Hi.I love these slippers and would like to make them for a family member but feel the need to safeguard the soles so that the child does not slip. Do you have any advice please for treating the soles so that the child will not slip? Thanks.Pam

Dear Pam, please understand, that unfortunately, even though we have heard of some of our customers using puff-paint (available in many craft-store) on the soles of the slippers, we are not qualified to advise you on them. Happy Crafting!

Stricken? Am Anfang? Wo man will?

I don't want to felt these slippers; do I need to adjust the size to just do straight knitting?
25.12.2019 - 18:49DROPS Design answered:
Dear Nancy, the pattern is written with felting n mind, so the piece befoe feltingwould be way to big for a child. If you want to do it withouth felting you will have t do some recalculations of the stitch and row numbers. However, we think, felting is fun, maybe you do reconsider and give it a try? Happy Crafting!

I dont understand how to sew up the slippers. What happens at the cuff and the button strap? Help!
20.10.2019 - 13:05DROPS Design answered:
Dear Sheila, fold the cast-on edge double and sew the stitches on mid back together. then sew the seam on upper foot (do not sew along the leg on front) from the top of upper foot towards toe (or from the toe along the upper foot, just before leg); after felting place the button strand over the leg and sew button in both layers. Happy assembly!

RIGHT SLIPPER: Worked back and forth in one piece and sewn tog mid back and mid on top of foot when finished. If you want slippers with stripes, work 2 rows grey and 2 rows light grey alternately upwards. Cast on (52-54-56) 60-62-66-70 sts on needle size 5 mm with grey. Insert a marker in middle of piece. K 1 row. Work next row as follows: * K until 1 st remains before marker, make 1 YO, K 2 sts and make 1 more YO, K the rest of row. P next row with 2 K sts in each side - P YOs twisted to avoid holes (i.e. work in back loop of st) *. Repeat from *-* 1 more time = (56-58-60) 64-66-70-74 sts. Continue in stocking st but work 1 st in each side K on every row. When piece measures approx. (9-9½-10) 10½-11-12-12½ cm (adjust so that next row is worked from RS), K the first (8-8-8) 9-9-9-9 sts before slipping them on a stitch holder (for button strap), then cast off the next (2-2-2) 2-2-3-3 sts, work the rest of row. Turn piece and cast off the first (10-10-10) 11-11-12-12 sts = (36-38-40) 42-44-46-50 sts remain on needle. Continue in stocking st until finished measurements – AT THE SAME TIME dec 1 st at the beg of every row (2-2-3) 3-3-3-3 times in each side = (32-34-34) 36-38-40-44 sts. When piece measures (14-16-19) 21-23-25-27 cm in total, K all sts tog 2 by 2 from RS. Work 1 row without dec, then K all sts tog 2 by 2 one more time = (8-9-9) 9-10-10-11 sts remain. Cut the thread and pull it through the remaining sts and tighten tog. BUTTON STRAP: Slip the (8-8-8) 9-9-9-9 sts from stitch holder back on needle size 5 mm. (On the slipper with stripes, work the entire button strap with grey.) K back and forth (= garter st) until strap measures (6-7-8) 9-10-11-12 cm. Now cast off the middle (2-2-2) 3-3-3-3 sts for button hole. On next row cast on (2) 3 new sts over the cast off sts. Then dec at the end of every row by K 2 tog until only (2) 3 sts remain on needle. Cut the thread and pull it through the remaining sts, tighten tog and fasten. LEFT SLIPPER: Work as right slipper until piece measures (9-9½-10) 10½-11-12-12½ cm. Work next row as follows: Cast off the first (10-10-10) 11-11-12-12 sts, work the rest of row. Turn, work the first (8-8-8) 9-9-9-9 sts and then slip them on a stitch holder, cast off the next (2-2-2) 2-2-3-3 sts = (36-38-40) 42-44-46-50 sts remain on needle. Continue as on right slipper. EARS: Cast on (6-6-6) 7-7-8-8 sts on needle size 5 mm with grey. K back and forth - AT THE SAME TIME on second row, K the last 2 sts tog. Repeat dec at the end of every other row until all sts have been dec (dec only in one side). Work 2 ears for each slipper. ASSEMBLY: Fold the slipper double and sew tog mid back and mid on top on foot – sew edge to edge in front loop of outermost st to avoid a chunky seam. Sew ears on top of foot – fasten in the side on ears where sts were dec. FELTING: Place the slippers in the washing machine with a detergent without enzymes and optical bleach. Wash at 40 degrees with normal spin but no pre-wash. After wash shape the slippers to the right size while still wet and leave to dry flat. At subsequent wash, wash the slippers at regular wool programme. FACE: Embroider on a red mouth and black eyes, nose and whiskers as on picture. BUTTON: Sew on 1 button on each slipper so that they fit the button holes. Try the slipper on to ensure correct width around the ankle. AFTER FELTING: If the piece is not felted enough and is too big: Wash the piece one more time in the washing machine while it is still wet add a terry towel that measures approx. 50 x 70 cm - NOTE: Do not use a short program. If the piece has been felted too much and is too small: While the piece is still wet stretch it to the correct measurements, if the piece is dry, make sure to soak it first. Remember: All subsequent washes are as a normal wool garment. |
