before, work A.4 (= 25-25-29-29-31-31 stitches), A.5 over the next 114-114-126-126-138-138 stitches (= 3 repeats of 38-38-42-42-46-46 stitches) and continue A.3 over the last stitches as before. Continue this pattern back and forth until the piece measures 46-47-48-49-50-51 cm. On the next row from the right side cast off for the armhole as follows: Work the first 81-79-93-91-103-101 stitches as before, cast off the next 36-38-40-42-44-46 stitches and work the last 40 stitches as before. On the next row (wrong side), cast on 36-38-40-42-44-46 new stitches over the cast-off stitches for the armhole and continue the pattern back and forth as before. When the piece measures 63-65-67-69-71-73 cm change to circular needle size 4 mm and knit 1 row from the wrong side and knit 1 row from the right side. Now work a gusset in garter stitch with short rows, so the edge of the jacket lies neatly at the back of the neck. Start from the wrong side and work as follows: Knit the first 39 stitches, turn the piece, tighten the strand and knit back. Turn, knit the first 36 stitches, turn, tighten the strand and knit back. Continue working 3 fewer stitches each time you turn until you have worked back and forth over the last 3 stitches. Knit 1 row from the wrong side over all stitches. Cast off with knit from the right side – read CASTING OFF TIP! Cast-off edge = mid back. RIGHT FRONT AND BACK PIECE: Cast on the same number of stitches and work in the same way as for the left front and back piece until the piece measures 46-47-48-49-50-51 cm. On the next row from the right side, cast off for the armhole as follows: Work the first 40 stitches as before, cast off the next 36-38-40-42-44-46 stitches and work the last 81-79-93-91-103-101 stitches as before. On the next row cast on 36-38-40-42-44-46 stitches over the cast-off stitches and continue the pattern back and forth as before and in the same way as for the left front and back piece, until the piece measures 63-65-67-69-71-73 cm. Change to circular needle size 4 mm. Knit 1 row from the wrong side. Now work the gusset as follows: Start from the right side and knit the first 39 stitches, turn, tighten the strand and knit back. Turn and knit the first 36 stitches, turn, tighten the strand and knit back. Continue working 3 fewer stitches each time you turn until you have worked back and forth over the last 3 stitches. Knit 1 row from the right side and knit 1 row from the wrong side over all stitches. Cast off with knit from the right side. SLEEVE: The sleeve is worked top down. The sleeve cap is worked first, back and forth with circular needle. Then the sleeve is worked in the round with short circular needle; change to double pointed needles when necessary. Cast on 28-32-36-40-44-48 stitches with short circular needle size 4.5 mm. Work stocking stitch back and forth and AT THE SAME TIME cast on 5 stitches at the end of each row a total of 4 times on each side = 68-72-76-80-84-88 stitches. The piece now measures approx. 3 cm from the cast-on edge. Insert 1 marker thread at the beginning of the row. Join the piece and work stocking stitch in the round and allow the thread to follow your work onwards. When the piece measures 3-3-3-3-2-2 cm from the join, decrease 2 stitches mid under sleeve – read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 3½-3-2½-2½-2½-2 cm a total of 10-11-12-13-14-15 times = 48-50-52-54-56-58 stitches. Continue working until the piece measures 38 cm from the join in all sizes (there are 4 cm left to finished length; try the sleeve on and continue to desired length). Change to double pointed needles size 4 mm and work A.6 in the round. Cast off with knit – remember CASTING-OFF TIP! The sleeve measures approx. 42 cm from the cast-on edge down in all sizes. Work one more sleeve in the same way. ASSEMBLY: Sew the 2 parts together mid back, inside the cast-off edge – sew with grafting stitches. Sew in the sleeves. |
