------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- RIDGE/GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge in height = Knit 2 rows. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.3. The diagrams show all rows in the pattern seen from the right side (note that some rows in the diagrams have pattern worked on each row, i.e. from both right and wrong side). INCREASE TIP-1 (evenly spaced): All increases are worked from the right side! To work out how to increase evenly, count the total number of stitches on needle (e.g. 119 stitches), minus bands (e.g. 10 stitches), and divide the remaining 109 stitches by number of increases to be made (e.g. 36) = 3.1. In this example, increase by making 1 yarn over after approx. each 3rd stitch; do not increase on bands. On the next row (wrong side) purl yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. DECREASE TIP (for mid under sleeves): Decrease 1 stitch on each side of marker thread as follows: Work until there are 2 stitches left before marker thread, knit 2 together, marker thread, slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (= 2 stitches decreased). BUTTONHOLES: Work buttonholes on right band (when garment is worn). Work from the right side when there are 3 stitches left on row as follows: Make 1 yarn over, knit 2 together and knit 1. On the next row (wrong side) knit the yarn over to leave a hole. The first button is buttoned through the row of holes in neck. The first buttonhole is worked when the piece measures approx. 8-9-9-9-9-10 cm from the cast-on edge. Then work the other 5 buttonholes with approx. 7½-8-8-8½-8½-9 cm between each one. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JACKET - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: Neck and yoke are worked back and forth with circular needle from mid front, top down. The yoke is divided for body and sleeves. The body is continued back and forth with circular needle from mid front, top down. The sleeves are worked in the round with short circular needle/double pointed needles, top down. NECK: Cast on 119-123-127-131-135-139 stitches (including 5 band stitches on each side towards mid front) with circular needle size 3 mm and Muskat. The first row is worked as follows (= wrong side): Work A.1A (= 2 stitches) until there is 1 stitch left on row and finish with A.1B (= 1 stitch). Continue this pattern until A.1 has been worked 1 time in height. The next row is worked as follows from the right side: Work 5 band stitches in i GARTER STITCH – read description above, knit until there are 5 stitches left on row and increase at the same time 36-36-38-40-40-42 stitches evenly spaced over these stitches – read INCREASE TIP-1 and finish with 5 band stitches in garter stitch = 155-159-165-171-175-181 stitches. Purl 1 row from the wrong side (bands worked in garter stitch and the yarn overs are purled twisted). Then work yoke as described below. YOKE: Change to circular needle size 4 mm. Work stocking stitch back and forth with 5 band stitches in garter stitch on each side towards mid front. AT THE SAME TIME increase as described below. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When the piece measures 4-5-5-5-6-6 cm from the cast-on edge increase 34-44-50-58-60-62 stitches evenly spaced = 189-203-215-229-235-243 stitches. Continue with stocking stitch and remember BUTTONHOLES on right band – read description above. When the piece measures 6-7-8-9-10-11 cm from the cast-on edge increase 32-38-46-52-56-58 stitches evenly spaced = 221-241-261-281-291-301 stitches. Purl 1 row (bands worked in garter stitch). Then work the next row as follows from the right side: 5 band stitches in garter stitch, work A.2A (= 10 stitches), A.2B until there are 16 stitches left on row (= 19-21-23-25-26-27 repeats of 10 stitches), A.2C (= 11 stitches) and finish with 5 band stitches in garter stitch. Continue this pattern – NOTE: Be aware that on rows 8, 10 and 12 you work pattern from the wrong side as well. When A.2 has been completed there are 263-287-311-335-347-359 stitches on the needle. Continue with stocking stitch and 5 band stitches in garter stitch on each side. AT THE SAME TIME increase as described below. When the piece measures 15-16-17-18-20-21 cm from the cast-on edge increase 14-20-22-24-32-34 stitches evenly spaced = 277-307-333-359-379-393 stitches. When the piece measures 17-18-19-21-23-25 cm from the cast-on edge, increase 14-14-20-22-32-34 stitches evenly spaced = 291-321-353-381-411-427 stitches. Continue with stocking stitch and 5 band stitches in garter stitch on each side towards mid front until the piece measures 18-20-22-24-26-28 cm from the cast-on edge mid front. Now divide the yoke for body and sleeves; i.e. on next row work as follows from the wrong side: Work 49-51-55-60-67-71 stitches in garter stitch and stocking stitch as before (= front piece), place the next 53-63-71-75-77-77 stitches on 1 thread for sleeve, cast on 8-8-10-10-12-14 new stitches on needle (= in side under sleeve), work 87-93-101-111-123-131 stitches in stocking stitch as before (= back piece), place the next 53-63-71-75-77-77 stitches on 1 thread for sleeve, cast on 8-8-10-10-12-14 new stitches on needle (= in side under sleeve) and work the remaining 49-51-55-60-67-71 stitches in stocking stitch and garter stitch as before (= front piece). Body and sleeves are finished separately. THE PIECE IS NOW MEASURED FROM HERE! BODY: = 201-211-231-251-281-301 stitches. The first row is worked as follows from the right side: Work 5 band stitches in garter stitch, A.3A (= 10 stitches), A.3B until there are 16 stitches left on row (= 17-18-20-22-25-27 repeats of 10 stitches), work A.3C (= 11 stitches) and finish with 5 band stitches in garter stitch. Continue this pattern. When A.3 has been completed, knit 1 row from the right side where you increase 10 stitches evenly spaced in all sizes = 211-221-241-261-291-311 stitches. Repeat this increase when the piece measures 14-14-14-14-16-16 cm from the division = 221-231-251-271-301-321 stitches. The next row is worked as follows from the right side: Work 5 band stitches in garter stitch, A.3A (= 10 stitches), A.3B until there are 16 stitches left on row (= 19-20-22-24-27-29 repeats of 10 stitches), work A.3C (= 11 stitches) and finish with 5 band stitches in garter stitch. Continue this pattern. When A.3 has been completed, continue with stocking stitch and 5 band stitches in garter stitch on each side towards mid front until the piece measures 28 cm from the division in all sizes (or to desired length; there is 4 cm to finished length). Knit 1 row from the right side where you increase 62-70-74-84-90-100 stitches evenly spaced = 283-301-325-355-391-421 stitches. This is done so that the rib is not tight. Change to circular needle size 3 mm. The next row is worked as follows from the wrong side: 5 band stitches in garter stitch, * purl 3, knit 3 * work from *-* until there are 8 stitches left on row, purl 3 and finish with 5 band stitches in garter stitch. Continue this rib for 4 cm. Change to circular needle size 4 mm. Loosely cast off with garter stitch over garter stitch, knit over knit and purl over purl. Jacket measures approx. 56-58-60-62-64-66 cm from the shoulder down. SLEEVE: Place the 53-63-71-75-77-77 stitches from the thread on the one side of the piece on short circular needle or double pointed needles size 4 mm and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 8-8-10-10-12-14 stitches cast on under sleeve = 61-71-81-85-89-91 stitches. Insert 1 marker thread in the middle of the 8-8-10-10-12-14 stitches under the sleeve. Allow the marker thread to follow your work onwards – it will be used when decreasing mid under sleeve. Start the round by the marker thread and work the first round as follows: Work 0-0-0-2-4-0 stitches in stocking stitch, work A.3A (= 10 stitches), A.3B over the next 40-50-60-60-60-70 stitches (= 4-5-6-6-6-7 repeats of 10 stitches), A.3C (= 11 stitches) and finish with 0-0-0-2-4-0 stitches in stocking stitch. Continue this pattern until A.3 has been worked 1 time in height, then work stocking stitch in the round. AT THE SAME TIME when the piece measures 3-3-2-2-2-2 cm from the division, decrease 2 stitches mid under sleeve – read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 3½-2-1½-1-1-1 cm a total of 5-9-13-13-14-14 times = 51-53-55-59-61-63 stitches (stitches which do not fit into A.3 when decreasing are worked in stocking stitch). Work stocking stitch in the round until the sleeve measures 29-27-26-24-23-21 cm from the division (or to desired length; there is approx. 4 cm left to finished length. NOTE: Shorter measurements in larger sizes due to wider neck and longer yoke). Knit 1 round where you increase 15-19-17-19-17-21 stitches evenly spaced = 66-72-72-78-78-84 stitches. This is done to avoid the rib being tight. Change to double pointed needles size 3 mm and work rib in the round (= knit 3 / purl 3) for 4 cm. Change back to double pointed needles size 4 mm. Loosely cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl. The sleeve measures approx. 33-31-30-28-27-25 cm from the division. Work the other sleeve in the same way. ASSEMBLY: Sew buttons onto left band. |
