Hei Kristina.

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagrams A.1, A.2 and A.3. INCREASE TIP (for thumb-gusset): Work as far as marker-stitch, make 1 yarn over, knit 1 (= marker-stitch), make 1 yarn over (= 2 increased stitches). On the next round knit the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. Work as follows on the next increase: Work until there is 1 stitch left before the marker-stitch, make 1 yarn over, knit 3, make 1 yarn over (= 2 increased stitches). Increase like this every 2nd round, always increasing outside the previously increased stitches. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- MITTENS – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked in the round with double pointed needles, from the cuff upwards. A cable is worked on top of each mitten. LEFT MITTEN: Cast on 32-32-36 stitches with double pointed needles size 5 mm and DROPS Melody. Change to double pointed needles size 4 mm. Work rib as follows: Purl 1-1-2, * knit 2, purl 2 * work from *-* until there are 3-3-2 stitches left, knit 2-2-2 and purl 1-1-0. Continue this rib in the round for 5 cm. Change to double pointed needles size 5 mm. Knit 0-0-1, work A.1, then knit to end of round, AT THE SAME TIME increasing 0-2-0 stitches = 37-39-41 stitches. Insert 1 marker; the piece is now measured from here. Work the next round as follows: Knit 2-2-3, work A.2 (cable on top of mitten), stocking stitch until there are 3 stitches left, insert 1 marker in the next stitch and knit this stitch (= thumb-stitch – used when increasing for the thumb-gusset), knit 2. Continue with stocking stitch and A.2 until the piece measures 2 cm from the marker. Remember to maintain the knitting tension. Now continue the stocking stitch and A.2 and AT THE SAME TIME increase 1 stitch on each side of the thumb-stitch for the thumb-gusset – read INCREASE TIP. Increase like this every 2nd round a total of 3-4-5 times = 43-47-51 stitches. When the piece measures 5½-6½-7 cm from the marker, work as follows: Work stocking stitch and A.2 until there are 3-4-5 stitches left before the thumb-stitch, place the next 7-9-11 stitches on a thread (i.e., the thumb-stitch + 3-4-5 stitches on each side), cast on 1 stitch behind the thumb-stitches, knit to end of round = 37-39-41 stitches. Continue the stocking stitch and A.2 until the piece measures 14-16-17 cm from the marker. Insert 1 marker-thread at the beginning of the round and 1 marker-thread after 21-21-23 stitches. Work as follows: Knit 7-7-8, work A.3, knit to end of round = 33-35-37 stitches. Continue with stocking stitch over all stitches and, on the next round, decrease 1 stitch on each side of both marker-threads – read DECREASE TIP (= 4 decreased stitches). Decrease like this every round a total of 5-5-6 times = 13-15-13 stitches. On the next round knit all stitches together 2 and 2, until there is 1 stitch left, knit 1 = 7-8-7 stitches. Cut the strand, pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well. THUMB: Place the 7-9-11 thumb-stitches from the thread on double pointed needles size 5 mm. In addition, knit up 3 stitches (1 in the stitch before the cast-on stitch, 1 in the cast-on stitch and 1 in the stitch after the cast-on stitch) = 10-12-14 stitches. Work stocking stitch in the round for 5½-6-6½ cm. Knit all stitches together 2 and 2 = 5-6-7 stitches. Cut the strand, pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well. RIGHT MITTEN: Work in the same way as the left mitten but, when marking for the thumb, work as follows: Knit 2-2-3, continue A.2, knit 4-4-5, insert 1 marker in the next stitch and knit this stitch (= thumb-stitch – used when increasing for the thumb-gusset), knit to end of round. Finish the mitten and thumb in the same way as for the left mitten. |
