When you begin to decrease for the neck, shouldn't the decrease be made to both sides of the neck. Pattern says decrease one stitch every other row which would just be one side of neck. Thanks

Dear Mrs Lazar, you dec for neckline on both sides, at beg + at the end of row - see "Decrease tip (applies to neck)". Happy knitting!

I was thinking of doing this in Big Delight rather than using 2 yarns. What do you think? Conversion using the yardage for Delight only.

Yes, I would do that

Knitted DROPS jacket in garter st with bobbles along the edges in ”Delight” and ”Kid-Silk”. Size: S to XXXL
DROPS 132-32 |
|
GARTER ST (back and forth on needle): K all rows. SHORT ROWS: Work more rows over bottom sts than upper sts. This is done as follows (1st row = RS): * Work until marker, turn, tighten thread and work back, work 8 rows over all sts *, repeat from *-*, i.e. 1 repetition = 8 rows at the top and 10 rows at the bottom. MEASURING TIP: Measure when piece is flat, it is important not to stretch the piece when measuring. DECREASE TIP (applies to neck): Dec from RS inside sts in garter st (i.e. band + the new sts cast on for collar). Dec as follows AFTER all sts in garter st: Slip 1 st as if to K, K 1, psso. Dec as follows BEFORE sts in garter st: K 2 tog. INCREASE TIP (applies to collar): Inc 1 st by making 1 YO inside outermost st on collar. On next row K YO twisted to avoid holes. BOBBLE: Cast on 5 new sts at the end of row, work 4 rows back and forth over these sts, turn, K 6 sts (i.e. the 5 new sts + 1 st on piece), then slip 2nd st on right needle over first st, then 3rd st over first st, 4th st over first st, 5th st over first st and finally 6th st over first st. Now all the 5 bobble sts have been cast off. BUTTON HOLES: Cast off for button holes on right front band. 1 BUTTON HOLE = cast off 4th and 5th st from mid front and cast on 2 new sts on next row over these sts. Cast off for button holes when piece measures: SIZE S and M: 2, 9 and 16 cm SIZE L and XL: 2, 10 and 18 cm SIZE XXL and XXXL: 2, 11 and 20 cm -------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------- JACKET: First work bottom part of body back and forth across in garter st with short rows and bobbles in bottom edge of jacket. Then knit up sts along the side of bottom part and work upwards in stocking st with band in garter st. BODY – PART 1: Worked back and forth on circular needle starting on left front piece. From RS the rows starts from the bottom edge of jacket. LOOSELY cast on 39 sts for all sizes on circular needle size 5 mm with 1 thread Delight and 1 thread Kid-Silk. From RS insert a marker after 26 sts from the jackets bottom edge, there are now 13 sts on the other side of marker. Work 8 rows in GARTER ST (see explanation above) over all sts (1st row = RS and begins from bottom edge) - AT THE SAME TIME on 4th row (= WS) work 1 BOBBLE at the end of row – see explanation above! Repeat bobble every 4 rows. AT THE SAME TIME after the first 8 rows in garter st, work SHORT ROWS – see explanation above. Continue in garter st with bobbles and short rows until piece measures 100-110-120-130-140-150 cm along bottom edge where bobbles are (piece measures approx. 80-88-96-104-112-120 cm at the top) – READ MEASURING TIP! Work 8 rows in garter st over all sts and make bobbles every 4 rows. Loosely cast off. BODY – PART 2: Now work upwards from RS with 1 thread Delight and 1 thread Kid-Silk on circular needle size 5 mm. Knit up 1 st in front loop of st in every ridge (1 ridge = 2 rows in garter st) along the shortest side of PART 1. NOW MEASURE PIECE FROM HERE! K 1 row from WS while at the same time evenly adjusting no of sts to 140-152-168-180-196-208 (incl 6 band sts in each side). K 2 rows over all sts. Insert 2 markers in the piece; 37-40-44-47-51-54 sts in from each side (= 66-72-80-86-94-100 sts between markers on back piece). READ ALL OF THE FOLLOWING SECTION BEFORE CONTINUING! Continue in stocking st - but work the 6 band sts in each side in garter st. When piece measures 2 cm, beg to cast off for BUTTON HOLES – see explanation above! When piece measures 8 cm, inc 1 st on each side of marker in each side. Repeat inc every 4 cm a total of 4 times. COLLAR: When piece measures 17-18-19-20-21-22 cm, K 2 rows only over the 6 band sts in one side, work 1 row to other side and K 2 rows only over the 6 band sts in this side, and work back (this is done so that the collar folds nicely). On next row (from RS) beg to inc for collar – SEE INCREASE TIP! Inc 1 st in each side every other row a total of 9 times, then 1 st in each side every 4 rows a total of 6 times (= 15 inc collar sts, a total of 21 sts in garter st) – AT THE SAME TIME on row after first inc (i.e. from WS) make 1 BOBBLE along edge of collar, on next row make 1 BOBBLE along edge of collar in the other side. Repeat bobbles every 4 rows in each side. NECK: At the same time when piece measures 19-20-21-22-23-24 cm, beg dec for neck – SEE DECREASE TIP. Dec 1 st every other row a total of 7-7-7-8-8-8 times, then 1 st every 4 rows a total of 6 times for all sizes (= 13-13-13-14-14-14 sts dec). ARMHOLES: At the same time when piece measures 24-25-26-27-28-29 cm, beg to cast off for armholes: Cast off 6 sts in each side (i.e. 3 sts on each side of each marker) and finish each part separately. LEFT FRONT PIECE: Continue inc for collar, bobbles and dec for neck. Continue to cast off for armhole at beg of every row from side as follows: 2 sts 0-1-2-3-4-5 times and 1 st 3-3-4-4-5-5 times. After all inc and dec 37-38-39-39-40-41 sts remain on the needle. Continue to work until piece measures 43-45-47-49-51-53 cm. On next row from RS, cast off the first 22-23-24-24-25-26 sts in the side for shoulder, work the rest of row. Work as follows over the remaining 15 collar sts (1st row = WS): * 2 rows over all sts, 2 rows only over the outermost 9 sts *, repeat from *-* - AT THE SAME TIME work bobbles as before. When collar measures approx. 6-6-6-7-7-7 cm on the inside, cast off. RIGHT FRONT PIECE: Work as left front piece. But when casting off shoulder sts, this is done from WS and 1st row on collar is worked from RS. BACK PIECE: = 68-74-82-88-96-102 sts. Continue to dec for armholes in each side (at beg of row in each side) as on front piece = 62-64-66-68-70-72 sts. Continue to work until piece measures 40-42-44-46-48-50 cm. Now work 4 rows in garter st over the middle 30-30-30-32-32-32 sts (work the other sts in stocking st). On next row, cast off the middle 18-18-18-20-20-20 sts for neck and finish each shoulder separately = 22-23-24-24-25-26 sts remain on each shoulder. Continue in stocking st with 6 sts in garter st towards the neck, cast off when piece measures 43-45-47-49-51-53 cm. CUFF: Worked back and forth on 2 double pointed needles. Cast on 17 sts on 1 double pointed needle size 5 mm with 1 thread Delight and 1 thread Kid-Silk. Insert a marker after 12 sts. Work 4 rows in garter st over all sts. Continue in garter st and SHORT ROWS until piece measures approx. 27-28-29-30-31-32 cm in the longest side (= bottom edge). Cast off. Sew cast on edge against cast off edge, sew edge to edge to avoid a chunky seam. SLEEVE: Worked in the round on double pointed needles size 5 mm with 1 thread Delight and 1 thread Kid-Silk. Knit up 1 st in front loop of outermost st on cuff, i.e. in the shorter side, beg where cuff was sewn tog and knit up 1 st in every ridge (1 ridge = 2 rows in garter st). P 1 round while at the same time adjusting the no of sts to 38-38-40-42-42-44. K 1 round and P 1 round. Insert a marker at beg of round (= mid under sleeve). Continue in stocking st. AT THE SAME TIME when piece measures 12-12-12-13-13-13 cm, inc 1 st on each side of marker mid under sleeve. Repeat inc every 4-3-3-2½-2-2 cm a total of 10-12-12-13-15-16 times = 58-62-64-68-72-76 sts. When piece measures 50-49-48-47-46-45 cm (shorter measurements in the larger sizes because of longer sleeve cap and broader shoulder width), cast off 6 sts mid under sleeve and work back and forth until finished measurements. Then cast off at beg of every row in each side: 2 sts 3 times, 1 st 1-2-3-4-5-6 times and then 2 sts in each side until piece measures 57 cm. Now cast off 3 sts 1 time in each side. Cast off the remaining sts, the piece measures approx. 58 cm. ASSEMBLY: Sew collar tog edge to edge mid back. Sew collar to neckline on back piece - sew edge to edge. Sew in sleeves and sew on buttons. |
