---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (when working back and forth): Knit on all rows, i.e. knit from right side and knit from wrong side. 1 ridge vertically = knit 2 rows. GARTER STITCH (when working in the round): Alternately knit 1 round and purl 1 round. 1 ridge vertically = 2 rounds. INCREASE TIP: All increases are done from the wrong side. Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over, on next row (= right side) knit yarn over twisted to avoid holes. I-CORD: BEGINNING OF ROW: Slip 1 stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece, knit 1. END OF ROW: Work until 2 stitches remain on needle, slip 1 stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece, knit 1. Work the same way both from right side and wrong side. BUTTONHOLES: Decrease for buttonholes on right front piece (when garment is worn). Decrease from right side when 5 stitches remain on row as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Make 1 yarn over, knit 2 together, knit 1, slip 1 stitch purlwise with strand in front of piece, knit 1. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Work I-cord and garter stitch as before and knit yarn over to make a buttonhole. Decrease for first buttonhole on first row from right side after increases for neckline are done. Then decrease the next 7-7-7-7-8-8-8 buttonholes, approx. 6-6-6½-6½-6-6-6 cm apart. Place last buttonhole approx. 3-4-3-4-2-3-4 cm above the bottom edge on body. DECREASE TIP: Decrease on knitted rounds. Decrease 1 stitch on each side of marker thread as follows: Begin at the beginning of round, knit 1, slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked, work until 3 stitches remain on round, knit 2 together, knit 1 (= 2 stitches decreased). SLEEVE TIP: When picking up stitches mid under sleeve, there will be a small hole in the transition between stitches on body and sleeves. The holes can be closed by picking up the strand between two stitches - work this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve to close the hole. ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- JACKET - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: In this pattern needles of different length have been used, begin with fitting length for number of stitches and switch as needed. If 0 stitches are given for the chosen size, it means that you skip the information and jump to next information. Garment is worked as point 1 - 5. 1 - BACK PIECE: Cast on stitches in the back of neck and work back piece back and forth downwards while at the same time increasing in each side of piece until number of stitches for shoulder width is reached. Back piece has a slight diagonal shoulder. 2 - FRONT PIECES: Begin by picking up stitches along one shoulder on back piece, work front piece downwards while increasing towards the neck. Repeat on the other shoulder. 3- YOKE: On next row work all stitches on same circular needle - work as follows: Work stitches on one front piece, pick up stitches for sleeve along the side on front piece, work stitches on back piece, pick up stitches for sleeve along the side on the other front piece and work stitches on last front piece = work yoke over all stitches back and forth from mid front. 4 - INCREASE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: When working the yoke, increase stitches for body and sleeves, first increase for sleeves and then increase for both body and sleeves. 5 - BODY AND SLEEVES: When all stitches have been increased and yoke is knitted to given measurements, divide the piece for body and sleeves. Work body downwards back and forth on circular needle while putting the sleeves aside. Then work sleeves downwards in the round on needle. Finish by picking up stitches around the neck and work the neck edge back and forth. Fold the neck edge double against the wrong side and fasten. BACK PIECE: Work back and forth on circular needle with GARTER STITCH - read explanation above. Cast on 38-40-40-42-42-44-44 stitches on circular needle size 3 mm with DROPS Alpaca or DROPS Flora. ROW 1 (= wrong side): Read INCREASE TIP and knit 1, make 1 yarn over, knit until 1 stitch remains, make 1 yarn over, knit 1. ROW 2 (= right side): Knit - remember to knit the yarn overs twisted. Work 1st and 2nd ROW 24-24-25-25-27-27-28 times in total (= 48-48-50-50-54-54-56 worked), after increase there are = 86-88-90-92-96-98-100 stitches on needle. Knit 1 row from wrong side. Remember to follow the knitting tension! Cut the yarn, slip stitches on a thread or an stitch holder. RIGHT FRONT PIECE: Find right shoulder on back piece as follows: Place back piece flat with right side up, place back piece so that stitches on thread/stitch holder is towards you, right side of piece = right shoulder. Now pick up stitches along right diagonal shoulder on back piece - begin from right side at the armhole and pick up stitches in towards the neck as follows: Pick up 1 stitch in every other row worked inside outermost stitch - i.e. pick up in every row from right side = 24-24-25-25-27-27-28 stitches for shoulder. Insert 1 marker in piece in towards the neck. All length measurements are done from this marker, measured in stitch direction. Work in garter stitch until piece measures approx. 3-4-4-4-5-6-7 cm (knit first row from wrong side). Then increase stitches towards the neck as follows - remember INCREASE TIP: ROW 1 (= right side): Knit all stitches. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Knit 1, make 1 yarn over, knit the rest of row (= 1 stitch increased) - remember to knit the yarn over twisted on next row. Work 1st and 2nd ROW 10-10-10-12-12-12-12 times in total (= 20-20-20-24-24-24-24 rows have been worked) = 34-34-35-37-39-39-40 stitches. Increases for neck are now done. Piece now measures 7-8-8-9-10-11-12 cm from marker. Approx. 2 cm of the neck depth will be over the back piece. On next row from right side cast on 15-16-16-15-15-16-16 new stitches at the end of row = 49-50-51-52-54-55-56 stitches. Knit 1 row from wrong side. Then work the front piece as follows - Remember to cast off for BUTTONHOLES at the end of row - read explanation above: ROW 1 (= right side): Knit until 2 stitches remain, work 2 stitches in I-CORD – read explanation above. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Work 2 stitches I-cord, knit the rest of row. Work 1st and 2nd ROW until piece measures 14-14-14-14-16-16-16 cm from marker Cut the yarn. Slip stitches on a thread or stitch holder, now work left shoulder along the left diagonal shoulder on back piece as explained below. LEFT FRONT PIECE: Now pick up stitches along left diagonal shoulder on back piece– begin from right side at the neck and pick up stitches out towards the armhole as follows: Pick up 1 stitch in every other row worked inside outermost stitch - i.e. pick up in every row from right side = 24-24-25-25-27-27-28 stitches for shoulder. 2nd ROW (= wrong side) knit until 1 stitch remains, make 1 yarn over, knit 1 (= 1 stitch increased) - remember to knit the yarn over twisted on next row. Work 1st and 2nd ROW 10-10-10-12-12-12-12 times in total (= 20-20-20-24-24-24-24 rows have been worked) = 34-34-35-37-39-39-40 stitches. Increases for neck are now done. Knit 1 row from right side. On next row from wrong side cast on 15-16-16-15-15-16-16 new stitches at the end of row = 49-50-51-52-54-55-56 stitches. Then work the front piece as follows: ROW 1 (= right side): Work 2 stitches I-cord, knit the rest of row. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Knit until 2 stitches remain on row, work 2 stitches I-cord. Work 1st and 2nd ROW until piece measures 14-14-14-14-16-16-16 cm from marker - make sure that left and right front piece are the same length. Do not cut the yarn. Now slip front pieces and back piece together and pick up stitches for sleeve as explained below. YOKE: ROW 1 (= right side): Work 2 stitches I-cord, knit until 1 stitch remains on front piece, insert 1 marker on row, knit last stitch from front piece (= stitch belongs to sleeve), pick up 34-34-34-34-38-38-38 stitches along the side of left front piece - pick up stitches inside outermost stitch, knit first stitch from back piece (= stitch belongs to sleeve), insert 1 marker on row, knit until 1 stitch remains on back piece, insert 1 marker on row, knit last stitch on back piece (= stitch belongs to sleeve), pick up 34-34-34-34-38-38-38 stitches along the side on right front piece - pick up stitches inside outermost stitch, knit first stitch from right front piece (= stitch belongs to sleeve), insert 1 marker on row, knit until 2 stitches remain on front piece, finish with 2 stitches I-cord. There are 36-36-36-36-40-40-40 stitches on each sleeve, 84-86-88-90-94-96-98 stitches on back piece and 48-49-50-51-53-54-55 stitches on each front piece = 252-256-260-264-280-284-288 stitches. Then work back and forth in garter stitch with I-cord in each side while AT THE SAME TIME increasing for sleeves as follows: ROW 1 (= wrong side): Work 2 stitches I-cord, * knit until next marker, move marker on to right needle, make 1 yarn over, work until next marker, make 1 yarn over, move marker on to right needle *, work from *-* 2 times in total, knit until 2 stitches remain on needle, finish with 2 stitches I-cord (= 4 stitches increased). ROW 2 (= right side): Work 2 stitches I-cord, knit until 2 stitches remain - remember to knit yarn overs twisted, finish with 2 stitches I-cord. Work 1st and 2nd ROW 18-20-19-18-14-12-9 times in total (= 36-40-38-36-28-24-18 rows worked). 18-20-19-18-14-12-9 increases in total for sleeves = 72-76-74-72-68-64-58 stitches on each sleeve, 84-86-88-90-94-96-98 stitches on back piece and 48-49-50-51-53-54-55 stitches on each front piece = 324-336-336-336-336-332-324 stitches. Then increase on both sleeves and body, increase on body 2 stitches inside marker so that there are 2 stitches between increase for body and increase for sleeve - work as follows: ROW 1 (= wrong side): Work 2 stitches I-cord, * knit until 2 stitches remain before next marker, make 1 yarn over, knit 2, move marker on to right needle, make 1 yarn over, work until next marker, make 1 yarn over, move marker on to right needle, knit 2, make 1 yarn over *, work from *-* 2 times in total, knit until 2 stitches remain on needle, finish with 2 stitches I-cord (= 8 stitches increased). ROW 2 (= right side): Work 2 stitches I-cord, knit until 2 stitches remain - remember to knit yarn overs twisted, finish with 2 stitches I-cord. Work 1st and 2nd ROW 11-11-10-10-10-12-13 times in total (= 22-22-20-20-20-24-26 rows worked). 20-23-26-28-28-29-30 increases in total for sleeves and 13-14-17-20-24-29-34 increases for body = 76-82-88-92-96-98-100 stitches on each sleeve, 110-114-122-130-142-154-166 stitches on back piece and 61-63-67-71-77-83-89 stitches on each front piece = 384-404-432-456-488-516-544 stitches. Sleeve measures approx. 13-14-15-16-16-17-18 cm - when the jacket is folded double at the shoulder, piece should measure 20-21-22-23-24-25-26 cm from the edge on shoulder and down along the armhole. If the garment is shorter than this, continue until correct measurements without increases. Now divide yoke for body and sleeves. DIVIDING FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: AT THE SAME TIME as next row is worked divide yoke for body and sleeves as follows: Work 61-63-67-71-77-83-89 stitches as before (= front piece), slip the next 76-82-88-92-96-98-100 stitches on a thread for sleeve, cast on 6-10-12-14-14-16-18 new stitches on row (= in the side mid under sleeve), and work the next 110-114-122-130-142-154-166 stitches in stocking stitch (= back piece), slip the next 76-82-88-92-96-98-100 stitches on a thread for sleeve, cast on 6-10-12-14-14-16-18 new stitches on row (= in the side mid under sleeve) and work the last 61-63-67-71-77-83-89 stitches as before (= front piece). Finish body and sleeves separately. BODY: = 244-260-280-300-324-352-380 stitches. Work garter stitch and I-cord as before until piece measures 48-50-52-54-56-58-60 cm from cast-on edge mid back. Cast off by knitting from right side - make sure to avoid a tight cast-off. Jacket measures approx. 50-52-54-56-58-60-62 cm from shoulder. SLEEVES: Slip 76-82-88-92-96-98-100 sleeve stitches from one thread on to circular needle size 3 mm and pick in addition up 1 stitch in each of the 6-10-12-14-14-16-18 stitches cast on under sleeve- read SLEEVE TIP = 82-92-100-106-110-114-118 stitches. Insert 1 marker in the middle of the 6-10-12-14-14-16-18 new stitches under sleeve - the round begins at the marker thread - i.e. the ridges in garter stitch switch between knit and purl mid under sleeve. Work garter stitch in the round on needle - AT THE SAME TIME when 1 round has been worked after division, decrease mid under sleeve – read DECREASE TIP and decrease as follows: Decrease 2 stitches every other round 2-3-3-3-4-4-5 times, then decrease 2 stitches every 10-5-3-3-3-2½-2½ cm 3-6-9-10-10-11-11 times == 72-74-76-80-82-84-86 stitches on needle. Work until sleeve measures 38-37-37-36-37-36-36 cm from division. Cast off by knitting - make sure to avoid a tight cast-off. Sleeve measures approx. 51-51-52-52-53-53-54 cm from cast-on edge on shoulder. NECK EDGE: Use circular needle size 3 mm. Begin from right side mid front and pick up approx. 109-117-117-125-127-135-139 stitches around the neck - remember to pick up 1 stitch in each of the I-cord stitches. Work as follows: ROW 1 (= wrong side): Work 2 stitches I-cord, knit until 2 stitches remain, work 2 stitches I-cord. ROW 2 (= right side): Work 2 stitches I-cord, knit until 2 stitches remain, work 2 stitches I-cord. ROW 3 (= wrong side): Work 2 stitches I-cord, work rib (= purl 1 and knit 1) until 3 stitches remain, purl 1, work 2 stitches I-cord. ROW 4 (= right side): Work 2 stitches I-cord, work rib (= knit 1 and purl 1) until 3 stitches remain, knit 1, work 2 stitches I-cord. Work 3rd and 4th ROW until rib measures 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 cm. Cast off somewhat loosely with knit over knit and purl over purl. ASSEMBLY: Fold the rib down on inside of garment. Fasten rib to get a double neck edge. To avoid a tight neck edge that sticks out it is important to keep the seam elastic. Sew opening towards mid front together on bands with neat little stitches. Sew buttons on to left front piece. |
