------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge = knit 2 rows. MOSS STITCH (worked back and forth): ROW 1: * Knit 1. purl 1 *, work from *-*. ROW 2: Knit over purl and purl over knit. Repeat row 2 onwards. MOSS STITCH (worked in the round): ROUND 1: * Knit 1, purl 1 *, work from *-*. ROUND 2: Knit over purl and purl over knit. Repeat round 2 onwards. INCREASE TIP: Increase towards the left: Use the left needle to pick up the loop from the front between 2 stitches from the previous row and knit the back loop. Increase towards the right: Use the left needle to pick up the loop from behind between 2 stitches from the previous row and knit the front loop. DECREASE TIP (mid-under sleeve): Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker thread sits between these 2 stitches) slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1, pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (= 2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The pattern uses both long and short circular needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The piece is started working back and forth on the needle, casting on stitches for the back of the neck, working the back piece top down and increasing on each side for the shoulders which are slightly diagonal. Work as far as the armholes. The back piece then waits while the front piece is worked in 2 sections, knitting up stitches along one shoulder, working and increasing for the neckline, then doing the same along the other shoulder. The front piece is joined when the neckline is finished and worked as far as the armholes. The front and back pieces are joined and the body continued in the round, before being divided for the split in each side. Stitches are knitted up around each armhole. The sleeve cap is worked back and forth with short rows, then the sleeve is continued in the round. Stitches are knitted up around the neckline and the neck worked to finish, can be folded double to the wrong side and sewn down. BACK PIECE: Cast on 25-25-25-25-27-27 stitches with circular needle size 7 mm and DROPS Melody. Purl 1 row from the wrong side. Read INCREASE TIP and work as follows from the right side: Knit 3, increase towards the left, work MOSS STITCH (back and forth) – read description above, until there are 3 stitches left, increase towards the right, knit 3. From the wrong side work moss stitch with purl 3 on each side. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! Continue increasing as described every 2nd row (each row from the right side) a total of 16-18-20-22-24-28 times. After the last increase there are 57-61-65-69-75-83 stitches. Insert 1 marker outermost on one side. The piece is now measured from here! Continue working back and forth until the piece measures 12-12-13-12-13-13 cm, along the armhole from the marker. Increase 1 stitch on each side, by working 2 stitches in the first and last stitch. Increase like this each row from the right side a total of 2-2-2-3-3-3 times = 61-65-69-75-81-89 stitches. Continue working until the piece measures 14-14-15-15-16-16 cm, measured along the armhole, finishing with a row from the wrong side. Cut the strand, place the stitches on a stitch holder and work the front piece. FRONT PIECE: Start with the left shoulder (when the garment is worn). Knit up 16-18-20-22-24-28 stitches inside the outermost stitch along the left back shoulder (knit up 1 stitch in each row from the top edge, see D in sketch). All measurements are taken from here. Start from the wrong side and work moss stitch. NOTE! Start with knit 1. When the piece measures 9 cm, increase for the neckline as follows. Increase on each row from the right side by working 2 stitches in the first stitch on the row, then working the new stitches in moss stitch. Increase like this a total of 4 times = 20-22-24-26-28-32 stitches. Work back from the wrong side, cut the strand and work the right shoulder. Knit up 16-18-20-22-24-28 stitches inside the outermost stitch along the right back shoulder (knit up 1 stitch in each row from the top edge, see E in sketch). All measurements are taken from here. Start from the wrong side and work moss stitch. NOTE! Start the moss stitch with knit 1. When the piece measures 9 cm, increase for the neckline as follows: Increase on each row from the right side by working 2 stitches in the last stitch on the row, then working the new stitches in moss stitch. Increase a total of 4 times = 20-22-24-26-28-32 stitches. Work back from the wrong side. Work from the right side as before over the 20-22-24-26-28-32 stitches from the front right shoulder, cast on 17-17-17-17-19-19 stitches for the neckline and work the 20-22-24-26-28-32 stitches from the left front shoulder = 57-61-65-69-75-83 stitches. Work moss stitch back and forth over all stitches until the piece measures 22-24-25-26-27-29 cm. Increase 1 stitch on each side, by working 2 stitches in the first and last stitch on the row. Increase like this each row from the right side a total of 2-2-2-3-3-3 times = 61-65-69-75-81-89 stitches. Continue working until the piece measures 24-26-27-29-30-32 cm, measured along the armhole. Now join the front and back pieces for the body. BODY: Work MOSS STITCH (in the round) – read description above, over the 61-65-69-75-81-89 front-piece stitches, cast on 5-5-7-7-9-9 stitches (in side under sleeve), work moss stitch over the 61-65-69-75-81-89 back-piece stitches, cast on 5-5-7-7-9-9 stitches (in side under sleeve) = 132-140-152-164-180-196 stitches. Continue with moss stitch in the round until the piece measures 50-52-54-56-58-60 cm, from the top of the shoulder on the front piece. Divide the front and back pieces for a split in each side. Place the 66-70-76-82-90-98 back-piece stitches on a stitch holder and work the front piece. FRONT PIECE: = 66-70-76-82-90-98 stitches. Knit 1 row from the right side and increase 12-12-10-12-12-16 stitches evenly spaced = 78-82-86-94-102-114 stitches. Change to circular needle size 5.5 mm and work as follows from the wrong side: 2 GARTER STITCHES – read description above, * purl 2, knit 2 *, work from *-* and finish with purl 2 and 2 garter stitches. Continue this rib back and forth for 6 cm. Cast off. The jumper measures approx. 56-58-60-62-64-66 cm, from the top of the front shoulder. BACK PIECE: Place the stitches on circular needle size 7 mm = 66-70-76-82-90-98 stitches. Knit 1 row from the right side and increase 12-12-10-12-12-16 stitches evenly spaced = 78-82-86-94-102-114 stitches. Change to circular needle size 5.5 mm and work as follows from the wrong side: 2 garter stitches, * purl 2, knit 2 *, work from *-* and finish with purl 2 and 2 garter stitches. Continue this rib back and forth for 6 cm. Cast off. SLEEVES: Lay the piece flat and insert 1 marker at the top of the armhole (NOTE! This is not where stitches were knitted up but approx. 5-8 cm down the front piece = mid-top of shoulder). Using circular needle size 7 mm, start in the middle of the cast-on stitches under the sleeve and knit up 54-58-62-64-68-72 stitches around the armhole – make sure you have equal numbers of stitches on each side of the marker. Work moss stitch back and forth as follows, with short rows for the sleeve cap (to give the sleeve a better fit). Start mid-under the sleeve. Row 1 (right side): work to 7-7-8-8-9-9 stitches past the marker, turn. Row 2 (wrong side): work 7-7-8-8-9-9 stitches past the marker, turn. Row 3 (right side): work to 3 stitches past the previous turn, turn. Row 4 (wrong side): work to 3 stitches past the previous turn, turn. Repeat rows 3 and 4 until you work 22-22-26-26-27-27 stitches past the marker (6-6-7-7-7-7 turns on each side). Work from the right side to the beginning of the row (mid-under sleeve). Insert 1 marker-thread here, which is used when decreasing under the sleeve. Allow the thread to follow your work onwards. Continue with moss stitch in the round over all stitches. When the sleeve measures 7-7-8-8-8-8 cm, from the knitted-up stitches (all lengths measured mid-top of sleeve), decrease 2 stitches under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 2nd round 3-3-3-4-4-4 times, then every 4½-4-3½-3½-3-2½ cm, 6-7-8-7-8-9 times (a total of 9-10-11-11-12-13 times) = 36-38-40-42-44-46 stitches. Work until the sleeve measures 44-44-43-43-41-39 cm. There is 8 cm left. Try the jumper on and work to desired length before the rib. Knit 1 round and increase 12-10-12-10-12-10 stitches evenly spaced = 48-48-52-52-56-56 stitches. Change to double pointed needles size 5.5 mm. Work rib (knit 2, purl 2) for 8 cm. Cast off. The sleeve measures approx. 52-52-51-51-49-47 cm. NECK: Start on one shoulder-line. Knit up from the right side, inside 1 edge stitch, 80 to 88 stitches around the neckline using circular needle size 5.5 mm. Stitch count must be divisible by 4. Work rib in the round (knit 2, purl 2) for 10 cm. Cast off. ASSEMBLY: If desired, the neck can be folded double to the inside and sew down. To avoid the neck being tight and rolling outwards, it is important that the seam is elastic. |
