------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- SIMPLE ITALIAN CAST-ON: With this method, half the number of stitches are cast on then doubled on the first row. 2 rows are worked back and forth before continuing in the round. Using 2 needles size 4 mm held together, cast on 53-54-55-57-59-62-64 stitches. Remove one needle and continue with circular needle size 2.5 mm, increasing the stitch count as follows: ROW 1 (turn = wrong side): * Purl 1, pick up a stitch from the working-strand by taking the right needle in front, under and behind the piece, up in front of the strand and pull the needle with the strand to the front of the piece (1 new stitch on the right needle) *, work from *-* until there is 1 stitch left, purl 1 = 105-107-109-113-117-123-127 stitches. ROW 2 (turn = right side): * Knit 1, purl 1 (= picked-up strand) *, work from *-* until there is 1 stitch left, work 2 stitches in the last stitch as follows: knit 1 through the front stitch-loop, purl 1 through the back stitch-loop = 106-108-110-114-118-124-128 stitches. ROUND 3 (do not turn, continue in the round from the right side): Knit above knit and purl above purl. Continue the neck as described in the text. INCREASE TIP-1: To work out how to increase evenly, count the total number of stitches on the needle (e.g., 106 stitches) and divide by the number of increases to be made (e.g., 20) = 5.3. In this example, increase by making 1 yarn over after approx. each 5th stitch. On the next round work the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. INCREASE TIP-2: When increasing evenly on the first round of rib, it is neater to increase in the stitches that will subsequently be purled, so the knitted stitches continue from the stocking stitch. ELEVATION: To make the back of the neck slightly higher when working a round yoke, you can work an elevation as described here. Skip this section if you do not want an elevation. Start from the right side and knit to 11-11-12-12-13-13-14 stitches before the marker mid-front, turn - read KNITTING TIP-1, purl to 11-11-12-12-13-13-14 stitches before the marker on the other side. * Turn and knit to 13-13-13-14-14-16-16 stitches before the previous turn, turn and purl to 13-13-13-14-14-16-16 stitches before the previous turn on the other side *, work from *-* 2 more times (8 rows worked). Turn and knit to the beginning of the round (right back shoulder). Continue the yoke in the round as described in the text. KNITTING TIP-1: When working short rows, there will be a small hole after each turn. This hole can be closed by tightening the strand or using the technique German Short Rows as follows: Slip the first stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, take the strand over the right needle and tighten well from the back (2 loops on the needle). These loops are worked together on the next row. KNITTING TIP-2: To avoid the knitting tension becoming tight when working pattern, it is important that the strands at the back are not tight. Use a size larger needle when working pattern if this is necessary. PATTERN: See diagram A.1. Choose diagram for your size. The pattern is worked in stocking stitch. SLEEVE TIP: When knitting up stitches under the sleeve, you can be left with a small hole in the transition between the stitches on the body and sleeve. This hole can be closed by picking up the strand between 2 stitches and working this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 4 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 4 (marker-thread sits in the middle of these 4 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The neck and yoke are worked in the round with circular needle, top down and from the right back shoulder, increasing for the round yoke. When the yoke is finished, it is divided for the body and sleeves and the body continued in the round, while the sleeves wait. The sleeves are worked top down, in the round. NECK: Cast on 106-108-110-114-118-124-128 stitches with circular needle size 2.5 mm and colour Beige DROPS Lima; or work ITALIAN CAST-ON – read explanation above. Work rib in the round (knit 1 and purl 1) for 3-3-3-4-4-4-4 cm. The round begins on the right back shoulder. Without working the stitches, insert 1 marker after the first 35-36-37-38-39-41-43 stitches (approx. mid-front). The piece is now measured from here. YOKE: Change to circular needle size 4 mm. Knit 1 round and increase 20-20-22-24-26-30-30 stitches evenly spaced – read INCREASE TIP-1 = 126-128-132-138-144-154-158 stitches. You can now work an ELEVATION at the back – read explanation above. When the elevation is finished, continue with the yoke as described below. If you do not want an elevation, continue with the yoke. Work stocking stitch in the round. Remember to maintain the knitting tension. When the yoke measures 3-3-3-3½-4-4½-4½ cm from the marker, increase 26-32-32-34-36-38-38 stitches evenly spaced – remember INCREASE TIP-1 = 152-160-164-172-180-192-196 stitches. When the yoke measures 4-5-5-6-7-8-8 cm from the marker mid-front, work PATTERN A.1 in the round – read explanation above, read KNITTING TIP-2. On each round marked with an arrow in A.1, increase as follows – remember INCREASE TIP-1: Arrow-1: Increase 32-32-36-36-40-44-44 stitches evenly spaced = 184-192-200-208-220-236-240 stitches. Arrow-2: Increase 28-28-32-32-36-36-40 stitches evenly spaced = 212-220-232-240-256-272-280 stitches. Arrow-3: Increase 36-40-44-44-48-48-52 stitches evenly spaced = 248-260-276-284-304-320-332 stitches. Arrow-4: Increase 20-24-28-32-36-40-40 stitches evenly spaced = 268-284-304-316-340-360-372 stitches. Arrow-5: Increase 14-22-20-26-26-30-30 stitches evenly spaced = 282-306-324-342-366-390-402 stitches. Arrow-6: Increase 14-14-20-22-18-22-26 stitches evenly spaced = 296-320-344-364-384-412-428 stitches. When A.1 is finished, the yoke measures approx. 19-20-20-21-24-25-25 cm from the marker mid-front. Continue with colour Beige to finished length. Work until the yoke measures 20-21-23-24-26-27-29 cm from the marker. Now divide for the body and sleeves. DIVIDE FOR BODY AND SLEEVES Place the first 58-62-68-72-74-76-76 stitches on a stitch holder for the sleeve, cast on 10-12-14-16-18-20-24 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), knit 90-98-104-110-118-130-138 stitches (front piece), place the next 58-62-68-72-74-76-76 stitches on a stitch holder for the sleeve, cast on 10-12-14-16-18-20-24 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), knit the last 90-98-104-110-118-130-138 stitches (= back piece). The body and sleeves are finished separately. BODY: = 200-220-236-252-272-300-324 stitches. Insert 1 marker in the middle of the 10-12-14-16-18-20-24 stitches cast on under one sleeve. Work to the marker. The round now begins here. Continue stocking stitch in the round until the piece measures 51-53-55-57-58-59-61 cm from the marker mid-front. Change to circular needle size 2.5 mm. Work rib (knit 1 and purl 1), AT THE SAME TIME increase 38-40-44-48-56-60-66 stitches evenly on the first round – read INCREASE TIP-2 = 238-260-280-300-328-360-390 stitches. When the rib measures 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 cm, cast off with rib or work Italian cast-off. The jumper measures approx. 55-57-59-61-63-64-66 cm from the marker mid-front and 60-62-64-66-68-70-72 cm from the shoulder. SLEEVES: Place the 58-62-68-72-74-76-76 sleeve-stitches from one stitch holder onto circular needle size 4 mm and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 10-12-14-16-18-20-24 cast-on stitches under the sleeve – read SLEEVE TIP = 68-74-82-88-92-96-100 stitches. Insert a marker-thread in the middle of the 10-12-14-16-18-20-24 new stitches under the sleeve. The round starts by the marker-thread. Work stocking stitch in the round. AT THE SAME TIME, when the sleeve measures 1 cm from the division, decrease mid-under the sleeve – read DECREASE TIP as follows: Decrease 2 stitches every 8-8-4-3-3-2½-2½ cm 4-5-9-11-13-14-14 times = 60-64-64-66-66-68-72 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 48-47-46-46-43-44-42 cm from the division. Change to double pointed needles size 2.5 mm. Work rib (knit 1 and purl 1), AT THE SAME TIME increase 12 stitches evenly on the first round in all sizes – remember INCREASE TIP-2 = 72-76-76-78-78-80-84 stitches. When the rib measures 4-4-4-4-5-5-5 cm, cast off with rib or work Italian cast-off. The sleeve measures approx. 52-51-50-50-48-49-47 cm from the division. |
