------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- 2 EDGE STITCHES I-CORD: BEGINNING OF ROW: Work the 2 edge-stitches as follows: Knit 2 twisted together, make 1 yarn over. END OF ROW: Work the 2 edge-stitches as follows: Work until there are 2 stitches left on the row, slip 2 stitches purl-wise with the strand in front. Work in the same way from both the right and wrong side. INCREASE TIP-1: To work out how to increase evenly, count the total number of stitches on the needle (e.g., 65 stitches), minus 9 stitches on each side (not increased across) and divide the remaining 47 stitches by the number of increases to be made (e.g., 5) = 9.4. In this example, increase in alternately each 9th and 10th stitch as follows (do not increase over the 9 stitches on each side): This symmetric method of increases gives 1 new stitch. Follow points 1 - 4 below: 1. Hold the working strand at the back, slip the first stitch purl-wise from the left to the right needle. 2. Take the left needle behind the slipped stitch and between the slipped stitch and the next stitch on the right needle. 3. Make 1 yarn over around the right needle and pull it through the stitch (1 new stitch on the right needle). 4. Slip the front loop off the needle and knit 1 through the front of the other stitch-loop. 1 increased stitch. INCREASE TIP-2: When increasing evenly on the first round of rib, it is important to increase in the stitches that will subsequently be purled, so the knitted stitches continue neatly from the stocking stitch. SLEEVE TIP: When knitting up stitches under the sleeve, you can get a small hole in the transition between stitches on the body and sleeve. This hole can be closed by picking up the strand between 2 stitches and working this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 4 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 4 (marker-thread sits in the middle of these 4 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). BUTTONHOLES: Work the buttonholes on the right band (when the garment is worn) from the right side, when there are 5 stitches left on the row as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Make 1 yarn over, knit 2 together, purl 1, work 2 edge-stitches I-cord. ROW 2 (wrong side): Work 2 edge-stitches I-cord, knit 1, purl the yarn over to leave a hole. The first buttonhole is worked on the first row from the right side after the neck is finished. Then work the other 5-5-5-5-6-6-6 buttonholes with 7½-8-8-8½-7½-8-8 cm between each one. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JACKET – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE. The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The neck and yoke are worked back and forth with circular needle, from mid front and top down while increasing for the round yoke. When the yoke is finished, it is divided for body and sleeves and the body continued back and forth, while the sleeves wait. The sleeves are worked in the round, top down. If there is a «0» in your chosen size, skip the information and go straight to the next instruction. NECK: Cast on 65-67-69-71-75-77-79 stitches with circular needle size 8 mm with DROPS Snow. Switch to circular needle size 6 mm and work as follows: ROW 1 (wrong side): 2 EDGE-STITCHES I-CORD – read explanation above, knit 1, purl until there are 3 stitches left on the row, knit 1 and 2 edge-stitches I-cord. ROW 2 (right side): 2 edge-stitches I-cord, purl 1, knit until there are 3 stitches left, purl 1 and 2 edge-stitches I-cord. ROW 3 (wrong side): 2 edge-stitches I-cord, knit 1, purl until there are 3 stitches left, knit 1 and 2 edge-stitches I-cord. ROW 4 (right side): 2 edge-stitches I-cord, purl 1, work rib (knit 1 and purl 1) until there are 2 stitches left, 2 edge-stitches I-cord. ROW 5 (wrong side): 2 edge-stitches I-cord, then knit above knit and purl above purl until there are 2 stitches left, 2 edge-stitches I-cord. ROW 6 (right side): 2 edge-stitches I-cord, purl 1, knit until there are 3 stitches left, purl 1 and 2 edge-stitches I-cord. ROW 7 (wrong side): 2 edge-stitches I-cord, knit 1, purl until there are 3 stitches left, knit 1 and 2 edge-stitches I-cord. AFTER ROW 7: Repeat ROWS 6 and 7 for 2-2-3-3-4-4-4 cm. Insert 1 marker inside the outermost 3 stitches on one side (= mid-front); the piece is now measured from here. YOKE: Change to circular needle size 8 mm. Work the first row from the right side as follows: 2 edge-stitches I-cord, purl 1, 6 stocking stitches, then 47-49-51-53-57-59-61 stocking stitches where you increase 5-7-9-11-13-15-17 stitches evenly across these stitches – read INCREASE TIP-1, 6 stocking stitches, purl 1 and 2 edge-stitches I-cord. Remember the first BUTTONHOLE – read explanation above = 70-74-78-82-88-92-96 stitches. Continue stocking stitch with 2 edge-stitches I-cord and 1 purled stitch on each side (seen from the right side). AT THE SAME TIME increase evenly for the round yoke as follows. Remember to maintain the knitting tension. When the yoke measures 4 cm from the marker and on the next row from the right side, increase 26-26-30-32-34-32-32 stitches evenly spaced – remember INCREASE TIP-1 (do not increase across the outermost 9 stitches on each side) = 96-100-108-114-122-124-128 stitches. When the yoke measures 8 cm from the marker, on the next row from the right side, increase 28-28-28-30-30-30-30 stitches evenly spaced – remember INCREASE TIP-1 = 124-128-136-144-152-154-158 stitches. When the yoke measures 12-12-13-13-12-12-12 cm from the marker, on the next row from the right side, increase 22-22-24-28-26-28-30 stitches evenly spaced – remember INCREASE TIP-1 = 146-150-160-172-178-182-188 stitches. When the yoke measures 16-16-18-18-16-16-17 cm from the marker, on the next row from the right side, increase 20-20-22-26-20-22-22 stitches evenly spaced – remember INCREASE TIP-1 = 166-170-182-198-198-204-210 stitches. The increases are finished in sizes XS, S, M and L. In the other sizes continue as follows. When the yoke measures 0-0-0-0-20-21-22 cm from the marker, on the next row from the right side, increase 0-0-0-0-8-10-12 stitches evenly spaced – remember INCREASE TIP-1 = 166-170-182-198-206-214-222 stitches. When the yoke measures 20-21-23-24-25-26-28 cm from the marker, divide for the body and sleeves. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES Work the first 29-30-32-34-36-38-40 stitches as before (= front piece), place the next 30-30-32-36-36-36-36 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 6-8-10-10-12-14-16 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), work 48-50-54-58-62-66-70 stitches (back piece), place the next 30-30-32-36-36-36-36 stitches on a thread for the sleeve, cast on 6-8-10-10-12-14-16 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), work the last 29-30-32-34-36-38-40 stitches as before (= front piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. BODY: = 118-126-138-146-158-170-182 stitches. Continue stocking stitch with 2 edge-stitches I-cord and 1 purled stitch on each side (seen from the right side) until the piece measures 46-48-50-52-54-55-57 cm from the marker mid-front. On the next row from the right side, begin the rib. AT THE SAME TIME, increase 19-21-23-25-27-29-31 stitches evenly on the first row – read INCREASE TIP-2 = 137-147-161-171-185-199-213 stitches, working as follows: Change to circular needle size 6 mm. Work 2 edge-stitches I-cord, purl 1, work rib (knit 1 and purl 1; remember to increase) until there are 2 stitches left, 2 edge-stitches I-cord. After 3 rows of rib, purl 1 row from the wrong side across all stitches before casting off slightly loosely with knit from the right side. The jacket measures approx. 49-51-53-55-57-58-60 cm from the marker mid-front and 54-56-58-60-62-64-66 cm from the shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 30-30-32-36-36-36-36 sleeve-stitches from one stitch holder onto circular needle size 8 mm and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 6-8-10-10-12-14-16 cast-on stitches under the sleeve – read SLEEVE TIP = 36-38-42-46-48-50-52 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the 6-8-10-10-12-14-16 new stitches under the sleeve. The round starts by the marker-thread. Work stocking stitch in the round. AT THE SAME TIME, after 1 round, decrease mid-under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP as follows: Decrease 2 stitches every 2nd round 5-5-6-6-6-6-7 times, then decrease 2 stitches every 2 cm 1-1-2-4-4-5-5 times = 30-32-34-34-36-36-38 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 44-44-42-42-41-42-40 cm from the division. Change to double pointed needles size 6 mm. Work 3 rounds of rib (knit 1, purl 1), AT THE SAME TIME increase 6 stitches evenly on the first round – remember INCREASE TIP-2 = 36-38-40-40-42-42-44 stitches. Knit 3 rounds (rolled edge). Cast off slightly loosely with knit. The sleeve measures approx. 47-47-45-45-44-45-43 cm from the division. ASSEMBLY: Sew the buttons onto the left band. |
