Dear Cynthia, probably but it might be much easier to follow another pattern which is worked bottom up - find some here. Happy knitting!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagram A.1. Choose diagram for your size. INCREASE TIP-1 (evenly spaced): To work out how to increase evenly, count the total number of stitches on the needle (e.g. 108 stitches) and divide by the number of increases to be made (e.g. 20) = 5.4. In this example, increase by making 1 yarn over after alternately each 5th and 6th stitch. On the next round work the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. INCREASE TIP-2 (for saddle shoulders): BEFORE MARKER: The new stitch twists to the right. Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the previous round, pick up the back strand and knit in the front loop. AFTER MARKER: The new stitch twists to the left. Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the previous round, pick up the front strand and knit in the back loop. DECREASE TIP (for sleeves): Decrease 1 stitch on either side of the marker thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). CASTING-OFF TIP: To avoid the cast-off edge being tight you can cast off with a larger size needle. If the edge is still tight, make 1 yarn over after approx. each 4th stitch at the same time as casting off; the yarn overs are cast off as normal stitches. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The neck and yoke are worked in the round with circular needle, from mid back and top down. Stitches are increased for the saddle shoulders. The yoke is divided for the body and sleeves and the body is continued in the round with circular needle. The sleeves are worked with double pointed needles/short circular needle, top down. NECK: Cast on 56-56-56-64-64-64 stitches with short circular needle size 7 mm and DROPS Wish. Knit 1 round. The next round is worked as follows: Purl 1, * knit 2, purl 2 *, work from *-* until there are 3 stitches left, knit 2 and purl 1. Continue this rib for 6-6-6-7-7-7 cm. On the next round insert 4 markers, at the same time as you work the stitches and they are inserted between 2 stitches as follows: Knit 9 and increase 1-1-1-2-2-2 stitches evenly over these 9 stitches (= ½ back piece), insert marker 1 before the next stitch, work A.1 over the next 10-10-10-14-14-14 stitches (= shoulder), insert marker 2 before the next stitch, knit 18 and increase 2-2-2-4-4-4 stitches evenly over these stitches (= front piece), insert marker 3 before the next stitch, work A.1 over the next 10-10-10-14-14-14 stitches (= shoulder), insert marker 4 before the next stitch, knit 9 and increase 1-1-1-2-2-2 stitches evenly over these stitches = 60-60-60-72-72-72 stitches. Allow the markers to follow your work onwards; they are used when increasing for the shoulders. YOKE WITH INCREASES TO SADDLE SHOULDERS: Insert a marker thread at the beginning of the round (= mid-back) – THE YOKE IS MEASURED FROM HERE! Change to circular needle size 8 mm. Work stocking stitch with A.1 over the 10-10-10-14-14-14 stitches on each shoulder. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! AT THE SAME TIME, on the first round increase 4 stitches as follows: Increase BEFORE markers 1 and 3 and AFTER markers 2 and 4 – read INCREASE TIP. You are only increasing on the front and back pieces; the number of stitches on the shoulders remains the same. Increase like this EACH round a total of 22-26-28-29-31-36 times = 148-164-172-188-196-216 stitches. Work 1 round without increasing, increase as before on the next round, work 3 rounds without increasing, increase as before on the next round, work 5 rounds without increasing, increase as before on the next round. After the last increase there are 160-176-184-200-208-228 stitches and the yoke measures approx. 23-25-27-27-29-32 cm from the marker thread. If the piece is shorter than this, continue working without further increases to the correct measurement. On the next round divide for the body and sleeves as follows: Knit 24-26-27-30-32-36 (= ½ back piece), place the next 32-36-38-40-40-42 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 6-6-8-8-10-10 stitches (= in side under sleeve), knit 48-52-54-60-64-72 (= front piece), place the next 32-36-38-40-40-42 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 6-6-8-8-10-10 stitches (= in side under sleeve), knit 24-26-27-30-32-36 (= ½ back piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. THE PIECE IS NOW MEASURED FROM HERE! BODY: = 108-116-124-136-148-164 stitches. Insert 1 marker in the middle of the cast-on stitches under one sleeve. Start at the marker and work stocking stitch in the round for 27-27-28-28-28-27 cm. There is approx. 6 cm left to finished length; try the jumper on and work to desired length. To avoid the following rib being tight, knit 1 round where you increase 20-20-24-24-28-32 stitches evenly spaced – read INCREASE TIP-1 = 128-136-148-160-176-196 stitches. Change to circular needle size 7 mm and work rib (knit 2, purl 2) for 6 cm. Cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl – read CASTING-OFF TIP. The jumper measures approx. 60-62-64-66-68-70 cm from the shoulder down. SLEEVES: Place the 32-36-38-40-40-42 stitches from the thread on the one side of the piece on double pointed needles/short circular needle size 8 mm and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 6-6-8-8-10-10 stitches cast on under the sleeve = 38-42-46-48-50-52 stitches. Insert a marker thread in the middle of the new stitches under the sleeve. Start at the marker thread and work stocking stitch in the round, continuing A.1 over the middle 10-10-10-14-14-14 stitches on top of the sleeve. When the piece measures 4 cm, decrease 2 stitches under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 6½-4½-3½-3½-3-2½ cm a total of 6-8-9-9-10-10 times = 26-26-28-30-30-32 stitches. Work until the sleeve measures 39-38-37-37-36-34 cm from the division (shorter measurements in larger sizes due to wider neck and longer yoke). There is approx. 6 cm left to finished length; try the jumper on and work to desired length. Knit 1 round and increase as follows: Knit 8-8-9-8-8-9 and increase 1-1-2-1-3-2 stitches over these stitches, continue A.1 over the next 10-10-10-14-14-14 stitches, knit 8-8-9-8-8-9 and increase 1-1-2-1-3-2 stitches over these stitches = 28-28-32-32-36-36 stitches. Change to double pointed needles size 7 mm and work rib as follows: SIZES S, M and XL: Purl 1, * knit 2, purl 2 *, work from *-* until there are 3 stitches left, knit 2 and purl 1. SIZES L, XXL and XXXL: Knit 1, * purl 2, knit 2 *, work from *-* until there are 3 stitches left, purl 2, knit 1. Continue this rib for 6 cm. Cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl – remember CASTING-OFF TIP! The sleeve measures approx. 49-48-48-47-46-44 cm from the division. Work the other sleeve in the same way. |
