I am starting 9-21. After knitting M.2it says to bind off 3 st for armhole for front and 6 st for armhole and then bind off 3. Then it says front and back are worked separately. How do I do this?

Hi Maybeth, You work the stitches for the front piece after binding off the first 3 stitches, then bind off 6 stitches for the second armhole, work the back piece and finally bind off the last 3 stitches for the first armhole. You now have gaps between the front and back pieces. You can carry the strand forward over the 3 first bound-off stitches or cut the strand and begin on the front piece which is continued back and forth. When the front piece is finished, work the back piece back and forth. Happy knitting!

How do I know the length of double point needles to use for pattern 9-21? I have just started the body of the sweater on the round needle. What does it mean to knit the front and back seperately/ I under stand to knit in the round until M2 is completed for size 3/4 and the bind off instructions. Then am I suppose to be using double pointed needles for front and back sections??? I love this pattern. Thank you in advance for helping me.

Hi Melissa, You can continue to use the circular needle for the front and back pieces, as double pointed needles would be a bit short for this part of the piece. You work the front and back pieces separately, back and forth on the circular needle. Happy knitting!

Bon tricot!

Pramila, the pattern explains how to first cast off 3 sts, then work your way to other side and cast off 6 sts, then end round with cast off another 3 sts, this will make it 6 sts each side. And reason why not starting with 6 is because you want the 6 sts to be cast off each side of the beginning of the round since that is the side of your garment.

It means 6 stiches at each side, as it is round. Older patterns are confusing!
