How to knit short rows in garter st with wrap

In this DROPS video we show how to knit short rows in garter st with wrap.

When knitting short rows you can shape the garment by making soft curves or give a better fit by creating bust darts. Short rows are partially worked rows before turning. By turning with a wrap you avoid a hole at the turning point.

Short row in garter st: Knit number of sts told in pattern, slip following st purl-wise, place yarn in front of work, slip st back on left needle, turn and work the row back. When knitting next row and getting to the st with wrap; knit wrap and stitch together as one stitch and then finish row.

You must read the pattern to be able to follow. You’ll find patterns with this technique by clicking on the pictures below.

De sidste 10-12 masker bliver aldrig strikket, når jeg hele tiden vender. Så den øverste ende af vestens forstykke er stadig kun 2 cm bredt. Hvad gør jeg forkert?

2....BOTTOM EDGE. When working the bottom edge, do I work Row 1 for the left back, then Row 1 for the left front, then Row 1 for the right front piece, and Row 1 for the right back piece, then work Row 2 for all the different pieces OR do I work the Left Back piece until Row 8, and then move on to the Left Front piece, and work all 8 rows for it, etc.?

Dear Paula, could you please ask your question in the pattern you are working on? It would be easier to understand which pattern you are working on and provide you any help. Happy knitting!

Hello! I love this pattern and I am up to the challenge of my first difficult pattern. I have finished making the back and front domino pieces. I have 2 questions:.... 1. BOTTOM EDGE: Cast on (16)sts. On circ. Needle size 3.5. - Are these cast on stitches added on to the same needle where I placed the back and front domino pieces?
