------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- KNITTING TIP: When working short rows, there will be a small hole after each turn. This hole can be closed by using the technique German Short Rows as follows: Slip the first stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, take the strand over the right needle and tighten well from the back (2 loops on the needle). These loops are worked together on the next row. RAGLAN: Work all increases from the right side. Increase 1 stitch before/after 6 stitches in each transition between the body and sleeves; the marker-threads are in the middle of these 6 stitches (purl 2, knit 2, purl 2). Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over, which is worked as follows on the next round/row: FROM WRONG SIDE: BEFORE RAGLAN STITCHES (yarn over twists to the left): Purl through the stitch loop that lies on the back of the needle (avoids a hole). Work the new stitches in stocking stitch. AFTER RAGLAN-STITCHES (yarn over twists to the right)/ Slip the yarn-over purl-wise from the left to the right needle, place it back onto the left needle by inserting the left needle through the back (the yarn over is now the other way round). Purl through the stitch loop that lies on the front of the needle (avoids a hole). Work the new stitches in stocking stitch. FROM RIGHT SIDE: BEFORE RAGLAN-STITCHES (yarn over twists to the right): Slip the yarn-over purl-wise from the left to the right needle, place it back onto the left needle by inserting the left needle through the back (the yarn over is now the other way round). Knit through the stitch loop that lies on the front of the needle (avoids a hole). Work the new stitches in stocking stitch. AFTER RAGLAN-STITCHES (yarn over twists to the left): Knit through the stitch loop that lies on the back of the needle (avoids a hole). Work the new stitches in stocking stitch. DECREASE TIP (mid-under sleeves): Start 3 stitches before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The neck is worked in the round, then the neckline is worked back and forth. The yoke is worked in the round, top down and from mid-back. The body is then worked in the round, while the sleeves wait. The sleeves are worked top down, in the round. If there is a «0» in your chosen size, skip the information and go straight to the next instruction. NECK: Cast on 88-88-88-104-104-104 stitches with 1 strand DROPS Air or 1 strand DROPS Alaska and 1 strand DROPS Kid-Silk (2 strands) using circular needle size 4.5 mm. Knit 1 round, then work rib as follows: Knit 1, * purl 2, knit 2 *, work from *-* until there are 3 stitches left, purl 2 and knit 1. Work this rib for 6 cm. Insert 4 marker-threads, without working the stitches and inserting each thread between 2 knitted stitches (the raglan-stitches). The threads are used when increasing for raglan. In addition, insert 1 marker at the beginning of the round (mid-back); the yoke is measured from here. Count 12-12-12-16-16-16 stitches (half the back piece), insert 1 marker-thread, count 20 stitches (= sleeve), insert 1 marker-thread, count 24-24-24-32-32-32 stitches (= front piece), insert 1 marker-thread, count 20 stitches (= sleeve), insert 1 marker-thread, there are 12-12-12-16-16-16 stitches left (= half the back piece). NECKLINE: Change to circular needle size 5.5 mm. The neckline is now worked with short rows – read KNITTING TIP in explanations above. Work stocking stitch with 6 stitches in each raglan-line worked in rib (purl 2, knit 2, purl 2 – seen from the right side and the marker-thread between the 2 knitted stitches). ROW 1 (right side): Knit and increase for RAGLAN – read explanation above, on each side of the first 2 marker-threads (4 increased stitches), turn when you have worked 5 stitches past the 2nd marker-thread (left-hand side of front neckline when the garment is worn). ROW 2 (wrong side): Purl and turn when you have worked 5 stitches past the last marker-thread. ROW 3 (right side): Knit and increase for raglan on each side of all the marker-threads (8 increased stitches), turn when you have worked 2 stitches past the previous turn. ROW 4 (wrong side): Purl and turn when you have worked 2 stitches past the previous turn. ROW 5 (right side): Knit and increase for raglan on each side of all marker-threads (8 increased stitches), turn when you have worked 2 stitches past the previous turn. ROW 6 (wrong side): Purl and turn when you have worked 2 stitches past the previous turn. ROW 7 (right side): Knit and increase for raglan on each side of the first 2 marker-threads (4 increased stitches), work to mid-back. The short rows are finished and you have increased 3 times for raglan by each marker-thread = 112-112-112-128-128-128 stitches. Continue in the round. Knit 1 round without increases. YOKE: Knit and increase for raglan; In sizes XS, S and M go straight to ALL SIZES. In sizes L, XL and XXL work as follows: ROUND 1: Knit and increase for raglan on each side of the raglan-stitches (8 increased stitches). NOTE: At the beginning of the round, increase after the first set of raglan-stitches, at the end of the round increase before the first set of raglan-stitches. ROUND 2: Knit (raglan-stitches as before). Work ROUNDS 1 and 2 a total of 2 0-0-0-3-1-2 times (0-0-0-6-2-4 rounds worked) = 112-112-112-152-136-144 stitches. Remember to maintain the knitting tension. A total of 3-3-3-6-4-5 increases in height from the beginning. ALL SIZES: Work and increase as follows: ROUND 1: Knit and increase for raglan on each side of the raglan-stitches (8 increased stitches). ROUND 2: Knit (raglan-stitches as before). ROUND 3: Knit and increase for raglan on the front and back pieces, i.e., increase after markers 2 and 4 and before markers 3 and 1; do not increase on the sleeves (4 increased stitches). ROUND 4: Knit (raglan-stitches as before). Work ROUNDS 1 to 4 a total of 9-9-11-10-12-12 times (36-36-44-40-48-48 rounds worked; 18-18-22-20-24-24 increases in height on the front and back pieces and 9-9-11-10-12-12 increases in height on the sleeves) = 220-220-244-272-280-288 stitches. In sizes L and XL, the increases are finished, in sizes XS, S, M and XXL continue increasing on the front and back pieces every 2nd round, 1-2-1-0-0-3 more times. A total of 22-23-26-26-28-32 increases in height on the body and 12-12-14-16-16-17 increases in height on the sleeves (including the increases on the short rows for the neckline) = 224-228-248-272-280-300 stitches. Continue working without further increases until the yoke measures 23-24-27-27-29-34 cm from the marker mid-back. Now divide for the body and sleeves. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES Knit 31-32-35-39-41-45, purl 2, knit 1 (half the raglan-stitches = half the back piece) place the next 44-44-48-52-52-54 stitches on a stitch holder for the sleeve, cast on 8-12-12-12-16-16 stitches, knit 1, purl 2, knit 62-64-70-78-82-90 stitches, purl 2, knit 1 (= front piece), place the next 44-44-48-52-52-54 stitches on a stitch holder for the sleeve, cast on 8-12-12-12-16-16 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), knit 1, purl 2, knit the last 31-32-35-39-41-45 stitches (= half the back piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. BODY: = 152-164-176-192-208-224 stitches. Continue stocking stitch across the front and back pieces but the 3 raglan-stitches on each side and the 8-12-12-12-16-16 cast-on stitches under each sleeve are worked in rib (purl 2 and knit 2), i.e., the raglan-stitches + cast-on stitches = 14-18-18-18-22-22 ribbed stitches on each side. Work until the piece measures 40-42-44-45-47-49 cm from mid-back. On the next round, increase 16-18-20-20-24-24 stitches evenly across the stocking stitches on the front piece and increase 16-18-20-20-24-24 stitches evenly across the stocking stitches on the back piece = 184-200-216-232-256-272 stitches. Change to circular needle size 4.5 mm. Continue the rib across the stitches each side and work rib (knit 2 and purl 2) across the front and back pieces, with the rib continuing neatly on the round. Work this rib for 6-6-6-7-7-7 cm. Cast off with rib. The jumper measures approx. 52-54-56-58-60-62 cm from the shoulder and 46-48-50-52-54-56 cm from mid-back. SLEEVES: Place the 44-44-48-52-52-54 sleeve-stitches from one stitch holder onto circular/double pointed needles size 5.5 mm and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 8-12-12-12-16-16 cast-on stitches under the sleeve = 52-56-60-64-68-70 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the new stitches. Work stocking stitch in the round. When the sleeve measures 1 cm from the division, decrease mid-under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP as follows: Decrease 2 stitches every 3-3-2½-1½-1½-1 cm a total of 4-6-6-8-8-8 times = 44-44-48-48-52-54 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 37-37-35-33-32-28 cm. Knit 1 round and increase 8-8-8-8-8-10 stitches evenly spaced = 52-52-56-56-60-64 stitches. Change to double pointed needles size 4.5 mm. Work rib (knit 2 and purl 2) for 6-6-6-7-7-7 -cm. Cast off. The sleeve measures approx. 43-43-41-40-39-35 cm from the division. |
