------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- INCREASE TIP-1: INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS LEFT – from RIGHT SIDE (new stitch twists to left): Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the row below, pick up the strand from the front and knit through the stitch-loop that lies on the back of the needle. INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE RIGHT- from RIGHT SIDE (new stitch twists to right): Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the row below, pick up the strand from the back and knit through the stitch-loop that lies on the front of the needle. SLEEVE TIP: When knitting up stitches under the sleeve, you can get a small hole in the transition between stitches on the body and sleeve. This hole can be closed by picking up the strand between 2 stitches and working this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). INCREASE TIP-2 (for transition to rib): When increasing evenly on the first round of rib, it is important to increase in the stitches that subsequently will be purled, so all knitted stitches continue neatly from the stocking stitch. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE. The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. Work according to points 1 – 5. 1. BACK PIECE: Cast on stitches for the back of the neck. Work the back piece back and forth, top down, increasing stitches on each side until the shoulder stitch-count has been achieved. The back piece has slightly diagonal shoulders. 2. FRONT PIECE: Worked in 2 sections (each side of neck). Start by knitting up stitches along one back shoulder, working downwards and increasing for the neckline. Repeat on the other shoulder. Then cast on stitches for the neckline, joining the 2 front pieces and continuing the front piece back and forth to the correct length. 3. YOKE: Place all the stitches on the same circular needle, work first the front piece, knit up stitches for the sleeve along one side of the front piece, work the back piece, knit up stitches for the sleeve along the other side of the front piece. The yoke is continued in the round. 4. INCREASE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: While continuing the yoke stitches are increased, first for the sleeves and later for both the body and sleeves. 5. BODY AND SLEEVES: When the increases and the yoke are finished, the yoke is divided for the body and sleeves. The body is finished in the round while the sleeves wait. Then the sleeves are worked in the round, top down. Stitches are knitted up around the neckline and the neck is worked in the round to finish. BACK PIECE: The piece is worked back and forth. Cast on 28-28-30-32-34-34-36 stitches with circular needle size 4.5 mm, 1 strand DROPS Fiesta and 1 strand DROPS Kid-Silk (2 strands). ROW 1 (wrong side): Purl, casting on 2 stitches at the end of the row. ROW 2 (right side): Knit, casting on 2 stitches at the end of the row AFTER ROW 2: Work ROWS 1 and 2 a total of 9-10-10-10-10-11-11 times (18-20-20-20-20-22-22 rows worked) = 64-68-70-72-74-78-80 stitches. Remember to maintain the knitting tension. Cut the strand and place the stitches on a stitch holder. LEFT SHOULDER: Find the left back shoulder as follows: Lay the back piece flat, right side up, with the stitch holder/thread towards you; left side of piece = left shoulder. Start from the right side by the neck on the left back shoulder and knit up 1 stitch in each row worked, inside the outermost stitch as far as the armhole (18-20-20-20-20-22-22 shoulder-stitches). Take especial care when knitting up the new stitches, knit up inside of the stitches that was cast on, so the knitted-up edge is neat. Insert 1 marker by the neck. All measurements on the front piece are taken from this marker. ROW 1 (wrong side): Purl 2, knit until there are 2 stitches left, purl 2. ROW 2 (right side): Knit. ROW 3 (wrong side): Purl 2, knit until there are 2 stitches left, purl 2. There are now 2 ridges visible on the right side, with 2 stocking stitches each side. Continue stocking stitch until the piece measures 7-7-7-7-7-7-8 cm. Now increase for the neckline as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Read INCREASE TIP-1. Knit 3, increase 1 stitch towards the left, knit to end of row. ROW 2 (wrong side): Purl. Work ROWS 1 and 2 a total of 5-5-6-6-7-7-7 times (10-10-12-12-14-14-14 rows worked) = 23-25-26-26-27-29-29 stitches. The neck-increases are finished and the piece measures approx. 11-11-12-12-13-13-14 cm from the marker. 2 cm of the neck-depth will lie on the back piece. Cut the strand and place the stitches on a stitch holder. Work the right front shoulder along the right back shoulder as follows:. RIGHT SHOULDER: Start from the right side by the armhole on the right back shoulder and knit up 1 stitch in each row worked, inside the outermost stitch as far as the neckline (18-20-20-20-20-22-22 shoulder-stitches). Take especial care when knitting up inside the 2 cast-on stitches so the knitted-up edge is neat. There are 2 visible ridges on the right side, with 2 stocking stitches each side. Continue stocking stitch until the piece measures 7-7-7-7-7-7-8 cm. Now increase for the neckline as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Knit until there are 3 stitches left on the row, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 3 - remember INCREASE TIP-1. FRONT PIECE: On the next row (right side) join the 2 shoulders together for the front piece as follows: Knit the 23-25-26-26-27-29-29 stitches on the right front shoulder, cast on 18-18-18-20-20-20-22 stitches for the neckline, knit the 23-25-26-26-27-29-29 stitches on the left front shoulder = 64-68-70-72-74-78-80 stitches. Purl back from the wrong side. Now join the front and back pieces and knit up stitches for the sleeves. ROW 1 (right side): Knit together the first 2 stitches on the front piece (1 stitch decreased), knit until there are 2 stitches left on the front piece, slip 1 stitch, knit 1, pass the slipped stitch over (1 stitch decreased), insert 1 marker, knit up 20-20-22-22-24-24-26 stitches along the left-hand side of the front piece (= sleeve-stitches, knitted up inside the outermost stitch), insert 1 marker, knit together the first 2 stitches on the back piece (1 stitch decreased), knit until there are 2 stitches left on the back piece, slip 1 stitch, knit 1, pass the slipped stitch over (1 stitch decreased), insert 1 marker, knit up 20-20-22-22-24-24-26 stitches along the right-hand side of the front piece (= sleeve-stitches, knitted up inside the outermost stitch), insert 1 marker = 164-172-180-184-192-200-208 stitches. YOKE: Continue in the round. ROUND 1: Knit and increase 1 stitch on each side of both sleeves – remember INCREASE TIP-1, increasing 1 stitch towards the left at the beginning of the sleeve and 1 stitch towards the right at the end of the sleeve. The stitch count on the sleeves increases but remains the same on the front and back pieces. Work this round a total of 2-2-1-1-1-1-1 times =24-24-24-24-26-26-28 stitches on each sleeve and 62-66-68-70-72-76-78 stitches on the front and back pieces = 172-180-184-188-196-204-212 stitches. Continue as follows: ROUND 1: Knit and increase 1 stitch on each side of each sleeve as before remember INCREASE TIP-1. The stitch count on the sleeves increases but remains the same on the front and back pieces. ROUND 2: Knit without increasing. Work ROUNDS 1 and 2 a total of 3-4-2-4-2-2-1 times (6-8-4-8-4-4-2 rounds worked. A total of 5-6-3-5-3-3-2 increases in height on the sleeves: 30-32-28-32-30-30-30 stitches on each sleeve and 62-66-68-70-72-76-78 stitches on the front and back pieces) = 184-196-192-204-204-212-216 stitches. Now increase on both the body and sleeves, increasing 1 stitch after/before the markers on the body so there is 1 stitch between the increases on the sleeves and the body: ROUND 1: Knit 1, increase 1 stitch towards the left, knit until there is 1 stitch left on the front piece before the next marker, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 1, move the marker onto the right needle, increase 1 stitch towards the left, knit to next marker, increase 1 stitch towards the right, move the marker onto the right needle (= sleeve), knit 1, increase 1 stitch towards the left, knit until there is 1 stitch left on the back piece before the next marker, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 1, move the marker onto the right needle, increase 1 stitch towards the left, knit to next marker, increase 1 stitch towards the right, move the marker onto the right needle (= sleeve). 8 increased stitches, 1 stitch increased on each side of 1 knitted stitch in each transition between body and sleeves. A total of 15-17-16-20-21-24-26 increases in height on the sleeves and 10-11-13-15-18-21-24 increases in height on the body: 50-54-54-62-66-72-78 stitches on each sleeve and 82-88-94-100-108-118-126 stitches on the front and back pieces = 264-284-296-324-348-380-408 stitches. The sleeves measure approx. 12-13-13-16-17-20-21 cm. Folding the jumper double at the shoulder, the yoke should measure approx. 18-19-19-22-24-27-28 cm from outermost on the shoulder and down the armhole. If necessary, continue working to this measurement without further increases. Now divide for the body and sleeves. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: Knit the first 82-88-94-100-108-118-126 stitches (= front piece), place the next 50-54-54-62-66-72-78 stitches on a stitch holder for the sleeve, cast on 6-6-8-8-10-10-12 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), knit 82-88-94-100-108-118-126 (= back piece), place the next 50-54-54-62-66-72-78 stitches on a stitch holder for the sleeve, cast on 6-6-8-8-10-10-12 stitches (mid-under the sleeve).
