---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- ITALIAN CAST-ON (simple method): With this cast-on cast on half of the stitches given in pattern, then increase number of stitches on first row after cast-on. Work 2 rows back and forth before working in the round. Cast on stitches around 2 needles (use the thickest needle size from pattern = needle size 3 mm), cast on 64-64-66-66-72-76-78 stitches. Pull out one needle and work on circular needle size 2.5 mm while increasing number of stitches - work as follows: ROW 1 (turn piece and work back on row = wrong side): * Purl 1, pick up a stitch from the working yarn as follows: Insert right needle in front, under and behind piece, up in front of yarn and pull needle with yarn to the front of piece again (= 1 new stitch on right needle) *, work from *-* until 1 stitch remains, purl 1 = 127-127-131-131-143-151-155 stitches. ROW 2 (turn piece and work back on row = right side): * Knit 1, purl 1 (= yarn that was picked up) *, work from *-* until 1 stitch remains, work 2 stitches in last stitch as follows: Knit 1 in stitch loop in front of needle and purl 1 in stitch loop behind needle = 128-128-132-132-144-152-156 stitches. ROUND 3 (do not turn piece - now work in the round on needle = right side): Knit over knit and purl over purl. Then work neck edge as explained in pattern. PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.4. Diagrams A.1 and A.2 show the pattern with raglan increases - work the increased stitches in stocking stitch. INCREASE TIP: When increasing stitches evenly in transition for rib, there will be an even increase if you increase where stitches are going to be purled, the stitches in stocking stitch will then continue nicely over into rib. PICOT CAST-OFF: * Lift next stitch (= knit stitch) from left needle to right needle without twisting the stitch (= 2 stitches on right needle). Place yarn between needles and in front of piece, lift the 2 stitches on right needle back on left needle without twisting the stitches. Place yarn in front and around these 2 stitches and behind piece again. Knit the next 2 stitches together and work 1 stitch (knit or purl this stitch = same as stitch below). On right needle lift 2nd stitch over 1st stitch (= 1 stitch deceased) *, work from *-* until all stitches have been cast off. Cut the yarn, pull strand through the last stitch and fasten. SLEEVE TIP: When picking up stitches mid under sleeve, there will be a small hole in the transition between stitches on body and sleeves. The holes can be closed by picking up the strand between two stitches - work this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve to close the hole. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of marker thread as follows: Work until 3 stitches remain before marker thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker thread is between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked (= 2 stitches decreased). ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: In this pattern needles of different length have been used, begin with fitting length for number of stitches and switch as needed. Work neck edge and yoke in the round on circular needle from right shoulder at the back, and work top down with increases for raglan. When yoke is done, divide piece for body and sleeves. Work body downwards in the round on circular needle while putting the sleeves aside. Then work sleeves downwards in the round on needle. NECK EDGE: Cast on 128-128-132-132-144-152-156 stitches on circular needle size 2.5 mm with DROPS Alpaca or DROPS Baby Merino - use ITALIAN CAST-ON if desired - read explanation above. Work rib in the round (= knit 1 and purl 1) until neck edge measures 3-3-3-4-4-4-4 cm. Beginning of round is at right shoulder at the back. Insert 1 marker after the first 45-45-46-46-51-54-55 stitches on round (= approx. mid front), measure piece from this marker. YOKE: Continue with circular needle size 3 mm. Insert 4 markers in piece without working the stitches, insert markers in a stitch, these stitches are called raglan stitches and increase is done for raglan on each side of raglan stitches. Raglan stitches are worked in stocking stitch. Insert 1st marker in first stitch, count 25-25-25-25-29-31-31 stitches (= sleeve), insert 2nd marker in next stitch, count 37-37-39-39-41-43-45 stitches (= front piece), insert 3rd marker in next stitch, count 25-25-25-25-29-31-31 stitches (= sleeve), insert 4th marker in next stitch, 37-37-39-39-41-43-45 stitches remain after last marker (= back piece). Then work stocking stitch in the round while AT THE SAME TIME increasing for RAGLAN on each side of raglan stitches by working PATTERN with increase according to diagram - read explanation above and work as follows (cable every 4th round): ROUND 1: Work raglan stitch, A.2, knit 19-19-19-19-23-25-25 stitches (= sleeve), A.1, raglan stitch, A.2, knit 31-31-33-33-35-37-39 (= front piece), A.1, raglan stitch, A.2, knit 19-19-19-19-23-25-25 (= sleeve), A.1, raglan stitch, A.2, knit 31-31-33-33-35-37-39 and work A.1 (= 8 stitches increased). ROUND 2: Work in stocking stitch. ROUND 3: Work stocking and increase for raglan by working A.2 after raglan stitches and A.1 before raglan stitches (= 8 stitches increased). ROUND 4: Work in stocking stitch. Work ROUND 3 and 4 11-12-15-24-28-24-24 times in total (= 24-26-32-50-58-50-50 rounds worked after neck edge) = 224-232-260-332-376-352-356 stitches on needle. Remember to follow the knitting tension! Then work and increase for raglan as follows: ROUND 1: Work stocking and continue increase for raglan by working A.2 after raglan stitches and A.1 before raglan stitches (= 8 stitches increased). ROUND 2: Work in stocking stitch. ROUND 3: Work stocking and increase for raglan on front piece and on back piece, i.e. increase AFTER 2nd and 4th marker and BEFORE 1st and 3rd marker - do not increase stitches on sleeves but continue cables as before, work A.3 over A.1 and A.4 over A.2 (= 4 stitches increased). ROUND 4: Work in stocking stitch. Work ROUND 1 to 4 11-12-12-9-8-12-14 times in total (= 44-48-48-36-32-48-56 rounds worked = 11-12-12-9-8-12-14 increases on sleeves and 22-24-24-18-16-24-28 increases on front piece/back piece) = 356-376-404-440-472-496-524 stitches on needle. All increases for raglan are now done, there are 23-25-28-34-37-37-39 increases on sleeves and 34-37-40-43-45-49-53 increases on front piece/back piece. Work stocking stitch and cables as before without increasing, i.e. work A.3 over A.1 and A.4 over A.2 until piece measures 20-22-24-25-26-29-31 cm from marker mid front. Finish the cables here. Now divide yoke for body and sleeves. DIVIDING FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: When dividing piece for body and sleeves the raglan stitches will be placed somewhat in on front piece/back piece, i.e. AT THE SAME TIME as next round is worked divide yoke for body and sleeves as follows: Work 1-2-3-4-6-6-7 stitch in stocking stitch (= these stitches belong to back piece), slip the next 71-73-77-87-93-95-97 stitches on a thread for sleeve, cast on 12-16-16-18-20-24-28 new stitches on needle (= in the side mid under sleeve), work 107-115-125-133-143-153-165 stitches in stocking stitch (= front piece), slip the next 71-73-77-87-93-95-97 stitches on a thread for sleeve, cast on 12-16-16-18-20-24-28 new stitches on needle (= in the side mid under sleeve) and work the last 106-113-122-129-137-147-158 stitches in stocking stitch (= remaining stitches on back piece). Finish body and sleeves separately. BODY: = 238-262-282-302-326-354-386 stitches. Insert 1 marker in one side of piece (= in the middle of the 12-16-16-18-20-24-28 stitches that were cast on under sleeve). Work until marker, round begins here and work in the round. Work stocking stitch until piece measures 42-44-46-47-48-50-52 cm from marker mid front. Switch to circular needles size 2.5 mm, work rib (= knit 1 and purl 1) while AT THE SAME TIME increasing 44-46-50-56-62-64-70 stitches evenly on 1st round - read INCREASE TIP = 282-308-332-358-388-418-456 stitches. When rib measures 3-3-3-4-4-4-4 cm cast off with picot - read PICOT CAST-OFF in explanation above, or cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl. Jumper measures 45-47-49-51-52-54-56 cm from marker mid front and approx. 50-52-54-56-58-60-62 cm from the top of shoulder. SLEEVES: Slip 71-73-77-87-93-95-97 sleeve stitches from one thread on to needle size 3 mm and pick in addition up 1 stitch in each of the 12-16-16-18-20-24-28 stitches cast on under sleeve - read SLEEVE TIP = 83-89-93-105-113-119-125 stitches. Insert 1 marker in the middle of the 12-16-16-18-20-24-28 new stitches under sleeve - round begins at the marker thread. Work stocking stitch in the round on needle - AT THE SAME TIME when 1 round has been worked after division, decrease mid under sleeve – read DECREASE TIP and decrease as follows: Decrease 2 stitches 2-2-2-3-3-4-4 times on every other round, then decrease 2 stitches 3-5-5-9-12-13-14 times every 2-2-2-1½-1½-1-1 cm = 73-75-79-81-83-85-89 stitches on needle. Work until sleeve measures 41-40-39-38-37-35-34 cm from division. Switch to double pointed needles size 2.5 mm and work rib (= knit 1 and purl 1) while AT THE SAME TIME increasing 13-15-13-15-15-17-15 stitches evenly on 1st round - remember INCREASE TIP = 86-90-92-96-98-102-104 stitches. When rib measures 3-3-3-4-4-4-4 cm, cast off the same way as on body. Sleeve measures approx. 44-43-42-42-41-39-38 cm from division. |
