------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS LEFT – from RIGHT SIDE: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the row below, pick up the strand from the front and knit through the stitch-loop that lies on the back of the needle. INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE RIGHT- from RIGHT SIDE: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the row below, pick up the strand from the back and knit through the stitch-loop that lies on the front of the needle. INCREASE TIP-2: INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE RIGHT- from WRONG SIDE: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the row below, pick up the strand from the back and purl through the stitch-loop that lies on the front of the needle. INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS LEFT – from WRONG SIDE: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the row below, pick up the strand from the front and purl through the stitch-loop that lies on the back of the needle. PATTERN: See diagram A.1. The pattern is worked in stocking stitch. INCREASE TIP for transition to rib: When increasing evenly on the first round of rib, it is important to increase in the stitches that will subsequently be purled, so the knitted stitches continue neatly from the stocking stitch. SLEEVE TIP: When knitting up stitches under the sleeve, you can be left with a small hole in the transition between the stitches on the body and sleeve. This hole can be closed by picking up the strand between 2 stitches and working this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE. The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. Work according to points 1 – 5. 1. BACK PIECE: Cast on stitches for the back of the neck. Work the back piece back and forth, top down, increasing stitches on each side until the shoulder stitch-count has been achieved. The back piece has slightly diagonal shoulders. 2. FRONT PIECE: Worked in 2 sections (each side of neck). Start by knitting up stitches along one back shoulder, working downwards and increasing for the neckline. Repeat on the other shoulder, then cast on stitches from the neckline mid-front and join the 2 shoulders (= front piece). The front piece is continued to the given measurements. 3. YOKE: Place all the stitches on the same circular needle, work first the front piece, knit up stitches for one sleeve along the side of the front piece, work the back piece, knit up stitches for the second sleeve along the other side of the front piece. The yoke is continued in the round with pattern. 4. INCREASE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: While continuing the yoke, stitches are increased, first for the sleeves and later for both the body and sleeves. 5. BODY AND SLEEVES: When the increases and the yoke are finished, the yoke is divided for the body and sleeves. The body is finished in the round while the sleeves wait. Then the sleeves are worked in the round, top down. Stitches are knitted up around the neckline and the neck is worked in the round to finish. ------------------------------------------------------- BACK PIECE: The piece is worked back and forth. Cast on 37-37-37-37-39-39-39 stitches with circular needle size 4 mm and colour Blue Haze DROPS Fiesta. ROW 1 (wrong side): Purl. ROW 2 (right side): Read INCREASE TIP-1. Knit 2, increase 1 stitch towards the left, knit until there are 2 stitches left on the row, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 2. ROW 3 (wrong side): Read INCREASE TIP-2. Purl 2, increase 1 stitch towards the right, purl until there are 2 stitches left on the row, increase 1 stitch towards the left, purl 2. AFTER ROW 3: Work ROWS 2 and 3 a total of 11-12-13-14-14-15-16 times (22-24-26-28-28-30-32 rows worked) = 81-85-89-93-95-99-103 stitches. Remember to maintain the knitting tension. Cut the strand and place the stitches on a stitch holder. LEFT SHOULDER: Find the left back shoulder as follows: Lay the back piece flat, right side up, with the stitch holder/thread towards you; left side of piece = left shoulder. Start from the right side by the neck on the left back shoulder and knit up 1 stitch in each row worked, inside the outermost stitch as far as the armhole (22-24-26-28-28-30-32 stitches), then knit up 1 stitch outermost on the shoulder (edge-stitch) = 23-25-27-29-29-31-33 shoulder-stitches. Insert 1 marker by the neck. All measurements on the front piece are taken from this marker, measured in the knitting direction. Work stocking stitch, with the first row from the wrong side. When the piece measures 6-6-7-8-8-9-10 cm, increase for the neckline as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Remember INCREASE TIP-1. Knit 2, increase 1 stitch towards the left, knit to end of row. ROW 2 (wrong side): Purl without increasing. Work ROWS 1 and 2 a total of 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 times (8-8-8-8-10-10-10 rows worked) = 27-29-31-33-34-36-38 stitches. The neckline increases are finished. The piece measures approx. 9-9-10-11-12-13-14 cm from the marker. 2 cm of the neckline depth will lie on the back piece. Cut the strand and place the stitches on a stitch holder. Work the right shoulder along the right back shoulder as follows. RIGHT SHOULDER: Start from the right side by the armhole on the right back shoulder and knit up 1 stitch outermost on the shoulder (edge-stitch), then knit up 1 stitch in each row worked inside the outermost stitch as far as the neck (22-24-26-28-28-30-32 stitches) = 23-25-27-29-29-31-33 shoulder-stitches. Insert 1 marker by the neck. All measurements on the front piece are taken from this marker, measured in the knitting direction. Work stocking stitch, with the first row from the wrong side. When the piece measures 6-6-7-8-8-9-10 cm, increase for the neckline as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Knit until there are 2 stitches left, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 2 - remember INCREASE TIP-1. ROW 2 (wrong side): Purl without increasing. Work ROWS 1 and 2 a total of 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 times (8-8-8-8-10-10-10 rows worked) = 27-29-31-33-34-36-38 stitches. FRONT PIECE: On the next row (right side) join the 2 shoulders as follows: Knit the 27-29-31-33-34-36-38 stitches on the right shoulder, cast on 27 stitches for the neckline, knit the 27-29-31-33-34-36-38 stitches on the left shoulder = 81-85-89-93-95-99-103 stitches. Work stocking stitch back and forth until the piece measures 12-12-14-14-14-14-16 cm from the marker, with the last row from the wrong side. Cut the strand. The front and back pieces are now joined and stitches are knitted up for the sleeves as follows. ROW 1 (right side): Knit the first stitch on the back piece (this stitch belongs to the sleeve), insert 1 marker on the needle (= beginning of round), knit until there is 1 stitch left on the back piece, insert 1 marker on the needle, knit the last stitch on the back piece (belongs to the sleeve), knit up 25-25-29-29-29-29-33 stitches along the right-hand side of the front piece (sleeve-stitches, knitted up inside the outermost stitch), knit the first stitch on the front piece (belongs to the sleeve), insert 1 marker on the needle, knit until there is 1 stitch left on the front piece, insert 1 marker on the needle, knit the last stitch on the front piece (belongs to the sleeve), knit up 25-25-29-29-29-29-33 stitches along the left-hand side of the front piece (sleeve-stitches, knitted up inside the outermost stitch) = 212-220-236-244-248-256-272 stitches. Knit the first stitch; the round now begins by the marker in the transition between the back piece and the sleeve. There are 27-27-31-31-31-31-35 stitches on each sleeve and 79-83-87-91-93-97-101 stitches on the front and back pieces. YOKE: Continue in the round with PATTERN (diagram A.1) as follows; NOTE: On rounds worked with 2 colours, the increased stitches and the stitches between them are worked with colour Blue Haze. ROUND 1: Repeat A.1 on the round, increasing 1 stitch on each side of both sleeves – remember INCREASE TIP-1, increasing towards the left at the beginning of the sleeve and towards the right at the end of the sleeve. The stitch count on each sleeve increases but remains the same on the front and back pieces. ROUND 2: Work without increasing. The new stitches are worked into the pattern. Work ROUNDS 1 and 2 a total of 10-12-12-12-10-9-5 times (20-24-24-24-20-18-10 rounds worked and 10-12-12-12-10-9-5 increases in height on the sleeves; 47-51-55-55-51-49-45 stitches on each sleeve and 79-83-87-91-93-97-101 stitches on the front and back pieces) = 252-268-284-292-288-292-292 stitches. Now increase on both the sleeves and body, increasing inside 1 stitch on the body so there is 1 stitch between the increases on the sleeves and body: ROUND 1: * Knit 1 stitch, increase 1 stitch towards the left, knit until there is 1 stitch left before the next marker, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 1, move the marker onto the right needle, increase 1 stitch towards the left, knit to the next marker (= sleeve), increase 1 stitch towards the right, move the marker onto the right needle, * work from *-* 1 more time (8 increased stitches; 1 stitch increased on each side of 1 stitch in each transition between the body and sleeves). ROUND 2: Knit without increasing; the new stitches are worked into the pattern. Work ROUNDS 1 and 2 a total of 9-10-12-13-17-19-23 times (18-20-24-26-34-38-46 rounds worked; A total of 19-22-24-25-27-28-28 increases in height on the sleeves and 9-10-12-13-17-19-23 increases in height on the body; 65-71-79-81-85-87-91 stitches on each sleeve and 97-103-111-117-127-135-147 stitches on the front and back pieces = 324-348-380-396-424-444-476 stitches. The sleeves measure approx. 14-16-17-18-19-20-20 cm; when the jumper is folded double at the shoulder, the piece measures approx. 20-22-24-25-26-27-28 cm from outermost on the shoulder and down the armhole. If the piece is shorter than this continue working without further increases to the correct length. The next round should be worked in colour Blue Haze while dividing for the body and sleeves. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES Knit the first 97-103-111-117-127-135-147 stitches (= front piece), place the next 65-71-79-81-85-87-91 stitches on a stitch holder for the sleeve, cast on 4-6-6-8-10-12-12 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), knit 97-103-111-117-127-135-147 stitches (= back piece), place the next 65-71-79-81-85-87-91 stitches on a stitch holder for the sleeve, cast on 4-6-6-8-10-12-12 stitches (mid-under the sleeve). The body and sleeves are finished separately. BODY: = 202-218-234-250-274-294-318 stitches. Insert 1 marker in the middle of the 4-6-6-8-10-12-12 cast-on stitches under one sleeve. Work to the marker; the round now begins here. Continue A.1 in the round until the piece measures 43-45-47-48-50-52-54 cm from the cast-on edge mid-back. Continue with colour Blue Haze until the piece measures 53-55-57-59-60-62-64 cm from the cast-on edge mid-back. Change to circular needle size 3 mm. Work rib (knit 1 and purl 1). AT THE SAME TIME increase 30-34-38-44-46-50-56 stitches evenly on the first round – read INCREASE TIP-3 = 232-252-272-294-320-344-374 stitches. When the rib measures 5-5-5-5-6-6-6 cm, cast off with rib. The jumper measures approx. 58-60-62-64-66-68-70 cm from mid-back and 60-62-64-66-68-70-72 cm from the shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 65-71-79-81-85-87-91 sleeve-stitches from one stitch holder onto circular needle size 4 mm and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 4-6-6-8-10-12-12 cast-on stitches under the sleeve – read SLEEVE TIP = 69-77-85-89-95-99-103 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the 4-6-6-8-10-12-12 new stitches under the sleeve. The round starts by the marker-thread. Continue A.1 in the round. AT THE SAME TIME, when the sleeve measures 1 cm from the division, decrease mid-under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP, as follows: Decrease 2 stitches every 7-4-3-2½-2-2-2 cm 6-9-12-13-15-16-17 times (NOTE: The pattern finishes before all the decreases are finished – see below = 57-59-61-63-65-67-69 stitches. Continue A.1 until the sleeve measures 28-28-29-29-30-30-30 cm from the division, then continue with colour Blue Haze until the sleeve measures 42-40-39-38-37-36-36 cm from the division. Change to double pointed needles size 3 mm. Work rib (knit 1 and purl 1), AT THE SAME TIME increase 5-5-7-7-7-7-7 stitches evenly on the first round -remember INCREASE TIP-3 = 62-64-68-70-72-74-76 stitches. When the rib measures 5-5-5-5-6-6-6 cm, cast off with rib. The sleeve measures approx. 47-45-44-43-43-42-42 cm from the division and 61-61-61-61-62-62-62 cm from the knitted-up row on the shoulder. NECK: Use circular needle size 3 mm and colour Blue Haze. Start from the right side mid-back and knit up 104-104-106-108-116-118-120 stitches inside 1 stitch around the neckline.
