------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.7. The diagrams show the pattern from the right side. INCREASE TIP-1 (from right side): The increased stitches are worked into the moss stitch (A.1). INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE RIGHT BEFORE SHOULDER STITCHES: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the previous row, pick up the strand from the back and work through the front loop. INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE LEFT AFTER SHOULDER STITCHES: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the previous row, pick up the strand from the front and work through the back loop. INCREASE TIP-2 (from wrong side): The increased stitches are worked into the moss stitch (A.1). INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE RIGHT BEFORE SHOULDER STITCHES: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the previous row, pick up the strand from the front and work through the back loop. INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE LEFT AFTER SHOULDER STITCHES: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the previous row, pick up the strand from the back and work through the front loop. KNITTING TIP: When working short rows, there will be a small hole after each turn. This hole can be closed by tightening the strand or using the technique German Short Rows as follows: Slip the first stitch purl-wise, take the strand over the right needle and tighten well from the back (2 loops on the needle). These loops are worked together on the next row. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker thread as follows: Work until there are 2 stitches left before the marker stitch, slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch, knit 1 (marker-stitch) knit 2 together (2 stitches decreased). On the next round fit the pattern into the rib so there is only 1 knitted stitch by the marker. INCREASE TIP-3 (for sleeve-edges): Work to the marker-stitch, make 1 yarn over, knit 1 (marker-stitch), make 1 yarn over = 2 increased stitches. On the next round knit/purl the yarn over twisted into the rib. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- VEST – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The neck is worked in the round with circular needle, top down and from the right back shoulder. When the neck is finished, the yoke is worked with short rows back and forth until the neckline is finished. Piece is divided into front and back pieces and worked separately down to the armholes. The body is then worked in the round. The sleeve-edges are worked in the round. The neck is folded double to the inside and sewn down. NECK: Cast on 112-112-120-120-128-128 stitches with circular needle size 4 mm and DROPS Daisy or DROPS Lima. Change to circular needle size 3 mm and work rib (knit 1, purl 1) for 7-7-7-9-9-9 cm (casting on with a larger needle size makes the cast-on edge elastic. The neck is later folded double, leaving a neck-height of approx. 3-3-3-4-4-4 cm). Insert 2 markers, the first before the first stitch on the round, the second before the 56th-56th-60th-60th-64th-64th stitch on the round = 56-56-60-60-64-64 stitches between the markers, which sit between 2 stitches, which are the shoulder-stitches and are worked in stocking stitch. Cut the strand. Change to circular needle size 4 mm. Move the first 11-11-9-9-7-7 stitches onto the left needle without working them, insert 1 marker-thread here, move the next 34-34-38-38-42-42 stitches onto the left needle without working them. These stitches are mid-front. There are 11-11-11-11-11-11 stitches left before marker-2. Insert a 2nd marker-thread here (beginning of row). It is important to keep the marker-threads and markers separate. You increase by the markers (shoulder-stitches) and the marker-threads are used for short rows on the neckline. Continue back and forth ROW 1 (right side): Start by marker-thread-2 (towards the left front shoulder), work pattern A.1 and increase for the shoulder on each side of the 2 shoulder-stitches – read INCREASE TIP-1, work A.1 to 2 stitches past marker-thread-1 (4 increased stitches). Turn. ROW 2 (wrong side): Continue A.1 and increase for the shoulder on each side of the 2 shoulder-stitches – read INCREASE TIP-2, work A.1 to 2 stitches past marker-thread-2 (4 increased stitches). Turn. ROW 3 (right side): Work A.1 and increase for the shoulder on each side of the 2 shoulder-stitches – remember INCREASE TIP-1, work A.1 until you have worked to 2 stitches past the previous turn (the new stitches are worked into A.1 (4 increased stitches). Turn. ROW 4 (wrong side): Work A.1 and increase for the shoulder on each side of the 2 shoulder-stitches – remember INCREASE TIP-2, work A.1 until you have worked to 2 stitches past the previous turn (the new stitches are worked into A.1 (4 increased stitches). Turn. Work ROWS 3 and 4 until you have turned 4-4-4-4-4-4 times on each side. Now work to 1 stitch past the previous turn before turning, 3-3-5-5-7-7 times on each side: 14-14-18-18-22-22 rows worked with the last row from the wrong side. There are 168-168-192-192-216-216 stitches and a total of 14-14-18-18-22-22 increases in height on each side of the shoulder-stitches. Cut the strand. Place the 2 shoulder-stitches on each side on separate stitch holders/threads, with 82-82-94-94-106-106 stitches on the front piece and 82-82-94-94-106-106 stitches on the back piece. Place the back piece stitches on a stitch holder/thread and work the front piece: FRONT PIECE: = 82-82-94-94-106-106 stitches. Insert 1 marker outermost; the armhole is measured from here. Start from the right side and continue A.1 back and forth. When the armhole measures 11-12-13-14-15-16 cm from the marker, continue as follows: Work A.2. Work A.3 6-6-7-7-8-8 times, then work the first 10 stitches in A.3 so the pattern is the same on both sides. Work A.4. When there are 6-8-8-12-12-16 rows left in A.4 (see arrow in diagram) cast on stitches for the armholes at the end of each row as follows: 1 stitch 2-2-2-4-4-4 times each side, 2 stitches 0-1-1-1-1-3 times each side and 3 stitches 1 time each side (6-8-8-12-12-16 rows worked) = 92-96-108-112-124-132 stitches. The armhole measures 25-26-27-28-29-30 cm from the marker. BACK PIECE: Place the 82-82-94-94-106-106 stitches from the stitch holder/thread on circular needle size 4 mm. Start from the right side and work in the same way as the front piece = 92-96-108-112-124-132 stitches. JOINING THE PIECE: Cast on 2-6-6-10-10-12 stitches with circular needle size 4 mm, knit the 92-96-108-112-124-132 stitches on the front piece, cast on 4-12-12-20-20-24 stitches, knit the 92-96-108-112-124-132 stitches on the back piece, cast on 2-6-6-9-9-12 stitches = 192-216-240-264-288-312 stitches. BODY: = 192-216-240-264-288-312 stitches. Continue with pattern in the round as follows: Work A.5. Work A.6. Work A.3. Work A.7. Work A.1 until the piece measures 23-24-25-25-26-27 cm from the join. Change to circular needle size 3 mm. Knit 1 round and increase 20-24-24-26-28-32 stitches evenly spaced = 212-240-264-290-316-344 stitches. Work rib (knit 1, purl 1) for 4-4-4-5-5-5 cm. Cast off slightly loosely with rib. The piece measures approx. 52-54-56-58-60-62 cm from outermost on the shoulder. SLEEVE-EDGES: Use circular needle size 3 mm. Start from the right side mid-under the sleeve and knit up approx. 59-65-67-71-75-79 stitches as far as the 2 shoulder-stitches, place these 2 stitches on the left needle and work them as follows: knit 1, increase 1 purled stitch, knit 1. Knit up 60-64-66-72-74-80 stitches down the armhole to mid-under the sleeve = 122-132-136-146-152-162 stitches. Work rib in the round, starting with knit 1, then (purl 1, knit 1). The rib should match the 3 shoulder-stitches. Insert 1 marker in the stitch mid-under the sleeve, you decrease on each side of this stitch. Continue the rib for 1 cm. Read DECREASE TIP and decrease every 2nd round 3 times. The sleeve-edge measures approx. 3 cm. Work until the sleeve-edge measures 4 cm. Now increase on each side of the marker-stitch – read INCREASE TIP-3, increasing every 2nd round 3 times. When the sleeve-edge measures 7 cm, cast off with rib. Fold the sleeve-edge double to the inside and sew down, making sure the seam is not tight. ASSEMBLY: Fold the neck double to the inside and sew down. To avoid the neck being tight and rolling outwards, it is important that the seam is elastic. |
