------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- HEEL DECREASES: ROW 1 (= right side): Knit until there are 5-6-6 stitches left, slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch, turn the piece. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Purl until there are 5-6-6 stitches left, slip 1 stitch as if to purl, purl 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the purled stitch, turn the piece. ROW 3 (= right side): Knit until there are 4-5-5 stitches left, slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch, turn the piece. ROW 4 (= wrong side): Purl until there are 4-5-5 stitches left, slip 1 stitch as if to purl, purl 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the purled stitch, turn the piece. Continue to decrease like this, working until there is 1 stitch less each time before slipping a stitch and until there are 12-12-14 stitches left on the needle. DECREASE TIP (for toe): Start 3 stitches before the marker, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). Repeat at the second marker. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SOCKS – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked in the round with double pointed needles, top down. The whole piece is worked with 2 strands. LEG: Cast on 56-64-64 stitches with double pointed needles size 4 mm and 1 strand colour guacamole and 1 strand colour off white DROPS Fabel. Knit 1 round. Then work rib (knit 2, purl 2) for 2 cm. On the next round work a new rib (knit 6, purl 2) with 1 strand colour texmex and 1 strand colour off white until the leg measures 14-15-16 cm (make sure the purl-2 continues from the first rib). REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! Change to 1 strand colour guacamole and 1 strand colour off white and continue the same rib (knit 6, purl 2) – on the second round decrease 7-8-8 stitches evenly spaced by knitting together the 2nd and 3rd knitted stitches in each knitted section = 49-56-56 stitches. Continue this rib (knit 5, purl 2) until the leg measures 16-17-18 cm. AT THE SAME TIME on the last round purl 2 together in all purl sections = 42-48-48 stitches. Continue with stocking stitch until the leg measures 18-19-20 cm – on the last round decrease 0-4-0 stitches = 42-44-48 stitches. Cut the strand. HEEL AND FOOT: Keep the first 10-11-12 stitches on the needle for the heel, place the next 22-22-24 stitches on a thread (top of foot) and keep the last 10-11-12 stitches on the needle for the heel = 20-22-24 heel-stitches. Work stocking stitch back and forth with 2 strands colour off white for 6-6-6½ cm. Insert 1 marker in the middle of the last row – the foot is measured from this marker. Work HEEL DECREASES – read description above. After the heel decreases, work as follows with 1 strand colour guacamole and 1 strand colour off white: Work stocking stitch over the 12-12-14 heel stitches, knit up 12-13-13 stitches along the side of the heel, work as before over the 22-22-24 stitches from the thread and knit up 12-13-13 stitches along the other side of the heel = 58-60-64 stitches. Work to the middle of the heel – the round now starts here. Insert 1 marker on each side of the 22-22-24 stitches on top of the foot. Work stocking stitch and decrease on each side as follows: Knit together the last 2 stitches before the first marker and knit twisted together the first 2 stitches after the second marker. Decrease like this each round 4-3-3 times, then every 2nd round 7-7-7 times = 36-40-44 stitches. Continue working until the foot measures 12-13-14 cm from the marker on the heel, measured under the foot. Change to 1 strand colour texmex and 1 strand colour off white. Continue with stocking stitch until the foot measures 16-17-18 cm from the marker, measured under the foot. Change to 2 strands colour off white and work until the foot measures 18-19-20 cm. There is 4-5-6 cm left to finished length; try the sock on and work to desired length. TOE: Insert 1 marker in each side, with 18-20-22 stitches both on top of and under the foot. Work stocking stitch. AT THE SAME TIME on the first round decrease for the toe at each marker – read DECREASE TIP (= 4 stitches decreased). Decrease like this every 2nd round 4-5-7 times then every round 3-3-2 times = 8 stitches left. Cut the strand, pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well. The foot measures approx. 22-24-26 cm from the marker and measured under the foot. Work the other sock in the same way. |
