I have a question about the sleeve cap. The pattern says to start dec for the sleeve cap at 45cm (size XL) and should be bound off at 56cm, but that the sleeve cap should be 22cm long. I'm confused about how this math will work out. Thanks for your help, Debra

Dear Debra, the length of the sleeve cap is not simply the difference between the finished sleeve and where you started to cast off, but the width of the sleeve and the arched line also adds to that measurement. I hope this helps. Happy Knitting!

Hoi Marjolein. Ja, je hebt gelijk - een klein vertaalfoutje. Ik heb het aangepast. Bedankt voor het melden.

Left front piece: Cast on 46-50-52-56-60-64 sts (incl 1 edge st at side and 17 front band sts towards mid front) on needle size 7 mm with 1 thread of each quality. Work 5 rows garter st (first row = WS). Continue in moss st with 17 front band sts in garter st towards mid front. At the same time when piece measures 10 cm dec at side as described for back piece = 42-46-48-52-56-60 sts. When piece measures 53-54-55-56-57-58 cm cast off for armhole as described for back piece = 37-39-39-40-40-41 sts. When piece measures 62-64-66-68-70-72 cm put 13-15-15-16-16-17 sts towards mid front on a thread for neck and dec to shape the neckline on every other row: 2 sts 1 time, 1 st 5 times = 17 sts left on shoulder. Cast off when piece measures 72-74-76-78-80-82 cm. Right front piece: Cast on and work like left front piece, but mirrored. Sleeve: Cast on 32-34-34-36-36-38 sts (incl 1 edge st each side) on needle size 7 mm with 1 thread of each quality. Work 5 rows garter st (first row = WS) and continue in moss st. When piece measures 10 cm inc 1 st each side on every 7-5.5-4-4-3-2.5 cm a total of 6-7-9-9-11-12 times = 44-48-52-54-58-62 sts. When piece measures 47-47-47-45-43-42 cm (less on the larger sizes because of larger sleeve cap) dec to shape the sleeve cap each side on every other row: 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 1 time, 1 st 4-5-6-8-10-11 times, then 2 sts each side until piece measures 54-55-56-56-56-56 cm, dec 3 sts each side 1 time and cast off remaining sts. Sleeve measures approx 55-56-57-57-57-57 cm. Assembly: Sew shoulder seams. Set in sleeves. Sew sleeve and side seams inside 1 edge st. Neckline: Pick up 70-86 sts (incl sts on threads) round neck on needle size 7 mm with 1 thread of each quality. Work 8 cm garter st back and forth on needle, cast off. Crochet border/buttonholes: Crochet a border round the opening on crochet hook size 6 mm with 1 thread of each quality. Beg at the bottom of right front piece, work along right front piece, round the neck and down left front piece as follows: 1 dc, *1 ch, skip approx 1 cm, 1 dc*, repeat from *-*. After approx 32 cm, work 3 ch instead of 1 ch for buttonholes on right front piece a total of 4 times with approx 8 cm in between. Sew on buttons. |
