Hello. Do “the finished measurements” refer to length or bust?

Dear Rosie, you can find all the relevant measurements of the finished piece on the schematic drawing at the bottom of the pattern. We suggest you measure a sweater that fits you and compare. Happy Stitching!

I do not understand the instructions for the zipper placket. What is “ pick up sts again from wrong side mean? Was I suppose to bind off after the first 4 rows? And then pick up and knit 2 rows and then bind off. What is best method for sewing in the zipper?
01.11.2018 - 02:06DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Goethal, you will create a small "gusset" to insert the zipper in: from RS pick up the sts along the front piece and work 4 rows garter st, bind off. From WS pick up the same number of sts along same front piece and work 2 rows stocking st, bind off. You have now 2 "edges" along the front piece where you will insert the zipper in between to sew it in there. Happy assembly!

Gauge: 23 sts x 30 rows on larger needles in stockinette st = 10 x 10 cm . See Special Note under "Size". Pattern: See charts. (1 chart = 1 repeat). The pattern is seen from the right side. Garter Stitch, when knitting flat: Knit all sts all rows. Buttons: If buttons instead of a zipper are desired: knit button band instead of zipper plackets as follows: Pick up approx. 120 sts along the left front on smaller needles with dark green and knit Pattern 3 back and forth on the needles for 3 cm , bind off. Repeat along the right front, but after 1 cm make 6 buttonholes evenly distributed on the row (1 buttonhole = bind off 2 sts and cast on 2 new sts over the bound-off sts on the next row). Body: Cast on 387 (422) sts on smaller circular needles with light olive and knit 1 row (right side row). Change to larger circular needles and dark green and knit Pattern 1, keeping 1 edge st at each side (center front) in garter st throughout (do not knit the edge sts into the pattern). When the work measures 25 cm (adjust for complete pattern) knit Pattern 2 (1 row, right side row). 277 (302) sts remain on the needles. Change to Pattern 3 and at the same time, when the work measures 33 (32) cm , knit the next row as follows: K 1 (edge st), 67 (73) sts for the front, bind off 4 sts for armhole, 133 (146) sts for the back, bind off 4 sts for armhole, 67 (73) sts for the front, K 1 (edge st). Knit the rest of each part separately. Front: = 68 (74) sts. Bind off for armholes every other row: 3 sts 1 (3) times, 2 sts 2 (2) times, 1 st 3 (3) times = 58 (58) sts. When the work measures 51 cm , bind off for the neck every other row: 12 (13) sts 1 time, 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 3 times, 1 st 2 times. Bind off when the work measures 58 cm . Back: = 133 (146) sts. Bind off for armholes as on the front = 113 (114) sts. When the work measures 56 cm , bind off the center 39 (42) sts for the neck. Bind off 2 sts at each neck edge on the next row. Bind off when the work measures 58 cm . Sleeves: Cast on 70 (77) sts on smaller double pointed needles with light olive; join and place a marker at the join, knit 1 row. Change to larger double pointed needles and dark green and knit Pattern 1 until the work measures approx. 10 cm (adjust for complete pattern). Knit Pattern 2 (1 row). 50 (55) sts remain on the needles. Change to Pattern 3 and inc 1 st each side of marker 32 times alternately every other and every 3rd row = 114 (119) sts. When the work measures 43 (42) cm , bind off 2 sts each side of marker and knit the rest back and forth on the needles. Bind off for sleeve caps at each side every other row: 3 (3) sts 12 (15) times, bind off. The work measures approx. 52 (53) cm . Assembly: Sew shoulder seams. Pick up approx. 117 sts along the left front on larger circular needles with dark green and knit 4 rows garter st back and forth on the needles. Pick up sts again from the wrong side and knit 2 rows stockinette st, bind off. Repeat along the right front. Now 2 zipper plackets have been created, into which the fabric on the zipper is inserted. Pick up approx. 88-91 sts around the neck on larger circular needles with dark green and knit 4 rows garter st. Then increase evenly distributed to 135 sts (divisible by 7 sts + 2 edge sts) and knit Pattern 1 for 9 cm and then Pattern 2. Continue with Pattern 3 for 9 cm , bind off. Fold the edge over double against the wrong side and sew. Sew in the zipper - do not sew the zipper up into the neck edge. Sew on the sleeves. |
