---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.3. Diagrams show all rows in pattern seen from the right side. NOTE! Work pattern on front piece and back piece, and stocking stitch on sleeves. Work the increased stitches in pattern but work the stitches in stocking stitch until there is room for a whole new lace pattern in width. NOTE! Avoid working a lace pattern right up to the transition between front piece/back piece and sleeves. INCREASE TIP-1: INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE LEFT- from RIGHT SIDE: Use left needle to pick up yarn between 2 stitches from row below, pick up yarn from the front and knit stitch in stitch loop behind the needle. INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE RIGHT - from RIGHT SIDE: Use left needle to pick up yarn between 2 stitches from row below, pick up yarn from the back and knit stitch in stitch loop in front of needle. INCREASE TIP-2: INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE RIGHT - from WRONG SIDE: Use left needle to pick up yarn between 2 stitches from row below, pick up yarn from the back and purl stitch in stitch loop in front of needle. INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE LEFT - from WRONG SIDE: Use left needle to pick up yarn between 2 stitches from row below, pick up yarn from the front and purl stitch in stitch loop behind the needle. SLEEVE TIP: When picking up stitches mid under sleeve, there will be a small hole in the transition between stitches on body and sleeves. The holes can be closed by picking up the strand between two stitches - work this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve to close the hole. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of marker thread as follows: Work until 3 stitches remain before marker thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker thread is between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked (= 2 stitches decreased). ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: In this pattern needles of different length have been used, begin with fitting length for number of stitches and switch as needed. Garment is worked as point 1 - 5. 1. BACK PIECE: Cast on stitches in the back of neck and work back piece back and forth downwards while at the same time increasing in each side of piece until number of stitches for shoulder width is reached. Back piece has a slight diagonal shoulder. 2. FRONT PIECE: Worked in 2 parts (= each side of neck). Begin by picking up stitches along one shoulder on back piece, work front piece downwards while increasing towards the neck. Repeat on the other shoulder, then cast on new stitches for neck mid front = put front pieces together into one part. Work front piece back and forth until given measurements. 3. YOKE: On next round work all stitches on same circular needle - work as follows: Work stitches on front piece, pick up stitches for sleeve along the side on front piece, work back piece, pick up stitches for sleeve along the other side on front piece = then work yoke in the round over all stitches - work a lace pattern on front piece and back piece and work stocking stitch on sleeves. 4. INCREASES FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: When working the yoke, increase stitches for body and sleeves, first increase for sleeves and then increase for both body and sleeves. 5. BODY AND SLEEVES: When all stitches have been increased and yoke is knitted to given measurements, divide the piece for body and sleeves. Work body downwards in the round on needle while putting the sleeves aside. Then work sleeves downwards in the round on needle. Finish by picking up stitches around the neck and work a neck edge in the round. BACK PIECE: Work piece back and forth on circular needle. Cast on 41-43-45-47-49-53-57 stitches on circular needle size 3 mm with DROPS Baby Merino or DROPS Safran. ROW 1 (= wrong side): Purl all stitches. ROW 2 (= right side): Read INCREASE TIP-1 and knit 3, increase 1 stitch towards the left, knit until 3 stitches remain, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 3. ROW 3 (= wrong side): Read INCREASE TIP-2 and purl 3, increase 1 stitch towards the right, purl until 3 stitches remain, increase 1 stitch towards the left, purl 3. AFTER 3RD ROW: Work 2nd and 3rd ROW 13-14-14-14-14-14-15 times (= 26-28-28-28-28-28-30 rows have been worked), after increase there are 93-99-101-103-105-109-117 stitches on needle. Cut the yarn, slip stitches on a thread or a stitch holder. LEFT SHOULDER: Find left shoulder on back piece as follows: Place back piece flat with right side up, place back piece so that stitches on thread/stitch holder is towards you, left side of piece = left shoulder. Now pick up stitches along left diagonal shoulder on back piece– begin from right side at the neck and pick up stitches out towards the armhole as follows: Pick up 1 stitch in every worked row inside outermost stitch = 26-28-28-28-28-28-30 stitches for shoulder. Insert 1 marker in piece in towards the neck. All length measurements are done from this marker, measured in stitch direction. Work in stocking stitch (work first row from wrong side). When piece measures 5-5-6-6-6-6-7 cm, increase stitches towards the neck as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Remember INCREASE TIP-1 and knit 3, increase 1 stitch towards the left, knit the rest of row. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Purl without increasing. Work 1st and 2nd ROW 6 times in total (= 12 rows have been worked) = 32-34-34-34-34-34-36 stitches. Then increase stitches towards the neck as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Remember INCREASE TIP-1 and knit 3, increase 1 stitch towards the left, knit the rest of row. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Purl without increasing. ROW 3 (= right side): Knit without increasing. ROW 4 (= wrong side): Purl without increasing. Work 1st and 4th ROW 2-2-2-2-3-3-3 times (= 8-8-8-8-12-12-12 rows have been worked) = 34-36-36-36-37-37-39 stitches. Increases for neck are now done. Piece now measures 11-11-12-12-13-13-14 cm from marker. 2-2-3-3-3-3-3 cm of the neck depth will be over on back piece. Slip stitches on a thread or stitch holder, now work right shoulder along the right diagonal shoulder on back piece as explained below. RIGHT SHOULDER: Now pick up stitches along right diagonal shoulder on back piece - begin from right side at the armhole and pick up stitches in towards the neck as follows: Pick up 1 stitch in every worked row inside outermost stitch = 26-28-28-28-28-28-30 stitches for shoulder. Insert 1 marker in piece in towards the neck. All length measurements are done from this marker, measured in stitch direction. Work in stocking stitch (work first row from wrong side). When piece measures 5-5-6-6-6-6-7 cm, increase stitches towards the neck as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Knit until 3 stitches remain, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 3 – remember INCREASE TIP-1. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Purl without increasing. Work 1st and 2nd ROW 6 times in total (= 12 rows have been worked) = 32-34-34-34-34-34-36 stitches. Then increase stitches towards the neck as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Knit until 3 stitches remain, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 3 – remember INCREASE TIP-1. Now slip shoulders together for front piece as explained below. FRONT PIECE: On next row (= right side) put shoulders together for front piece as follows: Knit the 34-36-36-36-37-37-39 stitches from right shoulder, cast on 25-27-29-31-31-35-39 stitches for neck at the end of this row, knit the 34-36-36-36-37-37-39 stitches from left shoulder = 93-99-101-103-105-109-117 stitches. Work in stocking stitch back and forth until piece measures 12-12-13-13-14-14-15 cm from marker – work last row from wrong side. Then slip front piece and back piece together, and pick up stitches for sleeves, work as explained below. ROW 1 (= right side): Knit the first 2 stitches from front piece together (= 1 stitch decreased), knit until 2 stitches remain on front piece, slip 1 stitch, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over (= 1 stitch decreased), insert 1 marker, pick up 32-32-34-34-36-36-40 stitches along the side on left front piece (= stitches for sleeve - pick up stitches inside outermost stitch), insert 1 marker, knit the first 2 stitches from back piece together (= 1 stitch decreased), knit until 2 stitches remain on back piece, slip 1 stitch, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over (= 1 stitch decreased), insert 1 marker, pick up 32-32-34-34-36-36-40 stitches along the side on right piece (= stitches for sleeve - pick up stitches inside outermost stitch), insert 1 marker = 246-258-266-270-278-286-310 stitches. YOKE: Then work piece in the round. ROUND 1: Knit over all stitches and increase 1 stitch in each side of each sleeve - remember INCREASE TIP-1 - increase 1 stitch towards the left at the beginning of sleeve, increase 1 stitch towards the right at the end of sleeve, number of stitches on each sleeve increases, number of stitches on front piece and back piece stays the same. Work this round 3 times = 38-38-40-40-42-42-46 stitches on each sleeve and 91-97-99-101-103-107-115 stitches on front piece/back piece) = 258-270-278-282-290-298-322 stitches. Then work in the round as follows: ROUND 1: Knit all stitches and increase 1 stitch in each side of each sleeve as before – remember INCREASE TIP-1, number of stitches on each sleeve increase, number of stitches on front piece and back piece stays the same. ROUND 2: Knit all stitches without increasing = 262-274-282-286-294-302-326 stitches. Now work PATTERN on front piece and back piece - read explanation above and work as follows: ROUND 3: Knit 3-6-7-8-9-3-7, A.1, work A.2 5-5-5-5-5-6-6 times in total, knit 3-6-7-8-9-3-7 (= front piece), move marker on to right needle, increase 1 stitches towards the left, knit until next marker, increase 1 stitch towards the right, move marker on to right needle, knit 3-6-7-8-9-3-7, A.1, work A.2 5-5-5-5-5-6-6 times in total, knit 3-6-7-8-9-3-7 (= back piece), move marker on to right needle, increase 1 stitch towards the left, knit until next marker, increase 1 stitch towards the right, move marker on to right needle. ROUND 4: Work pattern and stocking stitch as explained above without increasing. Work 3rd and 4th ROUND 8-7-5-6-5-2-1 times in total (= 16-14-10-12-10-4-2 rounds worked. 12-11-9-10-9-6-5 increases have been done in total on sleeves = 56-54-52-54-54-48-50 stitches on each sleeve and 91-97-99-101-103-107-115 stitches on front piece/back piece) = 294-302-302-310-314-310-330 stitches. Then increase on both sleeves and body, increase on body 2 stitches inside marker so that there are 2 stitches between increase for body and increase for sleeve - work next round as follows: ROUND 1: Knit 2, increase 1 stitch towards the left, work pattern as before until 2 stitches remain on front piece before first marker, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 2, move marker on to right needle, increase 1 stitch towards the left, knit until next marker, increase 1 stitch towards the right, move the marker on to right needle (= sleeve), knit 2, increase 1 stitch towards the left, work pattern as before until 2 stitches on back piece remain before marker, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 2, move marker on to right needle, increase 1 stitch towards the left, knit until next marker (= sleeve), increase 1 stitch towards the right, move marker on to right needle (= sleeve). 8 stitches have been increased, i.e. 1 stitch has been increased on each side of 2 stitches in every transition between body and sleeves. ROUND 2: Work pattern and stocking stitch as explained above without increasing. Work 1st and 2nd ROUND 11-13-16-19-23-28-31 times in total (= 22-26-32-38-46-56-62 rounds worked). 23-24-25-29-32-34-36 increases have been done in total on sleeves and 11-13-16-19-23-28-31 increases on body = 78-80-84-92-100-104-112 stitches on each sleeve and 113-123-131-139-149-163-177 stitches on front piece/back piece) = 382-406-430-462-498-534-578 stitches. Sleeve measures approx. 13-13-14-16-18-19-20 cm - when the jumper is folded double at the shoulder, piece 19-19-21-23-25-26-28 cm from the edge on shoulder and down along the armhole. If the garment is shorter than this, continue until correct measurements without increases. Now divide yoke for body and sleeves. DIVIDING FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: AT THE SAME TIME as next round is worked divide yoke for body and sleeves as follows: Work the first 113-123-131-139-149-163-177 stitches in pattern as before (= front piece), slip the next 78-80-84-92-100-104-112 stitches on a thread for sleeve, cast on 6-8-10-12-14-16-18 new stitches on needle (= in the side mid under sleeve), work the next 113-123-131-139-149-163-177 stitches in pattern as before (= back piece), slip the next 78-80-84-92-100-104-112 stitches on a thread for sleeve, cast on 6-8-10-12-14-16-18 new stitches on needle (= in the side mid under sleeve). Finish body and sleeves separately. BODY: = 238-262-282-302-326-358-390 stitches. Insert 1 marker thread in each side on body, in the middle of the 6-8-10-12-14-16-18 new stitches - move the marker threads when working, use the marker threads when decreasing in the sides on body. Work the established pattern as before on front piece and back piece and work A.3 over the middle 2 stitches in each side (marker thread is in the middle of A.3). Continue the pattern like this - NOTE: Work A.1 and A.2 as far as possible towards A.3 in each side but make sure that there is at least 4 stitches in stocking stitch between A.1/A.2 and A.3. Work like this until piece measures 46-48-49-51-52-54-56 cm from cast-on edge mid back of neck but adjust so that at least 8 to 10 rounds in stocking stitch have been worked after last row with lace pattern in A.1/A.2 (A.3 continue in each side as before). Switch to circular needle size 2.5 mm, work rib (= knit 2/purl 2) while AT THE SAME TIME on 1st round increasing 29-29-31-37-41-45-45 stitches evenly on front piece and 29-29-31-37-41-45-45 stitches evenly on back piece (do not increase over A.3 in each side – adjust the rib to work 2 knit stitch over stitches in A.3) = 296-320-344-376-408-448-480 stitches. When rib measures 2-2-2-2-3-3-3 cm, cast off all stitches somewhat loosely with knit over knit and purl over purl. Jumper measures approx. 48-50-51-53-55-57-59 cm from cast-on edge at the back of neck and 50-52-54-56-58-60-62 cm from the top of shoulder. SLEEVES: Slip 78-80-84-92-100-104-112 sleeve stitches from one thread on to circular needle size 3 mm and pick in addition up 1 stitch in each of the 6-8-10-12-14-16-18 stitches cast on under sleeve - read SLEEVE TIP = 84-88-94-104-114-120-130 stitches. Insert 1 marker in the middle of the 6-8-10-12-14-16-18 new stitches under sleeve - round begins at the marker thread. Work in stocking stitch in the round on needle - AT THE SAME TIME when 1 round has been worked after division, decrease mid under sleeve – read DECREASE TIP and decrease as follows: Decrease 2 stitches 2-2-2-3-3-4-6 times on every other round, then decrease 2 stitches 4-3-3-5-6-6-3 times every 3-3-3-1½-1-1-1 cm = 72-78-84-88-96-100-112 stitches on needle. Work until sleeve measures 14-14-13-12-9-9-7 cm from division - AT THE SAME TIME on last round decrease 4-6-6-4-8-6-14 stitches evenly = 68-72-78-84-88-94-98 stitches. Knit 1 round. Switch to double pointed needles size 2.5 mm and work rib (= knit 2/purl 2) while AT THE SAME TIME increasing 4-8-6-4-8-6-10 stitches evenly on 1st round = 72-80-84-88-96-100-108 stitches. When rib measures 2-2-2-2-3-3-3 cm, cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl. Sleeve measures approx. 29-29-29-30-30-31-30 cm from shoulder. NECK EDGE: Begin from right side at shoulder line and pick up approx. 112-120-128-136-144-148-156 stitches around the neck on circular needle size 2.5 mm. Knit 1 round and adjust number of stitches if needed - number must be divisible by 4. Then work rib (= knit 2/purl 2 - adjust rib so that it fits with 2 knit stitches over each shoulder line on back piece). When rib measures 2-2-2½-2½-3-3-3 cm, cast off all stitches somewhat loosely with knit over knit and purl over purl. |
