I am very confused about where to place the markers and where to increase after the ribbing. Are the raglan stitches 2 stitches? If you could explain to me how many markers and where to place them, that would be helpful. I have been knitting for years, and this is, by far, the most confusing pattern I have read! You somehow made something as simple as a raglan extremely complicated! It would do you good to revise it!
07.12.2025 - 00:29DROPS Design answered:
Hi Ashton, There are 4 markers (for the raglan lines, which are inserted as described for your size). Each raglan-line then consists of the markers + 1 knitted stitch on each side, and the increases for raglan are before and after the 2 knitted stitches. Hope this helps. Regards, Drops Team.

---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- RAGLAN: Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over, on next round knit yarns over as explained below: BEFORE RAGLAN STITCHES: Slip stitch off left needle and put it back on left needle but the opposite way (insert left needle in from behind when slipping it back on needle). Knit yarn overs in front loop of stitches to avoid holes. Then work the new stitches in stocking stitch. AFTER RAGLAN STITCHES: Knit yarn overs in back loop of stitches to avoid holes. Then work the new stitches in stocking stitch. SLEEVE TIP: When picking up stitches mid under sleeve, there will be a small hole in the transition between stitches on body and sleeves. The holes can be closed by picking up the strand between two stitches - work this strand twisted together with the first stitch between body and sleeve so that the holes closes. DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of marker thread as follows: Work until 3 stitches remain before marker thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker thread is between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked (= 2 stitches decreased). ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: In this pattern needles of different length have been used, begin with fitting length for number of stitches and switch as needed. Work neck edge and yoke in the round on circular needle from right shoulder back, and work top down. When yoke is done, divide piece for body and sleeves. Work body downwards in the round on circular needle while putting the sleeves aside. Then work sleeves downwards in the round on needle. If 0 stitches is given for the chosen size, it means that you skip the information and jump to next information. NECK EDGE: Cast on 136-136-144-144-152-160 stitches on circular needle size 3.5 mm with DROPS Safran or DROPS Baby Merino. Switch to circular needle size 2.5 mm (cast on on a larger needle to get an elastic cast-on edge). Work rib in the round as follows: Knit 1, * purl 2, knit 2 *, work from *-* until 3 stitches remain on round, finish with purl 2 and knit 1. Work until piece measures 3-3-3-3½-3½-3½ cm. Beginning of round is at right shoulder at the back. Insert 1 marker in piece after the first 44-44-46-46-48-50 stitches on round (= approx. mid front), measures piece from this marker. YOKE: Insert 4 marker threads in piece without working the stitches, insert marker threads between 2 stitches, and these 2 stitches are called raglan stitches. Insert 1st marker thread at beginning of round, count 20 stitches (= sleeve), insert 2nd marker thread before next stitch, count 48-48-52-52-56-60 stitches (= front piece), insert 3rd marker thread before next stitch, count 20 stitches (= sleeve), insert 4th marker thread before next stitch, 48-48-52-52-56-60 stitches remain after last marker thread (= back piece). Switch to circular needle size 3.5 mm. Continue in the round with stocking stitch and increase for RAGLAN on each side of the raglan stitches - read explanation above. Increase for raglan every other round 23-25-29-33-34-35 times in total = 320-336-376-408-424-440 stitches (= 8 stitches increased on every increase round). Remember to follow the knitting tension! Increases for sleeve are now done, but continue to increase for raglan on front piece and back piece on every other round 3-5-3-4-7-9 more times = 332-356-388-424-452-476 stitches on needle (= 4 stitches increased on every increase round). Work without increasing until piece measures 19-20-22-24-26-28 cm from marker after neck edge. Now divide yoke for body and sleeves. DIVIDING FOR BODY AND SLEEVES: AT THE SAME TIME as next round is worked divide yoke for body and sleeves as follows: Slip the first 66-70-78-86-88-90 stitches on a thread for sleeve, cast on 10-12-14-16-18-22 new stitches on needle (= in the side mid under sleeve), work 100-108-116-126-138-148 stitches as before (= front piece), slip the next 66-70-78-86-88-90 stitches on a thread for sleeve, cast on 10-12-14-16-18-22 new stitches on needle (= in the side mid under sleeve) and work the last 100-108-116-126-138-148 stitches as before (= back piece). Finish body and sleeves separately. BODY: = 220-240-260-284-312-340 stitches. Insert 1 marker in one side of piece (= in the middle of the 10-12-14-16-18-22 stitches that were cast on under sleeve). Work until marker, round begins here and work in the round. Work stocking stitch in the round until piece measures 40-42-44-46-48-50 cm from marker mid front. Switch to circular needles size 2.5 mm, work rib (= knit 2/purl 2) while AT THE SAME TIME increasing 64-68-72-80-88-96 stitches evenly on 1st round = 284-308-332-364-400-436 stitches. When rib measures 4 cm, cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl. Jumper measures 44-46-48-50-52-54 cm from marker mid front and approx. 48-50-52-54-56-58 cm from the top of shoulder. SLEEVES: Slip 66-70-78-86-88-90 sleeve stitches from one thread on to circular needle size 3.5 mm and pick in addition up 1 stitch in each of the 10-12-14-16-18-22 stitches cast on under sleeve - read SLEEVE TIP = 76-82-92-102-106-112 stitches. Insert 1 marker thread in the middle of the 10-12-14-16-18-22 new stitches under sleeve - round begins here. Work in stocking stitch in the round on needle - AT THE SAME TIME when sleeve measures 2-2-2-2-3-4 cm from division, decrease mid under sleeve – read DECREASE TIP and decrease as follows: Decrease 2 stitches every 2½-2½-2-2-2-0 cm 5-5-5-5-3-1 times in total = 66-72-82-92-100-110 stitches. Work until sleeve measures 14-14-12-11-9-8 cm from division. Switch to double pointed needles size 2.5 mm and work rib (= knit 2/purl 2) while AT THE SAME TIME increasing 18-20-22-24-28-30 stitches evenly on 1st round = 84-92-104-116-128-140 stitches. When rib measures 4 cm, cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl. Sleeve measures approx. 18-18-16-15-13-12 cm from division. |
