Dear Bonita, you cast off the middle 14 sts for neck on back piece then finish each shoulder separately casting off 1 stitch at the beg of next row from the neck (from RS on left shoulder/from WS on right shoulder). Then when piece measures 33-36 cm (see size), cast off remaining sts and work 2nd shoulder the same way. Happy knitting!

Hilsen Drops Team.

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows. CASTING-OFF TIP: To avoid the cast-off edge being tight you can cast off with a larger size needle. If the edge is still tight, make 1 yarn over after approx. each 4th stitch at the same time as casting off; the yarn overs are cast off as normal stitches. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- VEST – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked in the round with circular needle bottom up as far as the armholes. Then the front and back pieces are finished separately, back and forth with circular needle and the v-neck is worked on the front piece. To finish, ribbed edging is worked around the neck and armholes. BODY: Cast on 108-116-124-128-136-144 stitches with circular needle size 4 mm and Air. Knit 1 round, then work rib in the round (knit 1, purl 1) for 3 cm. Change to circular needle size 5 mm. Work stocking stitch. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When the piece measures 16-18-21-24-27-30 cm cast off stitches for the armholes as follows: Cast off the first 4 stitches, work the next 46-50-54-56-60-64 stitches (= front piece), cast off 8 stitches, work the next 46-50-54-56-60-64 stitches (= back piece) and cast off the last 4 stitches on the round. Let the stitches for front piece rest in the needle or place them on a thread while working the back piece. BACK PIECE: = 46-50-54-56-60-64 stitches. Start from the wrong side and work stocking stitch back and forth – AT THE SAME TIME cast off for the armholes at the beginning of each row in each side as follows: Cast off 2 stitches 1 time, and cast off 1 stitch 1 time = 40-44-48-50-54-58 stitches. Continue working until the piece measures 31-34-38-42-46-50 cm. On the next row cast off the middle 14-14-16-16-18-18 stitches for neck and finish each shoulder separately. Continue with stocking stitch and cast off 1 stitch on the next row from the neck = 12-14-15-16-17-19 stitches on the shoulder. Continue working until the piece measures 33-36-40-44-48-52 cm. Cast off. Work the other shoulder in the same way. FRONT PIECE: = 46-50-54-56-60-64 stitches. Insert a marker thread in the middle of the row, with 23-25-27-28-30-32 stitches on each side of the thread (the marker thread is used when working the v-neck). READ THE NEXT SECTION BEFORE CONTINUING! Continue with stocking stitch and cast off for the armholes at the beginning of each row in each side as follows: Cast off 2 stitches 1 time, and cast off 1 stitch 1 time = 40-44-48-50-54-58 stitches. AT THE SAME TIME when the piece measures 19-22-25-29-32-36 cm divide the piece and decrease for the neck as follows – from the right side: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker thread, knit 2 together and work 1 edge stitch in GARTER STITCH – read explanation above. Place the remaining 20-22-24-25-27-29 stitches after the marker thread on a thread (without working them). Each shoulder is finished separately; do not cut the strand. The left shoulder is worked first. LEFT SHOULDER (front piece): = 19-21-23-24-26-28 stitches. Work stocking stitch with 1 edge stitch in garter stitch towards the neck, and decrease for neck the same way inside of 1 edge stitch on the end of row from the right side every 1½-1½-1-1-1-1 cm a total of 8-8-9-9-10-10 times (including the first decrease when the front piece was divided) = 12-14-15-16-17-19 stitches on the shoulder. Continue with stocking stitch and 1 edge stitch in garter stitch on each side until the piece measures 33-36-40-44-48-52 cm. Cast off with knit from the right side. RIGHT SHOULDER (front piece): Place the stitches from the thread back onto the needle = 20-22-24-25-27-29 stitches. Work stocking stitch with 1 edge stitch in garter stitch towards the neck, and decrease for the neck on the inside of 1 edge stitch at the beginning of row from the right side every 1½-1½-1-1-1-1 cm (decrease by slipping 1 stitch, knitting 1 and passing the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch) a total of 8-8-9-9-10-10 times = 12-14-15-16-17-19 stitches on the shoulder. Continue with stocking stitch and 1 edge stitch in garter stitch towards the neck until the piece measures 33-36-40-44-48-52 cm. Cast off with knit from the right side. ASSEMBLY: Sew the shoulder seams. ARMHOLES: Use short circular needle or double pointed needles size 4 mm. Start from the right side at the bottom of the armhole and knit up 58-62-66-70-74-78 stitches inside the 1 edge stitch around the armhole (number of stitches should be divisible by 2). Work rib in the round (knit 1, purl 1) for 3 cm. Cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl – read CASTING-OFF TIP! Work the other armhole in the same way. NECK: Use short circular needle size 4 mm. Start from the right side by the shoulder seam and knit up approx. 67-69-75-77-79-83 stitches around the neck (including the stitches on the thread; the number of stitches should be divisible by 2 + 1). Work rib in the round (knit 1, purl 1) – make sure you have a knitted stitch mid front of the v-neck. AT THE SAME TIME on every 2nd round decrease 2 stitches mid front as follows: Work until there is 1 stitch left before the knitted stitch, slip 2 stitches as if to knit together, knit 1 and pass the 2 slipped stitches over the knitted stitch (= 2 stitches decreased). Doing this will give you a neat v-neck and the knitted stitch will give a straight line mid-front. Work this rib for 3 cm. Cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl – remember CASTING-OFF TIP! |
