I need clarification on the diagrams, the pattern references A. 1, but there is more options and when you knit the diagram, the pattern doesnt match the number of stitches and they do not match the photo of the vest

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- INCREASE TIP-1: INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS LEFT – from RIGHT SIDE: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the row below, pick up the strand from the front and knit through the stitch-loop that lies on the back of the needle. INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE RIGHT- from RIGHT SIDE: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the row below, pick up the strand from the back and knit through the stitch-loop that lies on the front of the needle. INCREASE TIP-2: INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE RIGHT- from WRONG SIDE: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the row below, pick up the strand from the back and purl through the stitch-loop that lies on the front of the needle. INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS LEFT – from WRONG SIDE: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the row below, pick up the strand from the front and purl through the stitch-loop that lies on the back of the needle. GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows, from both the right and wrong side. 1 ridge in height = knit 2 rows. GARTER STITCH (worked in the round): Alternately knit 1 round and purl 1 round. 1 ridge vertically = 2 rounds. PATTERN: See diagram A.1. The diagram shows the pattern from the right side. INCREASE TIP-3: When increasing evenly on the first round of rib, it is important to increase in the stitches that will subsequently be purled, so the knitted stitches continue neatly from the stocking stitch. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- VEST – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. Start by casting on stitches for the back of the neck. The back piece is then worked back and forth, top down, increasing on each side to the correct stitch count and shoulder-width, giving slightly diagonal shoulders. Continue working down to the armholes. The back piece waits while the front piece is worked. The front piece is started in 2 sections, knitting up stitches along 1 back shoulder, working downwards and increasing for the neckline. This is repeated on the other shoulder. The 2 front sections are joined when the neckline is finished and worked as far as the armholes. Pattern is worked only on the front piece. The front and back pieces are joined on the same circular needle and the body worked in the round. Stitches are knitted up around the neckline and the neck is worked in the round to finish. If there is a «0» in your chosen size, skip the information and go straight to the next instruction. BACK PIECE: The piece is worked back and forth. Cast on 25-25-25-27-27-29-29 stitches with circular needle size 4 mm and DROPS Karisma. ROW 1 (wrong side): Purl. ROW 2 (right side): Read INCREASE TIP-1. Knit 3, increase 1 stitch towards the left, knit until there are 3 stitches left on the row, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 3. ROW 3 (wrong side): Read INCREASE TIP-2. Purl 3, increase 1 stitch towards the right, purl until there are 3 stitches left on the row, increase 1 stitch towards the left, purl 3. AFTER ROW 3: Work ROWS 2 and 3 a total of 5-6-7-7-8-9-10 times (10-12-14-14-16-18-20 rows worked). After the last increase there are 45-49-53-55-59-65-69 stitches. Insert 1 marker outermost on one side; the piece is now measured from here! Work stocking stitch with 4 GARTER STITCHES on each side – read explanation above. Remember to maintain the knitting tension and work until the piece measures 6-7-7-8-9-10-10 cm from the marker and down the armhole. Now increase for the armholes. INCREASE FOR ARMHOLES: ROW 1 (right side): Remember INCREASE TIP-1. Knit 5, increase 1 stitch towards the left, knit until there are 5 stitches left on the row, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 5. ROW 2 (wrong side): Knit 4, purl until there are 4 stitches left, knit 4. Work ROWS 1 and 2 a total of 5-5-5-6-6-6-6 times (10-10-12-12-12-12-12 rows worked) = 55-59-63-67-71-77-81 stitches. Continue working as before without further increases, until the piece measures 10-11-11-12-13-14-14 cm, from the marker down the armhole, finishing after a row from the wrong side. Cut the strand and place the stitches on a stitch holder. Now work the left front piece along the left back shoulder as follows. LEFT FRONT PIECE: Find the left back shoulder as follows: Lay the back piece flat, right side up, with the stitch holder/thread towards you; left side of piece = left shoulder. Start from the right side by the neck on the left back shoulder and knit up 1 stitch in each row worked, inside the outermost stitch as far as the armhole = 10-12-14-14-16-18-20 stitches. All measurements on the front piece are taken from this knitted-up row. Work the first row from the wrong side as follows: Knit 4, purl 6-8-10-10-12-14-16. Then continue as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Knit. ROW 2 (wrong side): Knit 4, purl to end of row. Work ROWS 1 and 2 until the piece measures 6-6-7-7-8-8-9 cm from the knitted-up row. Now increase for the neckline as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Knit. ROW 2 (wrong side): Knit 4, purl to end of row, cast on 1-1-1-1-1-2-2 stitches. ROW 3 (right side): Purl 1-1-1-0-0-0-0, knit to end of row. ROW 4 (wrong side): Knit 4, purl until there is 1-1-1-0-0-0-0 stitch left, knit 1-1-1-0-0-0-0, cast on 1-1-1-2-2-2-2 stitches. ROW 5 (right side): Purl 2, knit to end of row. ROW 6 (wrong side): Knit 4, purl until there are 2 stitches left, knit 2, cast on 3 stitches. ROW 7 (right side): Knit 3, purl, 2, knit to end of row. ROW 8 (wrong side): Knit 4, purl until there are 5 stitches left, knit 2, purl 3 and cast on 3 stitches = 18-20-22-23-25-28-30 stitches. The neckline increases are finished. The piece measures approx. 9-9-10-10-11-11-12 cm from the knitted-up row. Approx. 2 cm of the neck-depth will lie on the back piece. Cut the strand and place the stitches on a stitch holder. Now work the right front piece along the right back shoulder as follows. RIGHT FRONT PIECE: Start from the right side by the armhole on the right back shoulder and knit up 1 stitch in each row worked, inside the outermost stitch as far as the neck = 10-12-14-14-16-18-20 stitches. All measurements on the front piece are taken from this knitted-up row. Work the first row from the wrong side as follows: Purl 6-8-10-10-12-14-16, knit 4. Continue as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Knit. ROW 2 (wrong side): Purl until there are 4 stitches left, knit 4. Work ROWS 1 and 2 until the piece measures 6-6-7-7-8-8-9 cm from the knitted-up row. Now increase for the neckline as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Knit to end of row and cast on 1-1-1-1-1-2-2 stitches. ROW 2 (wrong side): Knit 1-1-1-0-0-0-0, purl until there are 4 stitches left, knit 4. ROW 3 (right side): Knit until there is 1-1-1-0-0-0-0 stitch left, purl 1-1-1-0-0-0-0, cast on 1-1-1-2-2-2-2 stitches. ROW 4 (wrong side): Knit 2, purl until there are 4 stitches left, knit 4. ROW 5 (right side): Knit until there are 2 stitches left, purl 2, cast on 3 stitches. ROW 6 (wrong side): Purl 3, knit 2, purl until there are 4 stitches left, knit 4. ROW 7 (right side): Knit until there are 5 stitches left, purl 2, knit 3, cast on 3 stitches. ROW 8 (wrong side): Purl 6, knit 2, purl until there are 4 stitches left, knit 4 = 18-20-22-23-25-28-30 stitches (next row from the right side). Do not cut the strand. The 2 front pieces are now joined. FRONT PIECE (right and left front piece joined): From the right side: Work the 18-20-22-23-25-28-30 stitches on the right front piece as before, cast on 13 stitches for the neckline, work the 18-20-22-23-25-28-30 stitches on the left front piece as before = 49-53-57-59-63-69-73 stitches. From the wrong side: Work 4 garter stitches, purl 6-8-10-11-13-16-18, knit 2, purl 6, knit 2, purl 9, knit 2, purl 6, knit 2, purl 6-8-10-11-13-16-18 and 4 garter stitches. Continue with stocking stitch, 4 garter stitches on each side and PATTERN – read explanation above, working A.1 across the middle 29 stitches. Work until the piece measures 14-15-17-18-19-20-22 cm from the knitted-up row. Work ROWS 1 and 2 a total of 5-5-5-6-6-6-6 times (10-10-12-12-12-12-12 rows worked) = 59-63-67-71-75-81-85 stitches. Continue working as before without further increases, until the piece measures 18-19-21-22-23-24-26 cm, finishing after a row from the wrong side. The front and back pieces are now joined for the body. BODY: Work the 59-63-67-71-75-81-85 stitches on the front piece as before, cast on 12-12-13-13-13-13-13 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), work the first 51-55-59-63-67-73-77 stitches on the back piece, insert 1 marker here (the beginning of the round), knit the last 4 stitches on the back piece, cast on 12-12-13-13-13-13-13 stitches (mid-under the sleeve) = 138-146-156-164-172-184-192 stitches. Cut the strand and begin at the marker, before the last garter stitches on the back piece (this is so the garter stitches continue neatly below the armhole). Work as follows in the round for 2 cm: 20-20-21-21-21-21-21 GARTER STITCHES – see explanation above, work the next 51-55-59-63-67-73-77 stitches as before (= front piece), 20-20-21-21-21-21-21 garter stitches and knit 47-51-55-59-63-69-73 (= back piece). Continue stocking stitch and A.1 (i.e., do not continue the garter stitches in the sides), until the piece measures 29-30-33-36-36-40-46 cm from the cast-on edge mid-back. Change to circular needle size 3 mm. Work rib (knit 1 and purl 1), AT THE SAME TIME increase 24-26-26-26-28-34-36 stitches evenly on the first round (do not increase across A.1) – read INCREASE TIP-3 = 162-172-182-190-200-218-228 stitches. When the rib measures 3-3-3-3-4-4-4 cm, cast off with knit above knit and purl above purl. The vest measures approx. 32-33-36-39-40-44-50 cm from mid-back and 34-35-38-41-42-46-52 cm from top of shoulder. NECK: Use circular needle size 3 mm- Start from the right side on one shoulder-line on the back piece and knit up 74-74-76-80-84-88-92 stitches around the neckline inside 1 stitch; the stitch count should be divisible by 2. Work rib in the round (knit 1 and purl 1) for 2½-2½-2½-3-3-3-3 cm. Cast off with rib. |
