Hi, could you tell me why change from the border rib to the main body we need to decrease stitches instead of increasing as we usually do. Any help on this would be very much appreciated. Jessie
03.02.2017 - 17:00DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Koenig, you are decreasing sts after ribbing to get the correct measurements with larger needles. Happy knitting!

PATTERN: See diagrams M.1 to M.4 – diagrams are worked in stocking st. -------------------------------------------------------- BODY: Worked in the round on circular needle. Cast on 250-272-294-326-348-376 sts on circular needle size 3 mm with anthracite Karisma. Work rib = K 1/P 1 for 6 cm. Switch to circular needle size 4 mm and K 1 round while AT THE SAME TIME dec 60-62-64-76-78-86 sts evenly = 190-210-230-250-270-290 sts. Insert a marker at beg of round and a marker after 95-105-115-125-135-145 sts (these marks the sides). Continue in stocking st and with diagram M.1. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When piece measures approx. 41-41-44½-48-48-51½ cm – adjust after one whole or half repetition of diagram M.1 vertically, work diagram M.2, then continue with diagram M.3 until finished measurements. AT THE SAME TIME when piece measures 46-47-48-49-50-51 cm, divide piece at markers and finish front and back piece separately, back and forth on circular needle. BACK PIECE: = 95-105-115-125-135-145 sts. Continue diagram M.3 while AT THE SAME TIME casting on new sts at the end of every row in each side for sleeves/broad shoulder as follows: 2 sts 2 times and 7-4-2-1-0-0 sts 1 time = 117-121-127-135-143-153 sts. Continue to work until piece measures 64-66-68-70-72-74 cm. Now cast off the middle 31-31-33-33-35-35 sts for neck and finish each shoulder separately. Continue to cast off 2 sts on next row from neck = 41-43-45-49-52-57 sts remain on the shoulder. Continue to work and cast off all sts when piece measures 66-68-70-72-74-76 cm. FRONT PIECE: = 95-105-115-125-135-145 sts. Continue diagram M.3 while AT THE SAME TIME casting on new sts in each side as on back piece = 117-121-127-135-143-153 sts. When piece measures 49-51-53-55-57-59 cm, cast off the middle 11 sts mid front for neck vent and finish each side separately. Work back and forth until piece measures 61-63-65-67-69-71 cm. Now cast off at the beg of every row from mid front as follows: 5-5-6-6-7-7 sts 1 time, 2 sts 2 times and then 1 st 3 times = 41-43-45-49-52-57 sts remain on shoulder. Continue to work and cast off all sts when piece measures 66-68-70-72-74-76 cm. SLEEVE: Worked in the round on double pointed needles, switch to circular needle when needed. Cast on 62-64-66-68-70-72 sts on double pointed needles size 3 mm with anthracite. Work rib = K 1/P 1 for 6 cm. Switch to double pointed needles size 4 mm and K 1 round while AT THE SAME TIME dec 11-13-13-15-15-17 sts evenly = 51-51-53-53-55-55 sts. Insert a marker at beg of round (= mid under sleeve) and continue in stocking st and with diagram M.4 (st with arrow in diagram = mid on top of sleeve – count out towards the side). After diagram M.4, work diagram M.3 until finished measurements. AT THE SAME TIME when piece measures 7-7-7-9-9-9 cm, inc 1 st on each side of marker. Repeat inc a total of 13-15-16-18-19-21 times in Size S: Every 10th round, Size M and L: Every 8th round, Size XL: Every 6th round, Size XXL: Alternately on every 5th and 6th round and Size XXXL: Every 5th round = 77-81-85-89-93-97 sts. When piece measures 51-51-51-50-49-47 cm (shorter measurements in the larger sizes because of longer sleeve cap and broader shoulder width), cast off 6 sts mid under sleeve and work back and forth on circular needle until finished measurements. Then cast off 3 sts at the beg of the next 4 rows = 59-63-67-71-75-79 sts. Cast off, piece measures approx. 53-53-53-52-51-49 cm. ASSEMBLY: Sew the shoulder seams. Sew in sleeves. NECK VENT: Knit up approx. 30 sts on needle size 3 mm with anthracite along the right side of vent. Work in stocking st for 2½ cm, K 1 row from WS and continue in stocking st for 2½ cm. Loosely cast off. Fold the edge double towards WS and fasten it to the back of garment with neat little loose stitches. Repeat along the left side of vent. Place the bands towards each other, edge to edge and fasten them at the bottom of vent with stitches from RS. NECK EDGE: Knit up from RS approx. 90 to 100 sts around the neck (also over bands) on circular needle size 3 mm with anthracite. Work in stocking st back and forth with 1 edge st in each side which is worked K on all rows. When neck edge measures approx. 2-2½ cm, adjust so that next row is worked from RS, switch to red. K 3 rows. Switch back to anthracite and continue in stocking st for 2½ cm, loosely cast off. Fold the neck edge double towards WS and fasten it to the back of garment with neat little loose stitches. Fasten the clasps on neck vent. |
